    It would be kind of fun to take the yarn after it has been dip dyed and then sprinkle it with the opposite colour dye.

    I think its a fun technique to get skeins that can work together easily, maybe even with three or more colour or nuances

    The thought I had when seeing the thumbnail was to have two skeins of yarn with each end being a different color, and dip-dye them individually, flipping which color went first. It'd be an interesting variation of dip-dyeing into two different colors because the color spread would really vary depending on how quickly each color strikes!

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials

      This is a super interesting idea! It might be hard to swap directions mid flip logistically... but I'll think on it!

      @@ChemKnitsTutorials That's the reason for two skeins! Dip each one from different ends.

    You may have done this before; but I would love to see the difference, after first sprinkling the dye on the wet yarn, between dip-dying, steaming, and microwaving that yarn. Love the yarn mop you created! Thank you!

      This is an interesting idea! I don't microwave acid dyes since I would prefer to have a dedicated dyeing microwave. However, microwaving results tend to be very similar to steam setting in a steamer basket overall. (Obviously I cannot say for sure, but with other techniques I've done with food coloring it seems to be similar)

    I love all your videos, Rebecca, and have learned so much from you. And just recently I've been thinking about something new--dyeing buttons to use on the clothes I make. It's difficult to find just the right one. I am not sure what sorts of dyes to use on plastic/resin/nylon buttons but am investigating and would love to see your take on this!

    I was surprised by how little the blue spread compared to the pink. I'd definitely be interested to see you try this dip dyeing the skeins like normal. I also think it would be interesting to try it with the skeins sprinkled with multiple colors. Not just both colors on each skein, but multiple different colors on each skein. Like, yellow and blue on one skein, and pink and orange on the other.

    Another fascinating experiment! I'd like to see it repeated with a pair of complementary colors, to see how much of a muting effect each has on the other. Orange and blue, maybe?

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  Год назад

      I imagine they would both be a bit more muted if the colors didn't run completely. :D

      @@ChemKnitsTutorials Could you do the 2 skeins, one of each color of complimentary colors but soaking the skeins in acid and letting them sit for 20-30 minutes before dip dying them? Beautiful colors btw.

    How about this: sprinkle different dyes & citric acid in a dry pan, then use a damp skein to mop it up, steam set it and see what you get?

    What would happen if you had an undyed skein in the pot before you started the dip dye method with this technique? With the yarn mop of course.

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  Год назад +1

      This is an intereresting question! My hypothesis is that it might end up with a little bit of color on it (similar to the small amount of transfer between the two skeins)

  • @cindyrowits1536
    @cindyrowits1536 Год назад

    U, when you break violet, the red strikes first and the blue takes longer, therefore I would have expected the pink,with red in it (?) to not have spread so much and the blue would have been the one to spread?!

    • @cindyrowits1536
      @cindyrowits1536 Год назад

      *Uhm

    • @ChemKnitsTutorials
      @ChemKnitsTutorials  Год назад

      Not all reds strike faster than blues, and so the type of dye matters a lot. In my breaking violet videos, I'm using food coloring which while those pigments are acid dyes, they're different than the ones used in commercial acid dyes. It's sometimes hard for me to predict which colors stike faster and slower without having played with the color a lot.
      In general, a lot of pink, blue, and green acid dyes are more likely to spread than some other colors. but there are some pink (pink orchid specificially) that strikes incredibly fast, and some blues that go fast, too.
