Actually not anymore. With the V6T Hybrids, the Batteries pack enough energy to start the engine like any normal car, as seen a couple of years ago in spain, when Charles Leclerc shut off the engine and restarted it
@@rafaelh.reynoso4594 yeah to reduce wear on components and dont waste energy from the fully loaded battery. But still they are able to start without. Sometimes they also start it with the internal Motor.
I think that it was not the starter energy supply that was the problem, but the physical temperature of pistons and cylinders ensuring that their size is correct for operation at high temperature (meaning that normal engines are designed to be able to run at oil temperatures from around -20C to +170C, while the hardcore racing engines are meant to run from ~+70C to +250C, and that's why an F1 engine must have it's lubrication system heated up and cycled until it's hot enough, as otherwise the engine would seize.
The pointer was pointing at a portable power supply unit. Not a motor. The motor was attatched to the "pole," which is more of a driveshaft or crank key.

fairly certain never. only makes sense of the car is or was a road car and F1 cars since the beginning have been scratch built for the track. Race cars use a button.
I’ve heard that the engine is made to such tight clearances that it’s effectively seized when cold which is why you must warm everything up before starting.
I like how the steering wheel shown up close isn’t the same as the steering wheel held while at speed, helped me realize that the beautiful sound was of the v8 era (as compared to the whine of the current gen, nothing sounds better than the v10s tho). Noticed the skinny wing and realized they always use older cars for these stunts.
They heat up the oil and fluids first because the tolerances are too tight inside the cylinders when cold. This is why they can reliability rev to 15,000 rpm (up to 18,000/19,000 back in the day)
They still use this today, but it's also possible for the driver to start the engine using the electric motor from the hybrid system. Only thing is, you can't coldstart this thing because tolerances are to tight within the engine, cold starting an F1 engine means end of engine.
The whole engine needs to beup to operating temp before engine is started. That's because all the components are made of lightest possible materials, and pistons have a different thermal expansion rate to that of the block. When engine is cold, the pistons are literally seized inside the cylinder. Only once it's all up to operating temp has the engine block expanded enough to release the pistons and reached the optimum clearances. THAT is when they try to start the sucker up.
What I found impressive is that you cannot even rotate the engine when it’s at room temperature because of the tight tolerance of the parts everything must be up to temperature before even considering to turn it over!
Because an F1 car is driven hard from start to finish it doesn't have time to warm up naturally like your normal car, also there are parts which would seize quickly without warming up the oil because it's high temperature oil that is very thick at low temperatures.
And that is the v8's the hybrid V6's they have been using since 2014 are way more complex to start and to monitor, thats why team bring old cars to events and for videos, that v8 can be run from a single computer, the new v6's need a whole server and many people monitoring it at all times

Dude's mistaken the battery of the starter for its motor.
The motor is the blocky bit on the technicians side of the "pole" for anyone wondering.
So like starting a go kart. Crank the engine. Then push the ignition button.
"Step starter what are you doing"
Now I understand how big of a deal it is to keep the car on after a crash.
It is for old Formula 1 cars. New cars have hybrid unit, that can start up an engine
So the "electric pole" is the starter and the "electric motor" is the battery for the starter.
Because an F1 car is driven hard from start to finish it doesn't have time to warm up naturally like your normal car, also there are parts which would seize quickly without warming up the oil because it's high temperature oil that is very thick at low temperatures.
