    Great review! I bought this pack about a month ago as my travel/work backpack. I travel a lot and work in a professional environment and am frequently around 'executive' types and this allows me to fly under the radar without standing out, yet be prepared and have what I need or may need. It is well laid out with lots of storage and yes, my laptop is well protected with padding running all the way down and underneath. Quality built, light, cool and comfortable. My fellow 'tactically minded' buddies thought it was just a regular backpack and had no idea it was 5.11 or somehow tactical in nature until I dug in and showed them. Great Pack!

    Too funny! I was NEVER aware that you had two channels Sootch! During the intro, I was like WOW THIS GUY LOOKS LIKE SOOTCH and then you started talking and I cracked up! Nice! I've come across this channel before years ago. I was looking for a covert bag and your video was the first to show up

    I have been using this bag every day for the last six months and love it. I carry it almost all the time through my daily travels and it has been very resilient. I ended up fitting a level III soft ballistic panel into the hydration compartment. It only added about a pound to the pack but it can then be used as an impromptu shield if SHTF happens.

    This has got to be on the list for best bags you have reviewed in my book. I love how 5.11 added the option for MOLLE attachment points. And the price is great as well! Great review!!

    I was excited about the Condor Elite Frontier bag you reviewed, and now I just saw this. As a student, an outdoors enthusiast, and a militia member, this is the perfect bag that would fit my outdoors, urban, and combat uses all in one bag! Wonderful review!

    I have the Asphalt/Black color combo. I use it for my everyday work bag. I love this thing. Going to add a 5.11 small insert panel to keep my pouches from all settling to the bottom. Be patient and you can find these on amazon for $103 and change. The 5.11 tag is very small and very hard to see unless close up.

    Excellent review Sootch. I own this pack and it is my favorite edc bag. I would just like to add that the secret compartment for your pistol is easy to miss if you don't know to look for it.

    They have a 2.0 version now with tuck-away logo. For yours, you could replace that ID panel with a blaze orange panel when hiking during hunting season or reflective panel when hiking in a group at night. CCW part can also house bear spray when hiking. The 2.0 has a outside laptop sleeve that could could also put fold up shelter material in.

    I've used that pack every day going on 3yrs now and it's a awesome bag. Carried 2 hand guns and tons of crap in it daily. Only wear has been the foam and covering has worn off on that top carry handle cuz I use it to hang it on a hook next to me every day which it actually has a tough strap under the padding so really its lost no function

    Nice video and bag but the bag it didn't work for me. I carried a Beretta Cheetah, 3 mags, a WAS slick carrier with 3A soft panels and the standard Flashlight (5.11 TMT A2), Multi Tool (Gerber MP600) and Folder (Gerber Rex Applegate) Combat Folder. A few items in the admin pouch and a jacket. Went back to my 5.11 Rush 12 and sold the COVRT18.

    Hey Sootch, I got a 5.11 rush backpack, great backpack I love it, but the zipper configuration on the compartment for the hydration pack just confuses me. The zippers leave everything open except for where they are, when they are top dead center, and you have to have both down on one side to have the pouch completely open. Why is that? The only thing I could think of is if you wanted to partially open it without having the top open, to vent it for the condensation that builds up around an item with cold liquid in it. Not a problem in anyway, just odd.

    I have the 5.11 rush 12 in the color black but I feel the molle all over it screams "tactical" so I like this covert18 bag because it's more discreet. However the green and tan colored covert18 still looks "tactical" to me because of the military inspired colors. I do prefer the green and tan colors for the wilderness but it doesn't blend in as well as the black one does in urban environments. The black color bag would be unsuitable for the wilderness because black does not camouflage well in the woods and the black bag gets hot in the sun . My dilemma is I want one bag that can be used for both urban and wilderness survival but I don't know if I should get the green and tan or the black color. Maybe I'm just thinking too hard Lol

    If your mission is to be a covert "grey man" then you should avoid using 5.11 or any other merchandise from the tactical gear manufacturers. By the same token I always get a chuckle from those wearing tactical clothing who believe they're operating in a covert, discreet manner in public. Aside from that, great review.

    • @austenbrennan2376
      @austenbrennan2376 9 лет назад +1

      ***** I might just be blind but I didn't see 5.11's logo on the pack. I agree that nothing with their logo should be used as a "gray man" option, but the only thing I can see is a little tab with "5.11" on it, which you can easily cut off because it's basically like one of those tags they used to put in t-shirts.

    • @JeremyHopper007
      @JeremyHopper007 9 лет назад +4

      Grey Wolf The logo is present on the front on this pack. Even with the logo tab removed, those "in the know" will still identify it as being associated with military, law enforcement or a potentially armed civilian.

    • @ShinobiHOG
      @ShinobiHOG 9 лет назад +2

      ***** yup. I bought this bag in 2012 and I'm not sure if "those in the know" spotted me. One can never know who "they" are but I knew I had a 5.11 bag and so I always felt eyes on me. It was probably more psychological but it still made me feel less "grey". Especially while I was traveling I was damn sure TSA knew what bag I was carrying.....

    • @TheTyrial86
      @TheTyrial86 9 лет назад +7

      Yu know this whole grey man thing is kinda dumb since the bad guys would be looking for anyone with supplies. Having a back pack would be dumb no matter what. And incase of martial law. Anyone with a bag would be searched depending on conditions. So lets be honest with ourselves.

    Sootch, you do the best pack and bag reviews around (not to mention great gun reviews) but calling out pack reviews and overviews especially here because you actually pack it with gear and show how the bag can be loaded out and used. Thats goes a LONG, LONG way to making a review more impactful and informative and enjoyable to watch.
    Too many RUclipsrs seem like they get a demo back from a vendor and just do a table top with it empty and say... "you can put this in here or this in this pouch and this in that pocket" while never practically demonstrating the bag at all. And then that's the end of their video which is a waste of time.
    You actually do it, you show the loadout to demonstrate visually what one can do with the bag and you show yourself wearing it and walking around and hiking and etc. That's really more than any other channel does to the degree that you do it and it's why I always watch all your bag reviews whether I'm actually interested in the bag going in or not.
    So I want to say thank you for taking the time and effort to make this type of content that is actually informative and useful and entertaining.
