- This was a seriously cool location. Please check out the history of the site below. Some pretty interesting stuff...
HISTORY -
Built between 1874-76 as a private residence for the first part of its life. In 1928 it was bought by a Duchess to be used as a weekend retreat... some weekend retreat... its massive! The duchess was a keen aviator who had a hanger built on the site, and used the field as an airfield for a time. However in 1937 three months before the death of Amelia Earhart she went missing on a fairly routine flight. It is believed that she crashed in the north sea, however her body nor the plane were ever recovered. Some part of a plane washed up but it could not be confirmed that this was her plane.
Two years later the site was turned into a school and the former hanger that the duchess had built was turned into the school's gymnasium.
In 1947 the site was turned into an all girls boarding school and remained so for the next 9 years.
After that the site was bought once again and turned into a mixed gender boarding school for children with special needs aged 7-16. The site remained like this until 2004 when it closed and sat empty and abandoned for the next 6 years.
It was acquired in 2010 with the hopes of opening another boarding school on the site but had significant problems with push-back from local residents, educational governing bodies and ofsted. It was pledged more then £17 Million by the department of education for the site to be built on and redeveloped keeping the main house intact, but after all the issues the funding was withdrawn. Even though the school had opened already. So only 3 and a half years into its life, the school was closed once again in 2017 and left abandoned once more...

Urban Exploring or the Exploration of Abandoned Places is a hobby which has been around for many years. I explore derelict buildings mainly in the UK to try and uncover the history or discover the story behind why they have been left. Sometimes we find Mansions Full of Stuff or disused properties that have just been forgotten about. Either way, Urbex is always interesting. i was also at this school. i know every room in that place. you missed out the hole top floor. and fair few rooms you named wrong. if you wanted to do another vidoe id be happy to go with you and explaine every room. also few out building you missed out on and the old hanger.
My school had very similar stairs, and those pool changing rooms were exactly the same… What a blast from the past, and from another time altogether… Schools are such evocative places, the diary readings really illustrated that. Great explore Tazer, as always , thankyou !
Glad you enjoyed, my school was much less posh then that 😂
Great video 😊I enjoyed watching it!:)
Loved the video bought back some good memories. As I went to school here.
Very Positive Comment incoming! Saw your most recent video about the future of your channel. Then recommended an old video of yours with a group of others visiting an abandoned fair / theme park of some kind. Wasn't overly impressed. But this one came up in my feed and this is an outstanding video in every respect. I've seen this place visited before by a bigger and more celebrated channel and yours is much better than their one. Anyway, good job mate!
Thank you for the feedback, very much appreciated 👍
Hey Tazer! I am late and will have to go back and watch from the beginning. Looks awesome 🤩
No worries, hope you enjoy
It is very nice to watch your video. It is sort of grounding after what is going on in the world I enjoy your vids so much. What an apocalyptic looking building in the beginning . Really cool. The drone footage really shows how lovely the whole place is. American schools mostly look like shopping malls. It's so beautiful inside and many of the rooms look like the kids had just stepped out. The music you have chosen is perfect as well. Melodious, melancholy and none-intrusive. Keep up the explores.
Thank you glad you enjoyed. Yeah I really knocked this one out the park pretty happy how it turned out especially as it was only edited in a day 👍
Looking forward to watch this place 👍
And as you go the the back field, on left there was a bricked area, that's where the sheep, pigs, chickens, 2 goats and ducks were
Yep, I agree - definitely clay pigeons 😁 a brilliant video, thoroughly enjoyed watching it thank you 💕 what a fantastic building - a larger version of the school I went to so it brought back some memories…I could almost smell it, all that old wood panelling 💕 the diary was so sad though 😢
Wow u must have gone to a nice school lol. My school looked nothing like that 😂
New sub here! What a beautiful building left to rot, it makes me so sad that it will be too expensive to do anything with and become lost. I also really hope whoever wrote that diary is getting the help they need or found some happiness. Great video, I look forward to watching more!
Thank you, welcome to the channel 👍
I used to clean this school, I was still cleaning when it was shut down. When it was closed there was no warning at all, it was the school holidays and a week before we were meant to go back to clean we were told that we weren’t needed anymore. We then found out that it was because the school had been shut down. Such a shame that the building has been left to rot.
It is such a shame, sounds like a lot of people had fond memories of the place and then it got shut down very fast.
This was my old school I left in 95 as I watched your video all the memories came flooding back any questions you want to ask I will happily answer
Mine too! I left in 1999
OK that diary broke my heart having gone through similar thank yoy for keeping it private
Great video what a cool place I was surprised at some of the school being in pristine condition compared to other parts it's a shame it's been left to decay like that 👍
Thank you glad you enjoyed. It was a very cool building
I remember fondly of the swimming pool in the summer. The left of the changing room was for boys and the right was for girls
Great video, did you know that this was originally the home of Amelia Earhart, who was the first woman to fly across the Atlantic in 1928, she kept her plane in a large hangar further up the drive. How sad that it has been allowed to become so abandoned.
Really?
This looks interesting! 😊
Wow what a find. Such beautiful building and woodwork
Thank you 👍
This is amazing!!!!!!
Beautiful place, it sure belongs to someone rich. Thanks xxx
I went to an all girls grammar school that was built in 1910, it had pretty much the same staircases and wooden panelling. I can now appreciate how gloomy and dark it actually was. Sadly it was bulldozed to the ground a few years ago to make way for a new college annex. Ah, happy days! 😀
Lovely video… that place is what you want to see.. history preserved in a good enough condition that it could be saved.. outbuildings aside lol
I actually mentioned this in the original cut of the video. How this could be used for Ukrainian refugee's it's got beds ready to go. Glad u enjoyed the video
i went here between i think 2001-2002 my old class room use to be outside in them squares....they sure look lovely now :/ shocking to see how much changes in 20 years!
I'll be watching 👍
Hi Tazer, you would wonder why they don't give the furniture and other items away,so much just left whatawaste, but the staircase was amazing lovely woodwork, great architecture and fixtures.
Very sad what the children have written the way they our feeling hope they are doing okay.
Great explor enjoyed watching your video 👍
This is my old boarding school I loved it
I used to work here
And you were the absolute fucking BEST!!!!!!!!!
Hahaha 😆 not sure about that one.
This is shocking. So so sad.
Yes that was the science classroom and upstairs above just a bit to the left used to be a dorm for older boys in their last years. Then it was used as a store room for clothes and shoes
I attended this school!!! The main building wasn't all used for lessons, only 2 classrooms which were at the left but at the side. As you look at it from the front, the bottom was used as the lunch hall, the second middle was the boys floor and the top was senior girls, (on the left) and junior mix of boys and girls. The other building as you do the birds eye was the classrooms
Thank you for all the info, really interesting to hear details from people who have actually been there.
@@TazerOnlineMedia You're very welcome
Definitely clay pigeons.
Wondering where the school is?
Brilliant video guys thanks so much for sharing. Can't believe how well maintained it is.
The diary was so sad
Thank you for the comment, unfortunately i don't give out locations, however its pretty hard to hide this one, with a small amount of digging i'm sure u can find it
Well I'm from Southampton 😁
Sorry dude no more hints 😂
@@TazerOnlineMedia no worries worth a try lol
Keep up the good work
now being used for police dog training and the owners are turning it into apartments as they are getting fed up of people getting into the place and trashing it
I hope that youngster who wrote in their diary is ok now 😢
Glad to see you never got caught by security
What an incredibly beautiful building and to think it's just sitting there and being allowed to fall apart!
It is crazy, could be used for so many things
It's a listed building so they can't knock it down which is good. I enjoyed my time attending that school and boarding there
@@alisondubois3796
Oh I wouldn't expect such a beautiful place to be knocked down. I just want it put to good use instead of decaying.
Did you see at 7.20-23 picture of Marcus Garvey. I deliberately left it there for prosperity. Happy times and memories.
And the flies were a nightmare, they used to get into the fire alarms at set them off
Also, about the dinning room, by the big wood door there used to be a round plastic button, never work when I attended but I was told it was used to call for the maids in the Victorian days
Seen this a while back shame it's so far away the Joy's cool video why they always so far away lol
Its gorgeous. If it got knocked back as a boarding school why didnt they keep it as a day school? Was it always private? I mean the suicidal childs parents were paying for her to go but she wasnt even given any pocket money. If her diary was in a filing cabinet then it was confiscated by teachers in order to do that they must have been reading the kids diarys. I dont know what was wrong with the residents not wanting it changed I mean look its left now who wants that? it needs to be a private school again. Its salvageable at this point but it wont be if left much longer. I hope they have better security now and the doors are locked. Big wigs have a lot to answer for.
Places is trashed more then when I went a month ago glad to have been 1 of the first to see it un trashed
It's still pretty clean compared to a lot of the others I've seen
I went to school here sad to see it go like this it closed a year after I left. And the school merged in with chichester school what I heard. The broken down building was class rooms and last place was science block and senior boys sleeping area above the class room
Thank you for the info 👍
It has one fake alarm inside the building that beeps on a timer I went inside the building yesterday via a back entrance down a dirt path and we then just went inside the entrance with a sign that says main office and reception and nothing happened to us no one came inside the building no police dogs looks like no one has been there in ages your fine to explore it as of now 👍🏼
that was a amazing school. i left there in 1996 i heard it closed in 2004 due to goverment funding or so i heard. it looks like it changed a little after i left.
yeah thats roughly what I heard too
Just after you gonpassed the alarm part was the main hall for breakfast, lunch and dinner not a drama room the amazing stair way going up was sick Bay and lead to the middle floor which was the boys floor and going down the amazing staircase was the 2 classrooms for seniors in their last 2 years
Christine Dicks was the science teacher
Hi I went to the school and I think we all needed to save it and sort it all out and try save what left for someone to take it on as it is a big shame and upsetting that all the hard work and money got wasted for what nothing and the a lot of stories going around I heard y it closed but no one knows so maybe we all should try and save it cause I am
And yes the staff were aloud to keep pets. The head master, Howard Rooks and his wife at the time Dale Rooks and a little black dog called Solo. And the metal staircase outside was used for a fire escape for the senior girls. I had to go down it in just a towel once as I was I the bath when the fire alarm went off 😂
I went to that school it was a big place left in 2000 think only stayed open a few years after
Thank you for the info, really cool to hear from people who went here
Glass jars you found was the science room
Beautiful place
It really is 👍
I lived here. I can find you pictures of the school in its heyday!
That would be awesome could u dm me on Instagram please
At 28:47 I think that’s a smoking doll. You be able to see the tar that comes out from smoking few the tube. I remember having one of those at School back in the day. Think the official name for it was called Smokey Sue.
Oh really, lol that seems a bit morbid but I can see why they wanted to teach that
The building with all the crap on as you looked out of the window, was the cooking and design Technology class
And while I was there, everyone had single beds.
The outside run down buildings where the class rooms cooking and woodwork and hall
And the library
That's small room was used for yarn
They definitely are clay pigeons. I use to practice with them. Got a few! 😁
Thank you, really good to find out when I guess at something and get it right lol 👍
WOW🙀👍👍👍👍
The main building was the boarding part boys on first floor girls on top floor when I was the and scary as hell in the night when we use to sneak out
😂🤣
@@TazerOnlineMedia you got some parts right n some wrong lol
Which parts? I'd be interested to know 👍
i used to go there too such a lovely school i was a female boarder there when Mr Gates was the History teacher and Mr Rooks was head teacher
@@asakeolanrewaju8153 same I was there when there was
1 cottage is empty and 1 is used by onsite security
Cracking job them security are doing 🤣
😢 sad
now being used for police dog training and most of the stuff in other videos is gone, the owners are turning it in to apartments , there were people burning stuff the day i was there
