Hi Izzo, I do like what you put out, for the most part lol, you won't like me as I do follow an older version of the 'twc' system. I try to learn something from everyone, that's just the way I look at things and I do enjoy your content. I started training twc in 91 from someone who learned in Australia, not from video like most. My Sifu taught different from what you see today, ie he moved into an attack not away. I was not taught to cheun sao like that. We did train the pak Sao from wrist to elbow but mostly elbow. In the case of the cheun sao, if you hit the wrist the threading arm moved in to the elbow and up to attack throat or eyes. If you look at old video footage compared to today things have changed, not necessarily for the better. Thanks for sharing, great content!

At least this part just looks like arm fighting and doesn’t disrupt him (his center) at all; inviting him to do some more offense. Take his spine(center, core) at the first touch and then keep the pressure on as you move through him.

I've seen TWC referred to as "long arm Wing Chun". This video is a good example of that. The central strategy is not forward pressure and to "take his space." The central strategy is to move to the blind side. That change is strategy has far-reaching consequences!

I think what a lot of people on all sides of that argument don't really see is that you move really REALLY fast. So size, strength, and speed, and everything else really does matter and factor in. Think about it Dominick a 7 or 8 year old child is not taking on a grown ass 215 pound man. From what I understand Wing Chun was designed for women in a literal farm out in a field to defend themself. I think that's why on Discovery Military channel Wing Chun type Kung Fu fighting was among the the most powerful weapons ?

  • @assoverteakettle

I don't agree with the statement that any martial art, tactic, or technique can work depending on (circumstances). Yes, if you want to talk "possibility" then anything is possible. I could do a no touch ki knockout on the corpse from Weekend at Bernies. Ok, that's an exaggeration but as someone who is 185 lbs, sure, I could impose my will on someone who is 90 lbs, meek, and has never trained in their lives.
However when we talk pragmatically about practical martial arts, or self defence, then we are talking about "probability" rather than possibility. We talk about techniques that have low risk to high payoff ratio. That is to say, that it is a simple but effective move that works in most circumstances. A panacea move which is easy to learn and easy to apply under many circumstances.
Sure, you can spend your lifetime attempting to master a complex technique but that is in pursuit of mastering a style or technique but there is no guarantee it will work. There is a difference between mastering a martial arts style or technique and gaining competence for combat sport, or self defence. The two can be interrelated but also mutually exclusive. Example: A wushu athlete will spend over a decade mastering a competition form. We can say that they have "mastered" the form or technique for their specific objectives. But they couldn't fight themselves out of a paper bag. Similar with a black belt master in something esoteric like iaido (ceremonial art of drawing the katana). They could be a master in every detail of movements from exact placement of their hands and feet, to controlled draw of the sword. They are a master in iadio. But let's be frank, they would get killed in duel with an Olympic fencer using real sabers, or against a kendo master wielding a real katana.
Mastering a martial art style is about learning a system but most elite competitive fighters may know a range of techniques but they will only use a handful that work for them most of the time: their A-game. Therefore, I would disagree that ANY martial art, tactic, or technique can work.
At the same time, I will concede that with enough practice that very highly complex movement can work. it's not "bullshido". BJJ has a whole bunch of techniques - like berimbolos, and spinning 360 degree armbar from lasso guard, to flying armbars - which would be absolutely "bullshido" due to their overcomplexity and also that it favors people with specific lanky, flexible body types. But they do work because they are drilled and practiced against a resisting opponent. So, yes, then I would agree that you can increase the payoff to risk ratio by honing a move or tactic that requires complex movements.
And this is the dilemma of wing chun (specifically talking about the ubiquitous Hong Kong style wing chun or ving chun that is part of the Ip Man family tree). It is far too complex in its movement, and taught far too literally and pedantically to adhere to certain principles (centerline, bridging, gates) according to the forms: tan sao must be placed exactly like this or that and used only to block an outside, punch, etc.
No, I contend that if wing chun had ever been truly an organic and effective fighting style that was purported to be easy to learn and highly effective then it probably looked a lot different. I would guess it probably looked more similar to muay Thai. Believe it or not muay Thai shares a lot of strategy as wing chun. MT (and its parent muay Boran) is traditionally a close range system where you bang in the pocket. It uses clinching to control aggressive attacks (trapping is clinching) including controlling the arms. It has a defensive long guard which functions like man sao to bridge with the opponent to either push them away, or measure the distance so you can counterattack.

4:27 Ya, looks like a KARATE “Shooto” technique. He’s splitting the difference between our CHIN SAO BUI GEE which is just a simple way of switching hands to continue attacking, and a KARATE/KALI destruction. It would work if his second hand was on the eyes NOT STRAIGHT UP. When he started though, before he switched sides. He did it wrong. I saw several suspect things on his site already. He seems knowledgeable, but he makes crucial fundamental errors.

that's not traditional wingchun... william cheung isn't traditionnal wingchun...
you are saying the traditional song of wingchun,
keep center line, always go forward, pak in the middle of forearm, follow the retreating arm, get contact with finger tip and boom strike in at tha motion with all you step punching into with your rear leg, stay soft as long as possible and contract a fajing only for a brief moment of impact.

  • @JKDVIPER
    @JKDVIPER 2 года назад

9:50 ⚠️See that “Chin Sao?” Ok, picture long n right into the outside eye. Force in a poke. At contact it just slices in to that closest eye ball. So he’d PAK or FOOK back handed (back left) let’s say. Right front hand is a sword right through any grab or punch. A direct blade in the eye. Slides right over the forearm like a FOOK but goes all the way. It’s even possible to field the energy, by receiving with the back hand (a swiping motion coming towards our body) collecting his energy, while the front right hand uses his own left as a bridge. 💥💯

lol so his wingchun is all sight based and reactive... no chisao since he avoid contact!
all what make wing hcun wingchun is discarded...
you pak in the middle of the forearm to control and by control it means sensing and being aware by touch of every little change in motion to allow adaptation...
touch is faster than the eyes, that's the ONLY reason to train chisao it's to train yourself to feel the footwork and body shift with the contact rather your eyes.
then wingchun is about mimimal movement and minimal extention to not compromise yourself, telegraph as less possible.
    that chin sao is bs...
why that an not go with tan?!!
and assoon as your tan get contact your pack is free to go forward.
it's even easier to turn a tan into a lap or a jut or a pack or a bong...
that technic isn't wc, it look like muaythai.

that's another dude predending to do wingchun but is just doing boxing with fancy arm technics... they don'T understand the tactical root of what make wing chun... wingchun.
it's so strange, wingchun is hourglass stance full facing stance, agressive forward minimal direct line focusing style... it's not karate, it's not kickboxing, there is a reason for the basic stance.
