Amazing game! This is what I use to run games with my family. I pull Traveller and Cthulhu adventures and adopt them to the SWN rules with a couple exceptions I’ve pulled from Traveller (ie stats are damaged instead of having health).
Yeah I've converted several modules from Traveller, like Death Station, Flatlined, I'm even thinking of running some version of Pirates of Drinax for my players. I play both but I personally like Stars better.
Thanks for the rundown. Getting ready to start running SWON myself and this was a good primer.
Good luck, I think it's one of the best sci-fi systems out there!
@@SMooreArtDesign It certainly reads like it is!
I’m always interested in learning about new systems. I’ve also wanted to start a Firefly style campaign.
There's a free pdf version of this in the links to look at. I've checked out the actual Firefly rpg too and I think this plays way better.
I love this game, the world creation guide is oustanding, the only problem is more inherent to the d20 system with leveling characters than to the game itself, I've playing in a year long campaign and while the character didn't become gods like with dnd, the challenge curve definitely slowed down to the point that there really wasn't much that could stop us.
Yeah, I love this game. There's so much that feels really good both playing and running it. Maybe we'll get a new edition with some balancing. I'm really looking forward to the cyberpunk game because it's supposed to be inherently bloody lol.
That is my only complaint as well. I’ve adopted some Traveller like rules and modifications to give the game some extra crunch.
@@MrWhybull I think that the best way would be to simply reroll your health dices every level without a constitution bonus, sorta like Whitehack does, if you roll over your current health then you increase it otherwise it stays the same, would be much more reasonable in my opinion.
@@SMooreArtDesign From what I understand, It will be fully compatible with stars (even because there is already a cyberpunk supplement for it) so we can steal all the rules😀
Yeah, day 1 backer here. I'm actually working on the book as well, I'm one of the illustrators!
Nice commentary. But there’s an entire chapter dedicated to “Space Magic.”
I forgot about that. I still feel like SWN is much better suited to something like The Expanse or Firefly campaign wise than something like Star Wars, but it's pretty modular, like you could darw on the new book Cities Without Number for cyberpunk flavor.
For people who know video games I like to compare it to Mass Effect
I think that's a good comparison, but throw in some postapocalyptic vibes!@@thorongil9
fyi, chat gpt knows the rules and can make stat blocks for GMs really well, i have been building my first campaign using Chat gpt and the only thing i have left to do really is mess with Sectors and factions.. then i will be done.
Yeah, I have my own "book" built in Notion so I can pull everything up at a glance. I've been using ChatGPT to write adventures too. It's an amazing tool!
