Romania 0-0 England (1985) WCQ

England move a step closer to qualifying for the 1986 World Cup as they hang on for a 0-0 draw away to Romania in May 1985. Although Bryan Robson strikes the bar early on, England rarely look like winning with the Romanians looking fairly dangerous. England go on to qualify along with Northern Ireland, as Romania narrowly miss out.

I remember after this qualifying group ended Romania finished third and were eliminated and laughably tried to make out England and N.Ireland had arranged a draw at Wembley so both countries would quilify at Romanias expense. Jennings the Irish keeper was excellent in their final game against England and Romania lost to the Irish twice, so theyd no one to blame but themselves for not making it to Mexico.
