I finally just put a Kethek deck together using the secret commander idea you dropped a while back; took me so long to find the ‘commander’ to build around but I’m so happy with Dream Devourer. It’s a really neat card because even if it’s removed the deck still functions perfectly fine itself - theft is the main theme because I’m using Kethek’s ability to sacrifice my opponents stolen creatures

I built Yurlok as a ramp commander to play a battle cruiser deck and I basically ignore the mana burn part.

I love your Yurlok idea!! I had a deck with him at the helm focused on mana burn. It was fun but whem you play against a powerful deck i just make them win with double mana and that staff... So i love the un/tap theme, I'll try it!!
    Thank you!

I've been playing Yurlok in paper and online since he was released. Most lists I saw went all in on group slug effects. I think the untapping synergies are a lot better to build around. Cards like Glissa Sunseeker & various mana dorks suit this strategy well. I enjoy cards like Xantcha, Sleeper Agent & Capricopian as a means of providing convient mana dumps for other players too

i LOVE your idea on Yurlock, i did fall in love with tap untap decks with my skeleton ship all retro frame untap deck, where i play many tappers with cool abilities and i do have some synergy with the -1-1 counters but it ain’t the center of the deck, the center of the deck are those dimir colors tappers that counter spells by tapping, exchange players life totals, draw cards etc
i just built a Feldon all retro frame after that and i might do a Yurlock now because of the color combination that adds the green to 2 colors i already know well in this theme 🙏🏼

One thing I like about the intro music to EDH Deckbuilding videos is that nice and comfy pause where I have time to take a drink of coffee or a bite of food, and get my mind ready to absorb the information.
Love the Shabraz Humans and the secret commander stuff.

Little disclaimer about Yurlok. That commander has always carried the misconception of being played around mana doublers that seem good in theory, but in practice that is the biggest trap you can play because that add nothing to Yurlok while at the same time you are doubling opponent resouces that rarely will burn them for 1 damage at most. Some can say that with 2 or 3 doublers you can start burning opponents more easily, but at that point I can assure you with that much mana the game is already over. The only good mana doubler is mana reflection because only you get the effect and you are the one who decide when you give 6 mana to others with Yurlok.
The untap theme has always been the best way to play that commander because in that way its you who decide the best moment to give mana to others, and at the same time the commander is a really good mana rock that can be untapped for more mana. You can even play on a budget some act of treason like effects to steal opponent creatures or untap yurlok multiple times in the same turn.

Love the Lagrella suggestions! I've had her in my sights as an eventual build ever since I drew her from my New Capenna prerelease pack, but procrastinated on making it a reality because I'm unsure whether complicated blink-juggling would really be fun. But the effect of the cards you suggested has renewed my interest! They are also just really good counterplay against people cheating in creatures through reanimation, for example. Definitely looking forward to hosing Defense of the Heart!

With yurlock I go the opposite direction. Your commander ramps from 4 to 6 so it enables battlecruiser. Not the most interesting but effective

I have put together a Kethek deck list which only has 3-4 nonlegendary creatures and the rest are legendaries, so every time I sacrifice a dude I am grabbing one third or fourth of my combo. But my combo revolves around sacrificing creatures to draw a ton of cards and make a ton of treasures so if my commander sticks around, great, if it doesn’t, oh well deck functions without it once the combo is assembled. Between games you can even switch the non legend cards to adapt the combo a bit to your pod’s meta.

I had taken Demo’s idea back last year on Kethek, I built it with dockside, bowmasters, and dauthi voidwalker, and I used like marionette and mirkwood bats etc and i liked it but games felt repetitive. But both engineer and welder were on my list! It just starts to feel repetitive. I think I am gonna rebuild it with LEGENDS, and hunt the very few nonlegends. We will see! Rakdos is a super fun color pair and kethek is very opportunistic commander

    • @quinnburton9593

Yurlok is the commander for my Jund Spellslinger list, could easily be swapped out for Gilanra/Vial Smasher. The only problem I see with the untap strategy is your opponents firing off removal once the mana pools start getting too big. Totally valid btw its just in my experience my opponents usually have instants to use.
Ruhan I havent built but I've had the idea of putting all the non-legendary copy/legend rule doesnt matter effects to have mutiple Ruhans that I have to roll dice to figure out who theyre attacking.

If you view Yurlock as a Cherry on top of a Hate Sunday, he becomes a lot more interesting. I personally built a Turbo Fog Hate Deck with him with Board Wipes, Mana Barbs, Skullcrack, and other such Lovely stuff. That deck actually even if it draws fire can survive a decent amount unless some douchebag is playing Stax.

Came out 3 minutes ago and im only the 4th like dang Im never first. Also Demo what do you think about this... if im playing with a group and a green player plays mass artifact destruction I then start playing mass land destruction because its not fair they can land ramp and my non green or white deck has mana rocks then they blow them up leaving me no recourse to play so i say if green runs mass artifact destruction then the same is fair in games with them to use mass land destruction. Thoughts sir?
