Once DJs make a name for themselves in a certain type of dance music, it's easy to forget that their tastes span way beyond the genre that they are known for.
For our new series, Alter Ego, we decided to give DJs the opportunity to express the side of their musicality that you rarely see: their Alter Ego.
To do this we teamed up with Jägermeister to take a select few DJs to the top of The Orbit, one of London's most unique buildings with panoramic views of the city.
We were honoured that the one and only Jackmaster rose to the challenge. The Numbers label boss is generally known as one of the most talented and versatile DJs there is, and has built a reputation for his eclectic sets that span the genres.
But it's rare you'll get to see him play a whole set of UK Funky, and that's what he delivered for his Alter Ego set. An impeccable selection, seamlessly mixed by a DJ that's top of his game. This one is not to be missed.

What is UK Funky? Bass-heavy house music from the UK made popular in the late 00s by Funkystepz, Crazy Cousins, Ill Blu, Roska. Instrumental in getting a generation of dubstep and grime kids into house music.

Electronic Is The Only Genre, What Most People Forgotten Is Not How Many Genres But Styles That Make Up The Genre. So UK Funky Is A New Style To The Genre That Was Introduce Into The UK In The Early 2000s. I Never Knew That Till Now Since I'm Listening It First Hand, I Got To Say It's Not Bad At All.

Paul you're wrong I'm afraid and so is the other chap. UK Funky House is a subgenre of Soulful House which originally comes from the United States. The genre basically started in the mid 00's but became known in the late 00's. Early UK Funky all sounded like Soulful House until Apple and other DJ's/Producers came with a signature sound. By mixing Soca, Electro/Tribal House and Afro Beat.

Besides, it's Mixmag party, I guess there's a lot of their employees dancing there. They may be middle class, but they help artists find success and they love underground music scenes in general, that's why they work in Mixmag.
