  • Your lawn mower with Briggs & Stratton engine does not run and the coil has a high resistance? Before buying a new one check this first! The coil or ignition may be fine, but the spark plug cap may have corrosion inside. Pull the spark plug cap from the cable (if possible) and measure from the connector.

My Briggs & Stratton boot (looks like yours) measures 4.7k! It looks like there's a resistor builtin there.

Could be corrosion on the connector inside the boot. Funny thing is that when I installed the metal shielding it wouldn't start again, only without the metal parts. Looks like there is a crack in my boot so the spark escapes.

Great catch. The Chinese knockoff coil is made w\low grade copper and wouldn't last long. The original you put back on will outlast the motor.
Nikola Tesla would be smiling knowing we still use his coils and will continue to do so.

Extreme high voltage to create a spark for a second.step up transformer. No spark it could be the magnito especially if left in wet as ours was....rust!
