This past December, I was on a cruise that stopped in Honolulu for a day. My first time back in 40 years. I used the opportunity to visit my old neighborhood (Makiki) and the UH/Manoa campus, where I spent so much of my time as a student (BA 1980, MLS 1981). Wish I’d found this video and your others before my (quickly arranged) trip. Nostalgia.
This video technically isn't for me since I've long since been enrolled and planned on going to UH for years, but I love seeing vids of people on the campus and getting a better look at it! I like both of your personalities, you seem really fun and down to earth and it was fun seeing you introduce the campus and the pros and cons of the school! Consider me a new subscriber!
Thank you so much for your kind feedback!! Can’t wait to share more videos with you! Let us know if you ever have a specific video about UH or grad school in mind that you’d like to see from us!
@@alexusandmichi I did watch the UH Tour video but it would be cool to learn more about the SLS major and the building! And if there are ever things you both can share about student research opportunities that would be lovely as well! Thanks for making these fun and informative videos!
I was a haole from the mainland, Washington . I graduated from U of H - Manoa , BS Hort-Tech, in 1979 and loved every minute I was there. If you are thinking about attending...Just Do It!
Thanks for watching!! It definitely is expensive.. in tuition if an undergrad and cost of living in general 😬 we did a video on how much we spend in a month living in Hawaii, if that seems interesting to you!
Thank you Alexus and Michi for your great videos. Is Honolulu a bike-friendly city? It would be very helpful if you could also create a comparative video discussing the advantages and disadvantages of residing in downtown areas such as Waikiki versus other parts of the city, or if you have any advice I'd appreciate it. I am an incoming PhD student and I am still unsure about this!
That’s a great idea, we‘ll make a video on it! Honolulu is not the most bike-friendly city but people do ride their bikes (& the Biki bikes). There are bike lanes on some big streets at least! Waikiki is maybe one of the sketchier neighborhoods to ride your bike in but it’s possible!
If your research has anything to do with a region in Asia, you could also apply for housing at the East West Center, which is on campus and has very discounted housing for “student affiliates“. Let us know if you have other questions!
We have a few tips on it in our How to Apply to Grad School video! Let us know if you have more detailed questions, though, and we can help you, too! ☺️ We will hopefully have a video only about sop writing out soon!
@@alexusandmichi Thank you I don’t know what points we have specifically add to our sop. I am intend to applied for microbiology According to your video you also under the marine biology background. I go through your videos and got some points. Hope if you add about your common general idea about sop It may be help ful for me further application process.
That’s so awesome, congratulations!! UH is in Mānoa valley, which is pretty good for living with roommates and it has bus routes to campus if you won’t have a car! Biking is also good to do in Mānoa! You can also try to find roommates in Waikiki or Kaimuki! Let us know if you have any specific cost of living questions but we have a video in how much we spend in a month if you want to check it out!
Minority should be looked in context. Japanese are minority in USA. Japanese at the same time are majority in Japan. And Japanese have closed policy for migrants
This is a good question! Unfortunately I don’t have a good answer for you right now.. but at least not that I am super aware of. I can try to find out more info on this though!
Thank you for your reply. Can you please get me this information? I would love that. ❤ Again thanks for all of your efforts to present the school in a beautiful way. You are beautiful too ❤.

I have had a PhD there for Fall 2023, but I am worried of the location and the cost of living ..any advice??

Does it have a Communication Studies PhD program?
There’s a PhD in communication and information sciences! It crosses three colleges so it’s interdisciplinary!
@@alexusandmichi Thanks for the info.
I'm curious, do they have a muslim community there?
