Yah, they deserve more credit. This album came out at a time when there was so much good music coming out in a lot of genres; especially post-punk. I think bands like Talking heads were getting the air time. Still Diesel and Dust was HUGE in he US. People didn't really bother to listen to their earlier catalog then later on when alternative music blew up I think their US popularity declined.
We had to sing an impromptu song on our year 12 camp and me and some friends did this song........kind of blew the teachers away they thought we were just a bunch of surfers.LOL
Really weird seeing your 24 year old self dancing to your favourite band 35 years later. My drum kit was suspiciously beginning to resemble Robs, kinda cross between Stuart Coplands.
I was in a pub in Townsville one night years and years ago, there was a really big joint Australia/US military training exercise going on there was a US battleship and from memory maybe even a carrier parked up in the port and the city and every pub was completely overrun with US marines and navy sailor's, they had karaoke cranked up in the pub and this song came on, lol the US military guys thought it was some celebration of their presence they were roaring like bulls and fist pumping, it was the most ridiculous and cringe thing I've ever seen 🤦
Interesting. Was in the Navy during MO’s height. I was (and still am) a big fan. The few U.S. service personnel that would even know who they are knew the band’s politics.
jugophone Yep!....I have bought this legendary DVD multiple times to give as a pressie to my mates. It's a timeless classic and has the best dance off with Peter and an enthusiastic crowd member. It's the highlight of the DVD 👍 Are you located in OZ? shop.abc.net.au/products/midnight-oil-best-of-both-worlds-cd-dvd
@@Nae395 The "Oils on Water" concert on Goat Island was one of best concerts of all time, the version of Kosciuszko from that concert is my favourite version Rob Hirst totally smashes it, Peter Garrett looks kinda lost during that song he loves being the frontman but that song is all Rob Hirst.
My god. My lord. One of the greatest performances of all time
One of the greatest live bands in the world...
Agree
MIDNIGHT OIL - Live @ The Mercury Lounge, New York City, NY (USA) - 5 Dec 1997 ruclips.net/video/d_y5pkEi3Uc/видео.htmlsi=N_iXlxB3q76P97o7
One of the greatest songs ever by one of the best bands ever!
Saw and met the Oils after their concert in San Jose back in 1988. Still a big fan of theirs...
Ironically I was active duty career Navy when this came out but it was (and still is) one of my favorite albums of all time.
midnight oil deserves much more, even though they succeeded in Australia, they are one of the best bands I've heard.
Probably the 2nd best Aussie rock band, 1st is AC/DC
INXS?
It’s not a competition

Des anyome know the locstion of this. I know its Sydney but where.
Darling Harbour I think because that's where the Harbour bridge is
Pretty certain it was Goat Island, situated in Sydney Harbour
Wtf us force
Oils were better than INXS. Peter Garrett was a better frontman than Michael Hutchence as well.
You don't compare, you just appreciate.
Garrett . . in retrospect (what would we know etc ) . . was kinda naive . . in making camp with tha commies wasters
