Its optional, the reason why you can change lanes without the side-view mirror is because objects are closer than they appear. Meaning if you didn't have enough space to make the lane change you would see the car in your blindspot. However it is helpful to check both rear-view miror, and side-view mirror.

That was the reason that Student failed road test

Your driving style is not recommended compared to the UK method. Our system before making a change is mirror, signal then manoeuvre. Also hands at 10 to 2 and refrain from talking !.
I am worried that when I look in my blind spot I'm not looking at the road and I will crash, so I reduce my speed to 35 in a 50 zone to prevent that from happening. Do you have any suggestions. My G2 test is in 4 days and I failed my practice test.

I failed my g2 test I was going 57 in a 40 by mistake … heavy foot problems.
