AEW Fight Forever was easily the biggest disappointment I've had in gaming in recent memory. Those N64 wrestling games are some of my most cherished memories, and even outside of Fight Forever just being a bare game ... it just doesn't feel right when you play it compared to No Mercy or even WCW vs. nWo World Tour. I had a Best Buy coupon and got Fight Forever for $20 on the week it released and I still felt like I paid too much.
That's a wild take lol. No Mercy and Fight Forever are extremely similar gameplay wise. So much so, that it got me and my friends back into couch multiplayer sessions like in the old days with Day of Reckoning and No Mercy. World Tour is more barebones than Fight Forever, and has way less moves and grapples overall.
@vapor-cake That's exactly the point I was getting across though. Fight Forever is No Mercy's "spiritual successor" mainly in terms of core gameplay, NOT content or feature-wise. I absolutely agree with you that No Mercy has superior amounts of match types and "extra content". But there's context that matters here. No Mercy had the major luxury of being built on a foundation of 4 previous full priced $70 retail AKI releases. In other words, the devs ALREADY had a working gameplay engine to start development with, so dev time could be spent working on tons of features and extra content. This is exactly why AKI's first few game releases were WAY more bare bones; because they had to spent major dev time creating a solid wrestling engine FIRST above everything else (AKI games didn't even have a CAW Suite or major story mode until years later in its more recent games). By comparison, Fight Forever is a brand new modern engine and the first game in a possible new franchise. Major dev time and funding was spent creating the core gameplay foundation FIRST above everything else... hence the game having way less dev time available for making tons of match types and a super huge CAW Suite (this was especially challenging due to 2 years of this dev time being in the middle of the covid pandemic). Fight Forever has a fantastic gameplay flow and foundation, and that's thanks to No Mercy's Lead Director (Mr. Geta San) being directly involved, collaborating with Yukes. And despite the game having very barebones match types and features on launch, the game's DLC support will continue to build on the game's rock solid foundation, for a long time.

Gave this a go after seeing your video. Is it just me or are the arenas and championships not yet fully replaced? Still seeing WWF textures in the menu.
Did you ever play AEW on the NES? Would like to see you do a video on that one. The ROM can be found online, as well as it being sold on cartridge from Pacnsac Games
@RGT85 I have a person question. Can you please tell me what was wrong with you awhile ago. You said something about your heart. Please respond if possible. I have questions.
Just some stupid wrestling promotion for a nepo-baby owner to play with his real life toys. No stories, no selling, no psychology, 500 belts, gymnastic routines. Don't worry you're not missing out on anything.
Next Gen or Retro, makes no difference. aew fight forever is STILL a poorly developed imitator of No Mercy. Hardly anyone is playing the aew game anymore as there are a ton of YT videos out there detailing the game's enormous drop in interest & popularity.
@@DragonHeart613 FF is easily the best wrestling engine since the AKI days. I get the feeling you didn't even play FF making the statements you just made lol. YT creators doing bandwagon hating has nothing to do with actual gameplay quality. The biggest issue FF has is its lack of extra "content" (match type variety, extensive CAW Suite). The core gameplay though is way, WAY better than any wrestling game of the past 15 years.
Twenty years on and still nothing can touch No Mercy, until of course Ultra Pro comes out later this year.
This comment is going to age like fine milk, isn’t it.
I've never heard of ultra pro...what is it?
No Mercy has been topped multiple times since its release. 3 times exactly.
Will ultra pro be on ps4?
@@lilpimp994 Wrong. No Mercy is still the best.
Fun fact: I’ve played No Mercy with Evil Uno on the n64 before.

Good to see Heath Slater make the game

Does anyone find it strange that they still call them the Blackpool combat club even though the main person from Blackpool left the group?

It’s a testament to just how good no mercy is that no game has come close to its greatness in more than 20 years.
How come there's not been a wrestling game as good since?

Did you check out WWF No Mercy 2.0, which works on real N64 hardware?
Are you serious? I’ve never heard of this before! 😮
Dose it work on the n64 everdrive?
Thank you for the way you pronounced QT Marshall 🔥🔥🔥
Incredible rom hack. Thanks for uploading this =D
Your dad got his vasectomy too late
Would u consider making a 2nd channel for ur wrestling content? Seems to be more and more common with the uploads
This looks amazing love the new moves!
No custom textures for suits just make it look like an old cart you got from a rental store where someone changed all the wrestlers appearances.
Hope you feel better soon

It gets weird when you think about how many current AEW wrestlers are originally in No Mercy.
