Same here. I was starting my senior year when I watched the movie for the first time. This song stuck with me all year till graduation. Really takes me back. My first car, my first road trip with that car. All the possibilities were ahead.
The 90s were so wonderful. Listening to music like this makes me happy and sad in equal measure, happy because of the memories and sad because we will never have times like those again.

Bic Runga is one of NZ's very finest female artists. Every time I hear this song it brings a tear to my eye and makes me think of home. Aotearoa, New Zealand.
My pa was in the Canadian Navy and went away for long periods of time. 6 months at a time, frequently. He would bring me back the most beautiful worldly gifts. Handmade instruments, a wooden blimp with a little wooden captain that would circle around my bed like a mobile, a ship in a glass bottle, a gorgeous handmade kite... but he also brought home music. I remember him bringing home this album and being so fascinated by it. It hadn't even hit North America at that time, he was way ahead of the game! This song is special to me for that reason. Love you dad.
I always wonder, what is time?... Feels like it was yesterday I was a young lad watching American Pie for the first time. Times were different, dare I say times were better? Nostalgia? What is nostalgia? This is a weird thing we are going through. God bless.

I disagree, but I hear what you're saying. It sounds very 90s, mid-to-late 90s. Fits right in there with artists like Sixpence None The Richer, and the like.
I came across this song while searching for something to play on RUclips, and when I played it, everything from my teenage days came back to haunt me. I feel like I've been transported back in time. I remember almost everything... and I remember her.
@Bic Runga awesome to see you reply to my comment. That song sure takes me back to being 19. I am 41 now. Love the song and watched American Pie with my buddy Jim 12 times at the theater!

When I worked in Oman way back in 2005, there were 2 young Filipina singers. They’re great and I always requested them to sing this song in a hotel cafe bar where they were performing.

Watched all the American Pie movies Saturday, Sunday, and today. The spin offs aren’t very good, but Jim’s dad is a gem in all of them, gives him a lot more backstory for his character. I watched American Reunion today and I had to listen to the soundtrack, brought me to this. The 4 original American Pie films are awesome. The spin-offs fell to capture that spirit that all the regular cast seem to have.
Turning 40 this year, this song brings a tear to the soul thinking of years gone by

Don't stray
Don't ever go away
I should be much too smart for this
You know it gets the better of me
Sometimes
When you and I collide
I fall into an ocean of you
Pull me out in time
Don't let me drown
Let me down
I say it's all because of you
And here I go
Losing my control
I'm practicing your name
So I can say it
To your face it doesn't
Seem right
To look you in the eye
Let all the things
You mean to me
Come tumbling out my mouth
Indeed it's time
Tell you why
I say it's
Infinitely true
Say you'll stay
Don't come and go
Like you do
Sway my way
Yeah I need to know
All about you
And there's no cure
And no way to be sure
Why everything's turned inside out
Instilling so much doubt
It makes me so tired
I feel so uninspired
My head is battling with my heart
My logic has been torn apart
And now
It all turns sour
Come sweeten
Every afternoon
Say you'll stay
Don't come and go
Like you do
Sway my way
Yeah I need to know
All about you
Say you'll stay
Don't come and go
Like you do
Sway my way
Yeah I need to know
All about you
It's all because of you
It's all because of you
Now it all turns sour
Come sweeten
Every afternoon
It's time
Tell you why
I say it's
Infinitely true
Say you'll stay
Don't come and go
Like you do
Sway my way
Yeah I need to know
All about you
Say you'll stay
Don't come and go
Like you do
Sway my way
Yeah I need to know
All about you
It's all because of you
It's all because of you
It's all because of you
Yes, perfection, nostalgia. Ethereal, well written. And great harsh metal riff included.
Thanks!
Thank you 👍🏻👍🏻

Watched all the American Pie movies Saturday, Sunday, and today. The spin offs aren’t very good, but Jim’s dad is a gem in all of them, gives him a lot more backstory for his character. I watched American Reunion today and I had to listen to the soundtrack, brought me to this. The 4 original American Pie films are awesome. The spin-offs fell to capture that spirit that all the regular cast seem to have.
