I want to emphasize that I am incredibly thankful for all the new friends that my sorority has brought into my life this past year, but also not fail to remind everyone that the greek system is inherently exclusive, and with that holds MANY many problems. However, these are my reflections and tips for those who may be considering greek life or who have recently rushed and are trying to navigate the crazy and often times frustratingly superficial and political world of college greek life. I hope the people this video reaches are able to take my experiences and learn from them, or at least apply some parts to their personal situations to give them more of a perspective on what their greek house involvement means to them and to others.

Hi Joelle, thank you so much for this video! I'm applying to Dartmouth this year and I really hope I get in. I'm from China and my parents were really concerned about the Greek life (due to the drinking reputation) and they rubbed off on me, but I watched your video and I feel like it helped so much. I think your video was super informative on the Greek Life at Dartmouth but also like, life as a whole haha :)

hahah ILY GIRL thank you!! and "rushing" is like the process of choosing/ getting chosen for a greek house! that's so interesting it's cool to hear about australian vs american university life haha

I was just wondering- Im leaning more against rushing any sororities, so do you think I would still fit in at dart? I’m not really a party girl, I am terrified of joining a sorority that hazes, and I just don’t really feel like Greek life is for me. You always mention how Greek life is a very big part of Dartmouth, and my dad and uncle were both in a fraternity at Dartmouth, so do you still think I would fit in ok there? My friends describe me as an extroverted introvert, if that helps at all.
don't be so quick to categorize yourself!! I'd say greek life is for anyone who wants it. Hazing/ being mean isn't a thing in sororities here, they're all really supportive and all new member activities are 10000% optional. If you want to get to know some girls and think you'd like the people in greek life, then rush! if you're happy without it, then don't!

I'm in kkg! and Yes my friends are in all different sororities and a handful of them didn't rush!
Have you heard of Kappa Phi? It is a National Christian club that thrives on inclusivity that is structured like a sorority. I know that Dartmouth doesn’t have one but it can be started there. If you’re interested you can check out kappaphi.org and/or contact me. I’m on the board for a chapter in California. Everything that you have mentioned that are your concerns and stuff scream Kappa Phi!
is greek life the major way to make friends? or can you still make good friends through clubs and classes?
ehh it's definitely a place to make friends, but most people make a ton of friends outside of greek life through classes, other extracurriculars, etc.
Joelle thank you!!! it’s kinda amazing to see how friendly dartmouth students are because i’ve been commenting on dartmouth vids and all the creators have been so prompt in replying and so helpful! it’s such an amazing community that i hope to be a part of soon! hopefully i’ll get in!!
