  • Liberia, a small country in West Africa, has long and deep ties to the United States. The country became infamous in recent years for a bloody civil war that all but destroyed it.
    Liberia was settled by freed American slaves, and now, as Worldfocus special correspondent Lynn Sherr and producer Megan Thompson report, Liberia is trying to shape an identity it can call its own.

    No. Live as an independent republic, which is the point of the flag, i.e., the Lone Star. Don't forget that the Lone Star stood as a beacon of hope to other African countries still living under colonial rule and apartheid.

      anger & rage how can you found a country that already had people (NATIVE AFRICANS) ?! History has taught many of you WRONGS without one single truth!! THE AMERICO WHO WERE EX-SLAVES CAME TO LIBERIA AND MADE SOME OF THE NATIVE SLAVES. Although THEY WERE BLACK BUT THEY HAD THE MINDS OF THEIR OPPRESSORS FROM THE UNITED STATES. NOW, YOU CAN TAKE THIS AND RETHINK ABOUT ALL THE RUBBISH YOU’VE BEEN TAUGHT.

    Perhaps. I'd be open to considering "updating" the flag, but I get nervous about changing our identity wholesale. Our problem is not our flag, it is our people who have been manipulated into thinking we cannot celebrate our differences. Moreover, neither me, you, or Obama was contemplated when the U.S. designed its flag, but we have a black president who stands proud under that same flag that oppressed our people. We can do the same under our flag, don't you think?

    mcnabj - Well put. I believe it would be in our own national interest to strongly promote (even force) a migration to Liberia.
    I already pay $80K per year in Federal income taxes, I'd gladly pay double that as long as I knew the additional $80K would be soley dedicated to the migration to Liberia program.
    Such a program would need to be privatized since the Federal Gov isn't very efficient. I'm sure that such an efficently run company could deport at least 500K criminals per year! Yeah!

I think personally if there was a mass migration of black Americans to Liberia, that could certainly be a win/win for both parties involved. Liberia already has the history with America and a new wave of black Americans could strengthen that. And then there could be no more talk of racism.

      You forgot who took African Americans from Africa in the first place. You forgot who saw Liberia as their last stronghold in Africa while Africa was pushing out the British and the French and the Spanish. And you forgot who was so fearful of losing Liberia that they funded...yes the United States FUNDED the coup that lead to the bloodiest civil war in West African history. You forgot that it was them that lead to this shit in the first place. Americo-Liberians wanted to cut ties with the United States, push them out, so the United States funded the coup and civil war of a deadly man that Liberia has still yet to recover from. So come at me again with that...it's because African Americans appeared. It's because to this day, white people can't keep their hands off Africa and out of Africa's business. They are still killing people, funding wars, and steal resources in and from Africa.

    • @IslenoGutierrez
      @IslenoGutierrez 7 лет назад +2

      LoliceMe Only the strong survive. It the rule of nature. That's what they get for trying to push the US out after the US put the African-Americans in Liberia in the first place. Africans sold their enemies to the slavers in colonial times, blame them. I hope you don't live in the US talking bad about the US like that.

    • @LoliceMe
      @LoliceMe 7 лет назад +6

      No, the wicked and the cruel and the murderous survived and profited off of this shit. If the US didn't take people from Africa in the first place, they wouldn't have had to send their descendants to Liberia. The US and all those Western European countries took people, they encouraged wars between tribes to get more people, and they took the people of even their allies because they didn't give a shit and they enslaved anybody they could get their hands on. Don't act like they didn't go in there an manipulated and created wars and situations that they could use to their advantage to rob Africa of its people and resources. That's why they can strut around being all pretty and "first world" because they took everything from everyone else. And I can talk bad about the US all I went. It was built on the backs of my ancestors and it still can't do right by black people. Everything we have we had to fight for, even the basic rights of being treated like a human being in this country. We had to fight for that and they did not give it willingly and many of them still don't want to give us even that.
      They had every right to try to push the US out. They were trying to be independent. Create their own nation, make their own allies and choices and trading agreements, and the US couldn't stand it.

    • @IslenoGutierrez
      @IslenoGutierrez 6 лет назад

      LIB Leopard712 Why fight the whites at all? Why can’t there be peace between all? I’m sure many white Americans would love to take a trip to Liberia for a vacation if it has a decent economy and ties to the USA.
      But glad it took an actual African to mention that African-Americans from the states have a victim mentality. They won’t see it coming from anybody else. Maybe a black African can make them see this.
