Hi Everyone, the motor is a 425 nailhead, the torque is 465, the GS option for riviera did not offer a bigger engine only 2 x 4 bbl carb set up. What a beautiful car

@@loucostabile Hi Lou, I just picked up a 1963 Buick Lasabre 401 nailhead. The gentleman I bought it from is 88 years young, he parked it in 1979 with 28,458 original miles on it. It hasn't been registered since 1979. I also have a 1967 Riviera standard interior car. I love buicks
Last of the nailhead. I had a 66 Riviera and I definitely want another one. I love this 66 Riviera, same year I was born and the first car I ever driven.
Lou, Another outstanding survivor! Had no idea how little of these were made. " The Gentleman Muscle car " The GS always had a chrome air breather. Shawn
Hi Lou, what a gorgeous Buick! The one thing that impressed me (besides the awesome interior) was the full gauge package, including oil pressure, coolant temp, and ammeter. The 60s was the era of "idiot lights" where manufacturers replaced gauges with lights that illuminated just before your engine blew up due to low oil pressure or severe overheating!
The 1966 Riviera was not a one year only model like the salesman says! The platform used on the 66 was used all the way through the 1970 model. The only changes made were to the grill and tail-lights! The exterior and interior dimensions were identical, as were wheelbase and side profile.

I had one of these, same year, same color, GS model as well. Kept it for 26 years. This one is very nice with al of the power acessories. Sure brings back some memories!
One thing that I installed Lou was an 8 track tape player. This factory add on went under the dash just below the ash tray. It was a plug and play option. The unit under the glove box was the stereo detector. a little red light would go on when a stereo signal was detected. Next to the parking brake release lever was a pull/push switch for the four way flashers, an other plug and play add on made by Signal Stat. BTW, the clock in mine broke several times.
Up until 1966 Buick motor badging was the torque spec, this motor is actually a 425 cubic inch with 465 foot pounds of torque, although I always believed that a single 4 barrel motor was rated at 445 foot pounds and the optional 2- 4 barrel motor was rated at 465 foot pounds. Unless I'm mistaken, this car has the incorrect air cleaner tin badge, most 1966 cars with air conditioning had the 2-4 barrel setup installed at the dealer. It's a common mistake to mix up the cubic inch and the torque number for people not familiar with the way Buick badged their motors
I've owned 2 '66 engines in Rivieras (465 Wildcat) and both were single 4bbls, owned also a 445 in a '64 Wildcat Single 4bbl) and a '65 Riviera GS Sport coupe with a 401 with 2-4bbls. Owned a '67 Riviera with 430, and considered it of lesser quality than the older engines.
In 1966, all Riviera came with a 425. In '66 they were equipped with a Rochester Quadrajet rather than the Carter AFB or the Rochester 4GC. The GS was a dress up package as well as having some of the 65 Gran Sport's performance enhancements.

THE COLOR IS NOT QUITE A BURGUNDY, BUT WORKS WELL FOR THIS STYLE OF RIVIERA......AND YES, 465 WOULD BE THE TORQUE WHILE 425 WOULD BE THE C.I. DISPLACEMENT.
That's a sweet car my favorite Buick Riviera was the 1965 once you see it on the inside and out you will know why it's my favorite and it's a one year only car too
I learned to drive in a '66 Riv. However, it had a center console with an epic "horseshoe" shifter. If I'm not mistaken, the difference between the GS and the regular Riv was the 4:11 gears.

465 is the torque figure. That nailhead engine displaces 425 ci. 1966 was the last year of the nailhead. Buick brought out their new big block engines in 1967 in 400 ci and 430 ci versions with the 455 ci arriving in 1970. Those were the days!!
425,or 430 cid were what Buick used til 1970, then the 455cid came in regular trim, GS trim, & ofcourse 455 STAGE 1. 465 on the prior Motors were TORQUE #s. They moved those land yachts with EASE. Nice example, Lou.

Cruise control was not that rare on near luxury cars in 1966. A power passenger seat and automatic climate control were more rare. Also leather seat trim wasn't even offered on many near luxury vehicle. Chrysler 300, New Yorkers and Ford Thunderbird did offer leather in 66. Leather was routinely available on Imperials, Lincolns and Cadillacs (except Calais) in 1966.

Yes, don't remember, as it was quite some time ago.
The rarest feature on this car was passed by twice with no mention. That being factory cruise control.
It also had a roll-a-round odometer for 140 MPH. Also came with rear air shocks ad positrac differential.
My '65 Riviera had factory cruise control as well. It was on the dash and operated as a secondary gas pedal as well.
Cruise control was not that rare on near luxury cars in 1966.
