An old woooden cigar box is a great solution, especially if it has attractive logos etc. Nice retro vibe. A bit of felt in the bottom helps with scratching and so they knives don't slip around.
I actually got one of those Ikea storage things when I saw Maurice's video! The bottom of the drawer was too slick so I just cut some thin leather to fit the bottom of each section... works like a charm 😊
I picked up the Elloven from Ikea after seeing Maurice's video. A little hack I did to help pad / keep things in place was to use a cork mat. Ikea sells the "susig", a cork desk mat for like $9. Just cut the mat to size and drop it in the shelf spaces.
Currently, I have stuff everywhere! HA! I've got most of my folders in a cheap vinyl knife roll. Holds like 50. Fixed blades and multi-tools go in an old wood gift box with a sliding lid. My "Church Knives are in a 10 slot silicon knife sock. that hangs in my closet. My True EDC are on my nightstand in a Teslyar (Found them on Etsy) organizer. Then my extra watches and few other odds and ends are on my dresser in a watch box with a small drawer under it. What I'm holding out for is an old wooden machinist tool chest.
Just straight up bought the Knafs Co Burrito Grande Knife Roll before finishing the video. Literally exactly what I was looking for, excited to actually receive it.
My go to is "old" wooden machinist chests, ive got the one harbor freight sells and have to say its well worth the money. You can snag one for about $60-80, and i think they look a touch nicer then the metal toolbox if you happen to have it in like an office or bedroom.
@@TravisTaylor208 Much better then expected, drawers fit and finish is great locks work, only think i would say is maybe dont carry it by the handle if youve got it loaded down, kinda seems like that would be the one thing to fail
I've been using one of these for over 10 years. Generaly referred to as a machinist tool box. It's been holding my knife collection and edc gear for the last year or so. Before that it held all my leather working tools. It's very decent quality, especially considering the price. It's survived several moves and even been sat on. The only thing to watch out for is that it doesn't have feet on the bottom which allows the screws on the bottom to come in contact with whatever you set it on. It will scratch wood surfaces, but little rubber feet are an easy addition.
Hey Zac...lots of good options there. I store my folders and other EDC gear in a wooden machinists tool box from Harbor Freight. Lots of good sized drawers to separate knives by type, i.e., one drawer is neck knives, one is small fixed blade belt knives, the two largest drawers hold all my normal folders, and the large top tray holds my daily items plus my edc pistols and holsters. For my large fixed blades and XL Cold Steel folders I utilize several drawers in my Milwaukee 46" tool cabinet/chest combo. This box has two full width drawers that work beautifully to store and display my large fixed blades.
Love the Vault case. It even holds my ridiculously oversized Cold Steel EDC. However, I really think the Craftsman toolbox is in my future. My collection is spread over several rolls and cases. I’d like to have the majority of it in one place.
I have that same tool box, along with the rolling bottom. It’s a great system, just make sure to get stuff for each drawer to cover the metal bottom. Otherwise, it’s a 10/10!
I love the Vault case style too. Nalpak also sells inserts for other brands including other Pelican product lines, Apache cases available from Harbor Freight, Nanuk, and others. They're all very reasonably priced and just as robust as the Vault. I have an Apache 3800 and a Pelican 1120 with Nalpak inserts and I absolutely love both. The only drawback is that the vertical storage Nalpak insert like in the video doesn't easily fit super wide knives like the Spyderco Manix 2 and Manix 2 XL without some shoving and squeezing. I'm assuming it would similarly run into problems with other cleaver style knives like the Sheepdog. However, all that aside, Nalpaks have been a godsend for storing my collection.
More than 36 spots populated, now that’s a collection that would justify a toolbox (I say this whilst I too have a empty toolbox ready to go without too much of the gear)
I use a wooden toolbox, not as deep as yours, so I have my long knives going cross wise. Works pretty good, has a lift top and 8 drawers of various sizes, felt lined bottoms to the drawers keeps things quiet while opening. Reinforced with brass at the corners and a felt lined face board that covers the drawers when closed and doubles as a table top for sorting when open, kids and wife got it for me a couple years ago, holds nearly all my knives.
Fun fact im cuttently building my own knife and edc storage to hang on the wall. And yesterday I was searching on RUclips for a video with exactly that content. Thank you for your work and enthusiasm for the edc hobby. Much appreciate it. If my storage is done I'll send you a stroy I want to make wich shows what I des from beginning to hopefully final "product".
🤘 Allow me to share with you all my system of safely storing my slip joint & lock back knife collection.....it's silly cheap too. I utilize fishing lure tackle trays, specifically the PLANO PRO LATCH STOWAWAY #3700 standard (semi transparent) and the FLAMBEAU TUFF TAINER #F5007 (transparent). They are durable plastic trays w/latching air tight top hinged lids @ 14" x 8 3/4" x 2", that cost about $10 - $13. Four rows of set horizontal dividers w/plastic tab dividers can adjust to various lengths of knives that allow for a nice visual display and secure separation . Once I determine a trays layout w/dividers in place, I cut out 1/2" thk. rectangular pcs. of any type of foam or padded material, (nice tight fit helps anchor the dividers in place) push it into place....ready for your knives. This is especially handy storing my smaller vintage slip joints allowing doubling up similar sizes (back springs side to side), storing up to 26 a tray. I pop in a few small silica packets and store them anywhere away from direct heat and sun. Hope this was helpful.
Man just 5 minutes in and the Ikea Elloven got my attention. I just started collecting knives on a budget and this seems a nice affordable way to organize my EDC stuff. And when it all gets out of hand and you need something bigger, it shouldn't be hard to find a other purpose for this drawer! 😃
Similar to the KNAFS tool roll I use a Spyderco SpyderPac hanging on my closet door🙌🏻 It holds just enough knives and displays them well enough through the see through pockets. Also you can just roll it up and take it with you! Definetly works best for me, but I see the advantages of the other options as well👍🏻
Nice! ... I knew I was hooked when I got a table top gear organizer with a glass display "Top Shelf" ... I mounted a flashlight to the side and it is covered in EDC brand stickers ... Awesome Video!
Also a big fan of the toolbox storage for EDC gear. Dedicate drawers for Knives, lights, Wallets and Sunglasses. I save the bottom drawer for old holsters and rotating magazines. Since the items are tools, why not a toolbox? I have the next size up for the power supply, and peg board options. Great video on some products I wasnt familiar with.
The Craftsman toolbox was a game changer for me. Mines a bit older and with one less drawer, but my setup is very similar in how it's organized. Mine is slowly becoming covered with stickers too, like a visual history of my travels and interests.
I like your solution. I have a modest collection of about two dozen knives and a three drawer Craftsman toolbox fits my style of thinking. Regards......Tom
I have used container store kitchen knife organizers, with cork on bottom and in layers so you can leave your knives open. And/or cork rolls that I cut for the drawers so there's always a soft surface and they don't slide around.
I liked the Holmes and Hatfield display box but I couldn't justify the price so I started thinking about how I could make my own display. I got a small dresser with a three shelf top section and I use the bottom two shelves as my knife display with some 4 knife display holders that my dad was able to 3D print for me. It came out awesome!
I'm going with the craftsman toolbox. I'm also going to add some velcro to the bottom of the top lid (where you put those sticker eyes) to add some pouches to display more knives when in the open position.
I've got the locking vault case in orange. I love the flexibility of what im able to carry. I get a lot of use out of the taredown section on the bottom, and it's TSA friendly!
I keep my knives and gear in 2 old ammunition boxes from the Danish army. And for the daily knives, it is a knife box, where my grill cutlery was in😁 Keep up the fantastic content Zach🤘🔪
Very well presented Zac. Impressive collection. Got a couple of Ben's burritos replacing our actual tool roll. After watching TM vid, we decided to make ourselves 2 of the Armory display box. One from driftwood we found along the coast & one from a fallen Gum Tree (eucalyptus). We get a lot of satisfaction out of our creation & save some cash as well so we can buy more knives.!! Of course we blame you & Ben for turning us into knife addicts. Cowabunga mate.! Greetings from Australia.
For EDC dumping I also recommend an Ikea product - the UPPDATERA silverware organizer. That's dropped in the top thin drawer of my Ikea dresser and all my EDC rotation gear goes in there with room on the side for my pew. Then back to Ikea my collection is in one of their glass display cases.
Thanks for the video. This is one thing that drives me crazy. Where to put what. But still have easy edc access to it. Going to look at the Kalpak for my Apache case.
Definitely the toolbox is most efficient. I tried one but sadly my dresser is too tall and it put everything out of my line of sight lol. Maybe it’s time for a new dresser 🤔. Great videos.
Thanks for your great review man 😊. I don’t have that many (yet) pocket knives in my collection, but the Ellovan looks great. Really appreciate your review.
I put my knives and knive related items in different places, where I most likely need them. Much of it is arranged at my desk though. And I also have some of it in regular drawers. Furthermore, hanging neck knives on small hooks on the wall or on the side of the closet is great!
Thanks Zac, this is something I have been trying to think about. My wife does not like my current pocket dump and has been asking for me to figure something out. Knafs burrito grande, Ikea hack and craftsman tool box are the best for me I think.
I have a nalpack style case and for small knives I just place some rolled up paper towels in the bottom for my small knife slots so that they stick out a bit and are easier to see and grab!
Ben has to quit making so many things that I like. The burrito is now on my list of things to get. Currently, DeWalt T-Stak (especially the 2 Drawer) has become my friend for storing EDC gear and knives. My stack of these drawers has a drawer for my EDC, another drawer for pre-2005 slip joints, another drawer for Swiss Army knives and multi tools, a couple of drawers for locking folders of all ages (including that 1985 Gerber Bolt Action with original sheath). It is good. Takes a little work to get right, but most of us that watch you videos are into makings things almost perfect into something that fits our life.
So when I was helping my aunt pack as she was moving from down south to up north I came across an old jewelry cabinet. My aunt hadn't used it in years and offered it to me. My wife isn't a jewelry person, and neither am I, but I figured I could find a different use for it. I added chains to the ends, and a magnetic catch in 3 places and mounted it on my wall laying down, so the chains would keep it from opening all the way (like a drawbridge). I modified the inside and used the part where you would place rings as a built in flashlight holder. I added long coated coffee hooks on the back that securely hold my folding knives in place. The few fixed blades I have fit neatly on top of the box. It's divided in half, one side for my edc one side for my wife. Problem is we keep buying things, and I'm slowly running out of room.
I'm currently using a We/Civivi 8 knife pouch that came free with a BladeHQ order. It typically has about 10 knives in it and doesn't display them. Great for travel though. The Burrito Grande is next on my list. Ben for the win!
Another great video Zac and Jamie! I really like Bens knafs roll, that would work really good hanging in my closet where my wife makes me keep my edc gear
Love the video! I use a castle creek wooden box with drawers. It has large capacity and is a little bit more aesthetically pleasing for the nightstand than the toolbox approach.
I use that Ikea Eloven for my WFH monitor stand and keep a bunch of knives and other EDC in the drawer to fidget with during the day. It also lets me switch up my knife carry daily in my pocket organizer. Its a really good solution for me, but I may check out that craftsman tool box for main storage. Looks like it's on sale for fathers day coming up....
I have a whole bunch of budget knives, and not a lot of space, so I made myself a grid insert out of 1/6" foam core board, and put it in a small rectangular clear plastic tub with a lid that latches. It can store 24 knives safely in a 7x11" space, with great visibility. $8 bucks total. 👍
I used to use an old dresser that i painted black. But really love using the harbor freight waterproof cases. The knaf knife storage and tool burrito both look awesome.
Rustico products are great! I am going to call you out for having that Olight. Thought you were a fenix man (Tops Video) Thank you for showing some great options. I have the jumbo roll roll right now and it works but want something a little different for some knives.
That was a good romp. I use an old wooden tool box I found in a junk shop years ago, and, yes, shoeboxes. But I'm downsizing in earnest, so I will likely be trying the Knaf's Roll that you showed. Go Ben!
When my wife wanted our house remodeled I said ok as long as we cut 12x12 out of the downstairs(still a 24x24 movie/game room) and make a hardened safe room. So I have one tool box stack, a Mac roll a round and 2 Knaack jobsite boxes(both on HD pedestals). The jobsite boxes were old ones from work. I refurbished them. I bought the stack at SAMs and are stainless. The Mac box was an old one I never used in my shop. It is now my zen room lol.
I ended up using a tool drawer as well. Seems to be the best option for a lot of knives. But stil use a custom slotted knife butler for my top 5 knives in rotation that week
The craftsman toolbox seems great! You can also easily move it and all that. The only drawback I am seeing is, that the drawers don't have an inlay! Or compartments of some sort! So, stuff can yoink around when you pull out the drawers and when you move it.
I have a good sized pelican case style that is my primary storage . I also have a wall mounted display case that hold my grails and also a glass display case I bought from a jewellery store that was closing down .
Besides my overflow fixed blades, which are kept in a small hardsided Boyt case, I try not have a bunch of extra edc gear and what little I do have I keep spread out between the house, truck, and various edc/hiking bags so I always have stuff with me no matter where I am. If I were to need an organizing system, though, it would be a small toolbox.
I personally use a Nalpak Pelican case and a wooden tool chest from Harbor Freight to house my knives and EDC gear! The 21-knife case houses my more expensive knives and the tool chest houses a majority of my edc gear! I think I may have to pick up a Holme and Hatfield Armory for my nightstand!
A surprisingly lesser known tool box in Viper Tool Storage. They are better quality and thicker gauge than Craftsman and alot more color options. I have been using the large floor roller for tools and the small topper model for edc only for over ten years now and would never go another way 🙌 They even have optional color matching mat inserts. But be advised it's a rubberized base that I've had rub off on afew micarta handles. Still by far the most consolidation and best bang for your buck 😎🫶
I was blessed to be able to inherit my uncle’s Gerstner 52 Box and restore it so it’s my box on top of my nightstand with my edc and my traditional knives I almost had a another heart attack jk when I looked up the price of a new G52 box Thanks for a great review
These storage containers gave me an idea. I have a cash box I can use! I have a bicycle chain to lock it to my dresser. And I can hide my keys in a different area. Thanks for the ideas and great video Zac!
I currently have the IKEA elloven with some added felt and I have a small molded felt tray underneath where I keep a normal carry in. It's great and half the price where I live (€20) It's great!
cigar boxes have been my recent choice of desser storage
An old woooden cigar box is a great solution, especially if it has attractive logos etc. Nice retro vibe. A bit of felt in the bottom helps with scratching and so they knives don't slip around.
Shoebox companies need to step their game up
ben should make a compartmentalized storage unit that resembles a shoebox

I like that you keep the Craftsman tool chest on the kitchen island. That is the correct answer.
For the Pelican case where the small knife disappeared in the slot, you could get Pelican pick and pluck foam and make an insert to hold the knife up

Love the DIY approach!
I use the harbor freight wooden toolbox, but have some knife rolls as well.
I used to use an old dresser that i painted black. But really love using the harbor freight waterproof cases. The knaf knife storage and tool burrito both look awesome.
Definitely great options I used to use Spyderco knife roll but now I use Pelican 1450.
Go Ben!
Ahh thanks!!
I have the machinist wood tool box from Harbor Freight. Works really well .
But stil use a custom slotted knife butler for my top 5 knives in rotation that week
im more of a nafs burrito roll type of guy, thanks for this video. going to be getting one !
Love that the Milwaukee Fastback was part of the grail knife collection 😂😂
Got to be😁💪
The craftsman toolbox seems great!
You can also easily move it and all that.
The only drawback I am seeing is, that the drawers don't have an inlay! Or compartments of some sort!
So, stuff can yoink around when you pull out the drawers and when you move it.
I put in some tool box liner and it holds everything really well.🤘
@@zacinthewild Now I want to get one too, and outfit those drawers! And thanks! ♥
i have a harbor freight tool box i think its the us general 26inch top box that i keep everything in and use as a nightstand
I have a good sized pelican case style that is my primary storage . I also have a wall mounted display case that hold my grails and also a glass display case I bought from a jewellery store that was closing down .
Oh and a blade hq just one more knife roll
Craftsman 3 drawer tool box is my go to for my most used gear
Have you done a video on the gerstner wooden tool boxes? They seem like the ideal way to store knives and edc.
I love Konig!!
Luv the grail display 🤣-- I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to talk my wife into a craftsman in the living room LOL-- great vid as always
I convinced mine😁 it can be done.
The wood toolbox from Harbor Freight is a great option (although a little smaller then the craftsman toolbox).
The toolbox is perfect
Awesome video. Would love a video dedicated to notebooks and the such.
It’s really great and looks awesome anywhere!
The burrito roll and the vault case is very nice, I keep all mine in a cabinet drawer in a mess lol
I want to get the Armorer wooden show box. It would look awesome on my dresser. Right now I have a 22 knife holding bag and a tool roll.
A surprisingly lesser known tool box in Viper Tool Storage. They are better quality and thicker gauge than Craftsman and alot more color options. I have been using the large floor roller for tools and the small topper model for edc only for over ten years now and would never go another way 🙌
They even have optional color matching mat inserts. But be advised it's a rubberized base that I've had rub off on afew micarta handles. Still by far the most consolidation and best bang for your buck 😎🫶
I like the hub from homes and hadfield and the konig safe.
I am currently using a carhartt tool roll for my knife storage. Lots kf good options for me to think about upgrading!
I was blessed to be able to inherit my uncle’s Gerstner 52 Box and restore it so it’s my box on top of my nightstand with my edc and my traditional knives I almost had a another heart attack jk when I looked up the price of a new G52 box
Thanks for a great review
These storage containers gave me an idea. I have a cash box I can use! I have a bicycle chain to lock it to my dresser. And I can hide my keys in a different area. Thanks for the ideas and great video Zac!
Love it! DIY or die💪
@@zacinthewild ride or die baby
I currently have the IKEA elloven with some added felt and I have a small molded felt tray underneath where I keep a normal carry in. It's great and half the price where I live (€20)
It's great!
Like the big tool box.
wait i didn’t know that the knaf's burrito stored Knives . i thought just tools . awesome!!!!!!
This is a new bigger one specifically for knives🤘
I have a few machinist chest right now, but im thinking of either some large rolls or the Nalpak route as my chests over flow.
When my collection gets past 5-6 that burrito roll looks dope! 😅
I'm really thinking on getting the tool burrito, need something portable just in case I wanna change out gear mid day.
Great video zac as always
The burrito is great and thanks!
The tool box my favorite
Made a display box my self. But getting a toolbox soon. As my collection is growing.
Love hearing you made you’re own!
