Nowadays he could download the ".pdf" from the internet, print it and have the whole book for himself. No need to terrorize a whole city with a nightmare-inducing fear gas.
I always thought Scarecrow was a very interesting villain, you really felt a lot of power coming from him because you knew his power was literally fear and all it brings.
'Is this a joke?' 'No, that's the other guy.' 'Other guy? What other guy? There's two of you?' 'Two of me? No, that's another other guy.' 'Another other guy? Can you stop talking in riddles?' 'Riddles? That's another other, other guy.' '... I'm confused now. Is this supposed to scare me or something?' 'Yes! Scare you! Finally, you get it. That's my thing!'
My favorite thing about the Scarecrow is that he's always trying to make his costume scarier. His first debut costume was like "ok the eyes are scary but this looks kinda silly" then his costume afterwards (the one seen here) is like "whoah haha that's more like it" then in The New Batman Adventures it's just like "whoah what the fuck is this allowed in a kid's show?"
Actually the costume hasn't changed at all. Scarecrow already used the fear toxin when he took out the letter to give to the man and what it does is amplify the brainwaves into making you see something horrifying.
@@ten-thousandbees8453 That's a nice hc but people see his second costume that way regardless of if they've been intoxicated. Hell we've seen him take the mask off.

Hey BTAS fans, you do realize that was Tim Curry voicing the scared goon in that scene, right? This, and the freaky mechanical clown in the BE A CLOWN episode are some of the few tracks left intact in the series with Tim Curry's voice. Between filming Pennywise for the original film version of IT, and voicing Captain Hook for Fox's PETER PAN AND THE PIRATES, you knew laryngitis would kick in eventually. I mean, 3 straight years of vocal work caught up with him. That's why his original Joker voice was eventually scrapped. 🇵🇷🇺🇸😉
I love the whole build up to this one scene in the entire episode. There's somthing eerie and suspenseful about the music, the settings, and the timing before the scarecrow's face is revealed.
Why I love Scarecrow ? Because he studies one of the most interesting subjects in psychology, "Fear" and his Fear Toxin is one of the most mysterious formula. Some say that his formula is BZ Gas, othesr say that it is a formula with Tea Tree Oil, Carbogen and Datura but still it is a mystery :)
"How many more bones will you crush? How many lives will you destroy in your pursuit of what you call justice? You are the product of everything you fear. Violence. Darkness. Helplessness. All that remains is for you to watch as I drag your beloved Gotham into oblivion."
Aloha732 Don't speak of John Noble as Scarecrow D: he talks to much and doesn't feel like the scarecrow we all love, instead it feels like he is just a generic revenge type villain :P
Anonymous Mystery John Noble is the best Scarecrow. And not liking his version just because you think he talks too much is pathetic. It's still the same Scarecrow character dumbass.
Xehanort10 What about the revenge thing... At least the past scarecrow had a decent motive, and that is my opinion, Scarecrow isn't a man of few words like Batman but he's not a man of hundreds...
Am I the only one who really loves this look and version of the scarecrow for the animated series? Sure the newer one was a lot more scarier and stuff, but I really like this one and his voice. :)
I just watched this episode last night. Everything about this show was absolutely amazing. As a kid it was the show I'd run home to watch after school now as an adult I watch cause it was actually great story telling much butter than most of the stuff on tv now
Dangnabit, the Animated Series had the BEST villain theme songs! My favourite was always the penguin's but this is a close second! They put so much work into it!
I first became acquainted with the Batman's world when I played the game Arkham Asylum, and ever since then the Scarecrow has become my absolute favourite Batman character. :) I guess it's mostly my love for Halloween and scary things (:D), but otherwise, he has a really intriguing and fascinating personality, based on psychological tactics rather than simply being a brutish criminal who likes to kill people (and he can still hold his own in a fight, I especially love when they portray him using a scythe). :) That's probably another thing, he's not really a criminal, he's more of a scientist, and I love his rather intellectual way of speaking. And while I know that the Scarecrow is supposed to look scary, I really just appreciate his every incarnation, and I really loved him in the animated series, because he looked quite adorable, and his voice actor was just amazing. :)
Anonymous Mystery I thought that he had great lines in Arkham Knight. They were not as good as his lines in Asylum or TAS or the Comics, but they were still awesome
the scarecrow always was my favorite character, the joker was good, hell he was perfect, but the scare crow goes right for the very nerve of fear itself. He just grasps it and plays with the human's fear like a puppet master, absolutely genius.
The Scarecrow has for a very long time, since I first saw his debut episode as a kid, my favorite villain. As there are many of Batman's foes who share something in common with him, the Scarecrow shares how Batman uses fear as a weapon.
I had no idea Tim Curry was in this specific episode until I saw his name in the credits under "Additional Voices". (He voices the hired thug in this clip--I NEVER would have guessed that was him.)
You know, i'm pretty sure there are a few black guys out there who instead reactively knocked him the fuck out as soon as he tried to scare them, we just don't get to hear about it.
Being a fear specialist, I'd guess Scarecrow would first work it out how to take the Fight out of the Fight or Flight response. I'd still like to see all the failed attempts though :)
Interestingly enough, fight or flight response is actually very interesting from a neurological standpoint. Especially relating to how animals react to stress. Think about it though, if you can create enough hyperarousal the target can actually be forced to either flee, or they will literally stop trying to get away from the sheer stress of the situation. You can tell the victim in the video isn't really attempting to run away, fear has made them feel too helpless to actually attempt to fight.
The Scarecrow mails the telegrams to his targets, so there's probably not much chance of him being socked in the face by them as the fear gas takes over.
You know, watching this, I just thought of something. Was he carrying that envelope every time he went to this bookie, or was he suddenly struck with the impulse to do it just now while collecting his big payday? I mean, the latter is possible, given the mention of this being a rather large payout, but just imagine Mr. Crane carrying that, and then being disappointed that he didn't get to use it yet, going home, bouyed of course by his money, but still, somewhat down because he brought a toy along and didn't get to play with it. Just a thought.
Well the thing with Scarecrow is he uses the toxins and psychoactive stuff first to subdue Batman. The scarecrow isn't a martial artist so he can't physically beat up Batman.
Welllllllllllll.... Actually, he HAS developed his own fighting style... And it DOES include some Crane Style martial arts... The irony of that is not lost on me |D
Scarecrow: I know your fear. Me: IS IT SNAKE CLOWNS?!? Scarecrow: Nope, it's me. YOU ARE FREAkING SCARED OF ME!!!!! Me: NUH UH YOU AY HOLE! IT'S SNAKECLOWNS!!!!!!!!!! EDIT TAIM: I like how he has a voice of a normal guy with that disguise face thing on, but he has his normal voice when he has his normal face showing. Also, before I am done editing, I LOVE his look. It's better than all the other batman animated series looks!
Me, cause while everyone else was watching cartoons I was watching Hostile, Shutter Island, Friday the 13th, Halloween, and etc. I was only 5 or 6 years old too
Infinitely better than the Batman Begins Scarecrow. No offence to the guy that played him but you simply can't beat this performance. Thanks Henry for bringing a character to life and making him even more awesome
It seems low-key but it is such a clever and easy way to get money. It doesn't really fit the other supervillains MO and the regular Mafia/gangster villains wouldn't be able to come up with a fear toxin on their own.Maybe Roland Daggett could but making Scarecrow the schemer fit the best.
Why fighting you? It's a true statement. I really love the Joker but Scarecrow is so unique, besides, his alter ego is Jonathan Crane, such beautiful name.
the villains in this cartoon had a much better aspect and role than the rest of the batman cartoons and movies in the 2000s and today, they were so much sinister with a classic appearance, i loved that!
Scarecrow had three different designs in this show. Also, why did his face change in that last panel? I didn't see him use his toxin. Finally, what episode is this?
The reason I love Scarecrow is because he isn't insane or crazy. In specific versions that is. He is just evil. He is completely aware of everything he is doing but does not care. He does it because he likes it. But he isn't insane.
One of the reasons why Batman's Rogues gallery is my favorite because it's full of people like the Scarecrow where most of them are just normal people, they just found an edge over all the other psychopaths.
Interestingly enough, the adrenal gland is what controls excitement and fear, so Scarecrow changing the athletes’ excitement to fear does seem plausible if the chemicals he introduced to their bodies were able to alter the body’s adrenaline levels. Maybe this chemical overstimulates the adrenal gland the moment it starts producing adrenaline along with a bit of hallucinogenic effects to make the athletes act more in his favor. This could cause even the slightest bit of fear be exacerbated similar to a house filled with gas exploding from a small spark.
I love how he whacked him in the face with the fear-toxin laced envelope, since the guy was wearing gloves and wouldn't have touched the toxin otherwise. Good attention to detail.

Rest in Peace Henry Polic II. Thank you for a memorable Scarecrow for our generation.
Isn’t datura devil’s snare?
@@anjealousanaconda9692 devil's trumpets, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datura
@@CLAUD21212 fascinating. I guess it makes sense why it would be a component of the fear toxin with the hallucinations and all
@@anjealousanaconda9692 Doctor Jonathan Crane aka Doctor Scarecrow would be proud of the guy who came out with the recipe of the fear toxin :)
Scarecrow was at his peak when he almost managed to persuade Batman quit just by having a therapy session with him
"How many more bones will you crush?
Aloha732 "Do you understand Gotham? You have no savior. No more hope. No more Batman."
Xehanort10 "At the end of fear, oblivion..."
"I am the Master of Fear!!! And I use it to rig sports games."
Am I the only one who really loves this look and version of the scarecrow for the animated series? Sure the newer one was a lot more scarier and stuff, but I really like this one and his voice. :)
He sounded a LOT like Rene Auberjonois. I swear there were times I expected him to end his sentences with "HMPH", or "Quark!"
Scarecrow: Lost ? You have that bewildered look ! But your sort always does !
HA !
No line from the show has stuck with me more than, "It's the fear of victory and the agony of the Scarecrow!"
"Good evening child." ruclips.net/video/zHPJcN0CvnY/видео.html
I just watched this episode last night. Everything about this show was absolutely amazing. As a kid it was the show I'd run home to watch after school now as an adult I watch cause it was actually great story telling much butter than most of the stuff on tv now
You love Scarecrow because he is Scarecrow?
...
Yes, that's a good reason to love Scarecrow. ^-^
Any reason is a good reason
Dangnabit, the Animated Series had the BEST villain theme songs! My favourite was always the penguin's but this is a close second! They put so much work into it!
1:30
Well, looks like I'm not going to bed for another 24 hours
God, look at that animation. It looks better than most DC movies that come out nowadays. And this was just a TV show. Really impressive work.
Scarecrow has the best lines in anything he's in
geekiousmaximus except arkham knight...
Anonymous Mystery He had great lines in Arkham Knight.
Xehanort10 Compare those lines to asylum or TAS... Compare them to Comics...
Anonymous Mystery I thought that he had great lines in Arkham Knight. They were not as good as his lines in Asylum or TAS or the Comics, but they were still awesome
geekiousmaximus Ok, i respect that... It's your opinion... No opinion has less worth than the other :D
Really, how can be someone scary and cute at the same time? :D Scarecrow is the best. :D
shadowsteed15 1:30 you call that cute?
@@deoxys3869 yeah...you dont?
Yall are better than me. I'm a grown man, and I still gotta say that fear induced face is terrifying.
the scarecrow always was my favorite character, the joker was good, hell he was perfect, but the scare crow goes right for the very nerve of fear itself.
I love his voice. so professional yet scary at the same time.
I remember watching this as a kid. I loved this episode and still do.
You know, i'm pretty sure there are a few black guys out there who instead reactively knocked him the fuck out as soon as he tried to scare them, we just don't get to hear about it.
batmans wear a black costume, does that count?
Scarecrow can actually fight in the comics. Especially if he has his scythe.
The Scarecrow mails the telegrams to his targets, so there's probably not much chance of him being socked in the face by them as the fear gas takes over.
I can't take him seriously. He looks like a plushie.
The Arkham games might change your perception. In Asylum, he looks like Freddy Krueger's cousin, and in Knight, looks more terrifying than ever.
+Lexington Deville84 More like a pussy without boss fighting.
***** That's the whole point of Scarecrow. He isn't exactly ripped like Bane for the love of Christ.
Lexington Deville84 No but neither is Joker but he manages to beat Batman with few tricks. Scarecrow can't without fear gas.
***** Scarecrow is more of the psychological warfare style. He plays on people's fears.
That end face can give ANYBODY nightmares.
Michael Carrillo it already has (me) 😱
Scarecrow: when I'm in charge, everyday is Halloween.
While I enjoy the classic british voice. I actually much prefer the emotionless monotone voice Murphy uses in the Chris Nolan Batman series.
What are you even talking about, he's not using a British voice.
What? Yes he is -_-
DanteDMCry Being well spoken doesn't make someone British.
..........What? It's not got to do with his vocabulary, it's his accent. -_-
DanteDMCry He doesn't have an accent. He's well spoken and articulate, that's all.
1:30 What a Nightmare Face.
Did you know that the original Scarecrow was just some guy in a scarecrow costume wielding a gun.
So basically arkham Knight scarecrow
WORSHIP ME FOOLS, WORSHIP ME
Oh ... hello child 😂
I love the small details, like the fear toxin is in the dust at the letter he gave the man
That had to be the calmest, reasonable thug in fiction.
I wonder what would happen if someone reacts badly to the fear toxin. Like, someone who fight when they're scared or something.
Creepy! I remember seeing Scarecrow in Batman: Bloodstorm and he looked really creepy, right before Batman decapitated him.
This design and the voice in this style is my favorite. Simply awesome!
Thug: You can't rig an atheletic sport
Scarcrow: Hold my Envelope
Ha ha
The music in the begin remind "Death becomes her"
"Oh ye little brain"
Chip and Dale rescue rangers references.
No. It's a ye of little faith wordplay
@Eric S Why do you call them "shitty writers"?
00:53 notice the fear toxin laced envelope ✉ You can see it shake off
I love how this displays his cunning in such a realistic manner.
Scarecrow has always been one of my favorite villains for many reasons. He's just such an interesting character.
The ending though :O his face. Good grief.
"You know, for kids!"-Nostalgia Critic
+Reapermaskhybrid Look at this! LOOK AT THIS!!! THEY SHOWED THIS TO KIDS!!!
+Ace JonTron
gonna try to overcome my fear of his face at the end so wish me luck
+ tierra Ennis nope couldn't do it that face its terrifying
Well the thing with Scarecrow is he uses the toxins and psychoactive stuff first to subdue Batman. The scarecrow isn't a martial artist so he can't physically beat up Batman.
Welllllllllllll.... Actually, he HAS developed his own fighting style... And it DOES include some Crane Style martial arts...
The irony of that is not lost on me |D
I wouldn't be surprised
After all, the Lego Batman game gave him a nice Biplane.
mickiblay1 That's not irony, Alanis!
mickiblay1 He calls it Violent Dancing. Or at least Wikipedia does.
With the way it looks in Lego Batman, I'm not surprised :P
I always loved this design and the later seasons. They just looked incredible with brilliant voice acting!
Mooks should never mess with supervillains, no matter how scrawny they are.

hahahaha, nightmare fuel. 0_0^
(but seriously, who did that not give nightmares to as a kid?)
You didn’t really point out why you love Scarecrow.
This scene is more than enough to understand

Now THIS is a supervillain I can RESPECT!
Such an unappreciated villain feel like he’s always out shown by the joker
bruh his face just inflates to the screen like ganondorf from the cdi series
You dare enter this comment section?
Some random: Batman TAS is for kids
Me: 1:29 Nah it really isn't.
I never really liked the original Scarecrow, I will always prefer the redesign
I think most people do. It's so much more haunting
There was something amazingly petty about a super villian rigging bets.
Cartoons nowadays don't have the dialogs, animation, story script, and also the suspenseful background music from the old times.
Scarecrow is better than the joker FIGHT ME
Why fighting you? It's a true statement
Why fighting you? It's a true statement. I really love the Joker but Scarecrow is so unique, besides, his alter ego is Jonathan Crane, such beautiful name.
So this is how LeBron James gets to the finals so often...
Never really been a fan of this design, I preferred the corpse one
Yo
And to think, he has such control over these hallucinations
the villains in this cartoon had a much better aspect and role than the rest of the batman cartoons and movies in the 2000s and today, they were so much sinister with a classic appearance, i loved that!
Scarecrow had three different designs in this show.
Also, why did his face change in that last panel? I didn't see him use his toxin.
Finally, what episode is this?
And who is to say the dust on the bill wasn't the toxin?
Yeah, the toxin was all over the letter. thats why he bats it into his face.
His season 4 design is the best.
The episode I believe is Fear of Victory.
The episode is "Fear of Victory". Scarecrow's fear dust was all over the letter he gave to the henchman; it is explained in the episode.
1:30 the effects of crystal meth!
Scarecrow is the best Batman villain in my eyes. Fear is one of the most powerful things one can face, and he has worked to master it
This show is a master piece like wow I own the full show volumes 1-4 on dvd and there amazing best animated show ever literally
The reason I love Scarecrow is because he isn't insane or crazy. In specific versions that is. He is just evil. He is completely aware of everything he is doing but does not care. He does it because he likes it. But he isn't insane.
that's why he's my favorite batman villain
I wish this scarecrow outfit looked like this one when he very first appared on the animated series
One of the reasons why Batman's Rogues gallery is my favorite because it's full of people like the Scarecrow where most of them are just normal people, they just found an edge over all the other psychopaths.
The only time I didn't recognize Combs' voice.
