Buy guns and that's about it. Shame there wasn't any side missions, doors/more stores open or even continuing on after the story line has finished. You also lose all your things you got in the game at certain points with sucks. RTO41 you're right. I got the same feeling, I think the developers kinda wasted a little the great map they created. Did not exploit at all. Mafia 2 is not a sandbox as GTA series, but the environment and that nostalgic feeling is simply magnificent. Still you can walk around, look for wanted posters, fight people, accomplish hidden achievement, Easter eggs, movie references (there is a bunch), etc etc.. Ps: negative aspect about Mafia 2. Ocean and river Water is brilliantly designed and detailed. But you cannot even get inside. That's even worse than getting sunken and drown. Too sad.
The city is big, but there's no reason to explore it, maybe for the playboy pages, but other than that, the city is just multiple ways to get to the objectif.

Interactive map, you used to be able to sit on almost any surface, and in most chairs(which would've made the diners much less awkward as you stand there staring at the server) Harry's used to have a range, that one can assume could be used to freely shoot weapons without risk of police detection. You can see the remains of these all over, the buses still drive around, and even stop at bus stops, but cannot be ridden, the taxis still roam around, waiting to be hailed(you even use one in the first act of the game) and the subway even still has the entire route marked on your map, despite not ever being used.

theres a lot of proof actually, theres a few sites and forums where people found the left overs from all the cuts still left in the code, they found all of the things the OP said was cut, there was even a online multiplayer in it which was taken out, buyable properties a reputation system, side missions to do while free roaming like hitman jobs etc. and so much more. Sad really, this could have been one of the greatest games of all time.

As much as I enjoyed Mafia 2 he definitely got that open ended part wrong. Yeah theres a big map but you are almost always in a mission. There's barely any side missions and almost no activities to do. I loved the game but I would have been pretty mad if I bought it expecting to have a ton of post main story replay value. I know it's not an rpg but if you enter a place in the main story you should be able to at any time.

Its not totally an open world game because when you finish the chapters in the game, you'll no longer resume your career for free ride. If you want to go back to a previous chapter, the chapter you have finished after the selected chapter will be erased.
I dont know if is a glitch but when you rob a gun shop nothing happens, I mean the police doesnt do anything you can get out after you kill the owner (I suggest using a shotgun, is easier) and rob the cashier and nothing happens except the police AI goes to the store to see what happened

You forgot to say that there is possible to turn on simulation hsndling in options . So you can handle car like in real life. Drifting with old cars like insane
This was a great game..I cant say the same for Jimmys Vendetta or Joes Adventures...much harder and a lot less story. Im still going to finish then..shit..they were $3 each on steam one weekend.

I fucking loved this game. It is the greatest game that has ever been made in my opinion. 8 Years later and I still love it. 100/100.
Its not totally an open world game because when you finish the chapters in the game, you'll no longer resume your career for free ride. If you want to go back to a previous chapter, the chapter you have finished after the selected chapter will be erased.

I dont know if is a glitch but when you rob a gun shop nothing happens, I mean the police doesnt do anything you can get out after you kill the owner (I suggest using a shotgun, is easier) and rob the cashier and nothing happens except the police AI goes to the store to see what happened

You forgot to say that there is possible to turn on simulation hsndling in options . So you can handle car like in real life. Drifting with old cars like insane

This was a great game..I cant say the same for Jimmys Vendetta or Joes Adventures...much harder and a lot less story. Im still going to finish then..shit..they were $3 each on steam one weekend.
I loved this game until i beat it. Not because there was nothing to do, but because of how it ended, that shit was fucked up.
