    Excited to join on console on about 2 weeks. Artemis, Tiamat, Arthur, Scylla, and Fafnir would be great additions. They bring hype factor to the game.

    I used to think playerbase size mattered. Yet Marvel Rivals has 50% of the human population online and the matchmaking is still totally dog shit. At this point I just have zero faith in matchmaking ever being good.

      Rivals matchmaking for ranked specifically is AWFUL I had one game were I was playing against plat players as a silver.

      Dedicated community is always better for ranked than player size. CS and DOTA have notoriously been god awful in terms of ranked while being in the top 3 playerbase on steam for over a decade

      Rivals is a season zero game with cross play on release and no role queue. I’m not sure it’s a remotely good example at the moment. I’m not sure they bother matchmaking at all in casuals regardless.
      My ranked experience even after all that has been completely to the contrary I rarely see more than 1 person outside of the majority rank. All goods except for a single plat for example.

    Honestly I have to say I hope they refine the looks of the game more to be more similar to smite 1's artstyle again. Biggest thing I think will be a problem for people is them not making it feel familar enough with items and the unique old style that smite has, although I feel like that kind of look was unique to just how old the game is and the way people feel that someone is unique with it looking "old fashioned"

    The matchmaking issue is dire. Like, I get better matches at 3 AM in Smite 1. Than in Smite 2 at human hours.

    I'm super excited for them to implement the part of matchmaking they said they were working on where teams arent only balanced by sr by also by a separate sr for the specific role theyre playing. Im assuming it hasnt been implemented yet though because of playerbase.

      It just hasn’t been implemented yet, the current MM is held together by toothpicks and glue, and it’s not because of a low player base, they just haven’t put it in yet

    I wonder how they’ll tackle “making the game less toxic” i think they had mentioned it in the goals they had when it was first coming out. It’s really hard to take the competitive toxicity out of a competitive game but smite definitely feels less toxic/competitive compared to other MOBA’s. I love playing this game casually but it feels terrible when you start out/trying to learn and get trashed on for being bad so hopefully when open beta happens people are nicer to the new players. 😔

I was lucky since my first “super toxic” person was like 20 hours into playing smite but people ive tried to introduce to the game drop it due to not liking how unwelcoming the game is to new players. Hope we get some more tutorials for conquest bc that stuff was so stressful when i first satrted.

I may never be on the level of someone like Jordan however trying what he used to do give me the feeling like I am. Same thing with smite. I enjoy seeing what the peak of the game play is meant to look like compared to mine

    Primary reason I haven't made the full time jump to Smite 2 over Smite 1 is the lack of game modes, but as soon as they add Joust, I'm there, and I think there are a lot of players that still play Smite 1 exclusively for this reason. I will seriously miss Slash though...

    My main issue is the inability to item build and preset ability level order. I truly enjoy Smite 2 currently and my friends are waiting for the beta to jump into the game with me.

    I think one of the issues that they need to fix asap is the input lag and desync that exists rn, probably server wise or optimization idk, but it is an on going issue since the alpha, i mean it doesn't make the game unplayable but it's something that from a competitive level perspective is annoying, specially carrying muscle memory from SMITE 1 it's something quite annoying

      @ On stream my FPS might drop below 120 because I'm streaming in 1080p AND recording in 1440p while playing on max settings. When I'm just playing, I get capped 144 fps and it feels no different.

    I don't know if it'll come up, I just found this video while looking for answers. It took Smite over 20 minutes to load into the game for me just now, not into a game, but clicking the icon on the desktop to the main menu. I don't know what content they needed me to download since I stopped playing a few hours ago and came back, but, that took most of the time at easily over 14 minutes.

    My biggest issues with S2 is matchmaking and balancing. Matchmaking you hit on pretty well in the video but the item and character balance is so bad. I know it’s in alpha but no one should be hitting 80k damage in a 15 minute arena game. You have to play DPS or mages if you even want to try having fun because everyone is doing insane damage

    For the algorithm I belive the simple solution would be taking mode instead of avarage mmr in a team. This would help compare teams without risk of large mmr gap between lowest and highest.

    I’d rather have a very long queue time than be queued with timmy cant hit an ability who tanks my SR.
    Also if you have a good match aka positive KDA and good GPM, you shouldn’t be punished as hard for losing. I hate that regardless of individual performance, SMITE 2 punishes everyone the same for losing.
    So if one player feeds the enemy team, and there’s no vote to kick and they end the game 0-10-0 and I take a huge SR loss for performing better than that person, ranked means NOTHING at that point because it’s not indicative of YOUR SKILL LEVEL.
    Also bring back 5 man ranked stacking. EVEN WITH A FULL 5 stack team, the numbers at their highest only indicated a 58.1% win rate which means not even 2/3s of matches are won by 5 stacks.
    FFS it’s a team based competitive game, why am I dependent on randoms???

      Probably purposely. You win one then lose one because of randoms on your team. This makes you want to keep playing and grinding to reach that "just out of reach" promised land.

      But it doesn’t though. It actually has the opposite effect. Because the game is free to play there’s no sunken cost fallacy here. There’s no reason to keep playing a game where the only cost is time and not money + time.
      On top of that there’s no point to ranked outside the top 50. The people who are the absolute best or grind it 24/7 will have high ranks but I’d say out of the top 100 players the rest are a hodge podge.
      I’ve beaten players 2000 SR above me and lost games because one player on our 5 man was 1000 SR lower fed and sank our team.

    so funny thing on the no way to look at items without practice range or opening up a separate source for the information. I have been playing league lately a game that is very similar obviously and many years older does not have a way to look at items without pulling them up separate and when looking at characters not in a match you do not see actual numbers for abilities just a short description. i think screens need to be cleaned up and things looking nicer on outer screens but i dont think having to go into what is a good practice range is a problem

      @quannyquan3539 and its ok for me to say hey I'm other games this I'd a normal thing that isn't included in never said it shouldn't be but I don't think it is that big of a deal to see an item in game, launch a practice or just look the items up it doesn't hurt anyone or really take much time. There are many things I would prefer before this and just wanted to bring up that in other games that are the biggest similar rival doesn't have it and it doesn't matter and stated smite is already doing better having exact numbers for abilities but would like to have a display of what the abilities do in a small video when u click on the god over a god builder to be honest.

    As for the lack of content , bugs and polishing. Not having a lot of content in an Alpha is fine, genuinely it is, they have mentioned their main focus is making gods which shows and they've now released a bunch of them, would've rather had it so they all feel actually unique and not as boring and bland. CC buffering feels very off to play with, all to fix an issue which they themself created. Herc ult doesn't need a knockup, ama ult did not need to be a circle at the last swing. Making CC easier to hit and adding more CC in a system and a game designed for 2 relics is very odd. I'm still waiting for auto attacks to actually feel good in smite 2. In smite 1 it feels impactful in smite 2 it simply does not.
    Now to talk about the bugs. They have been in the gaming industry for 10+ years. Bugs like the ones are showing up, shows that all of their senior developers got up and left and went to work on a bigger project which supports them better financially. The higher ups take credit for something that the staff created. As we all have experienced, smite 2 is not smite 1. Smite 1 is still prefered by many players, could this be because of the paywall? Yes and no, numbers clearly show that people were interested but once they tried it felt it wasn't good they all got up and left. I still have tried smite 2 today and eventhough it's gotten better it's still nowhere as good as smite 1. The auto attacks will always feel clunky in this game, no one cares about animation to this extend, we want a fun game. We are into smite cus of the combat, making the game visually more appealing is nice and all but sadly enough it has taken away a lot of the first game's actual feel. I am and have always been an adc main, the autos in smite 2 reach further than in smite 1. I don't know why this is the case at all. It doesn't make any sense, the delayed timing of autos in smite has been replaced making auto attacks more mundane. A lot of things that are in smite 1 for a reason have either been changed or removed. Take for example tanks being locked into animations whenever they cast abilities. Geb can move while casting his 2, geb has a more controlable knockup in his 1. How are these things good for the game?
    Having played 17k hours in total accross 13 years, it actually hurts to see them making smite 2, not having learned anything that made smite 1 a unique experience. I will not be surprised if the game never reaches a playerbase above 10k. The most important part about making a game, is making it fun. I have never ever seen my friends who are also experienced players be so mad at a video game, from inbalance, to bugs, to how stale some thing is. It's truly the saddest thing to see.

    I know my biggest issue is still the number of times my game crashes. Normally at least once per game. I am aware that my pc is sub-optimal, but it can run smite 1 more than fine, but smite 2 i max at 30 fps and often freeze or crash and that's my biggest hurtle. I am hype for the open beta update tho. I see a lot of potential from it.

    Nobody is going to stick around when TTK is absurdly high and it's practically impossible to die in lane unless you put your brain on airplane mode. Balancing Smite 2 around casual players is how you guarantee a quick downfall. Make TTK feel as close as possible to how it is in Smite 1 currently. Give higher base health or whatever to arena and joust modes so casuals are happy too.
    Nobody wants to play 9.5 again.

    Saying the out of game experience of smite 1 is better than smite 2 because of a difference in development age, is honestly crazy. They don't want to do end of lobby animations, they think the main menu looks good. The things that made smite unique are slowly fading, they're making a generic 3D moba. Smite 1 has gotten the players due to it's unique feel, it's a niche all of us enjoy. Smite 2 feels very much anti-unique. smite 2 feels closer to paragon than it does to smite 1. That's not a good thing, that's a very very bad thing.

      reason 1:
      you need a pc that costs quite a lot of money to run the game at 150 constant fps. Even pro's on their good setup get frame drops.
      reason 2:
      The feeling of the auto attacks feels a lot less impactful than in smite 1.
      reason 3:
      CC buffering + other changes make the game feel off. The game because of these things do'nt feel smooth at all.

    I stopped smite 2 because the staleness of it all with the lack of gods and only conquest at the time so I feel the lack of content. But it looks a lot better then it did. And an item screen would go along way yea

    Played Smite 2 today for the first time after putting at least 1k hours into Smite. I'll keep it simple, it's nothing but a downgrade. Why in the world would HiRez add more complication to the build system (wtf are aspects?) when it's the main barrier for new players to overcome in any MOBA? The decisions they're making have done nothing but make the game harder to get into for newcomers and harder to get back into for longtime players, I genuinely have no idea what the thought process behind this was.

    Unreal Engine 5, is a very heavy game engine. It will take a pretty long time for them to optimize it.
    for me personaly nether game is playable at the moment
    Im pretty sure they split the servers rather than expanding, so anyone not next to smite data center lags like crazy.

    tbh smite 2's out of game experience is miles better than the confusing as shit smite 1 home screen. (I'm a semi new player) I don't have a problem with free games having different monetization's but smite 1's home page looks like malware. they push way too much shit in your face imo. (ofc god builder and looking up items was nicer, but other than that i like the design)

    Personally from a business perspective I think smite 2 should of been a different game. I think it should of ditched items and building and make it more beginner friendly. Just focused on abilities. Maybe keep conquest gamemode and also art style more realistic similar to Paragon to fit more with mythology side. As seen by smite 1 they are not winning in the moba segment. I think what makes smite unique is really the gods and mythology fighting aspect that's what they should push. It sucks to say but the moba aspect is killing it's model to retain and gain players. People who are dedicated, hardcore and specially willing to take the time to learn the complexity of mobas are not playing smite for the most part. Other games like league, Dota fill that role and have been doing it much longer and more efficiently. I hope not, but Im afraid that smite 2 is doomed to repeat the same mistakes with this model. I mean look at games like marvel rivals, black myth wukong, even fortnite in its early years. It knew its strength in what differentiated them and pushed them while also still allowing a big mass to enjoy the game

    Sorry, but Smite 2 looks like cheap Chinese mobile game, and it uses UE5. it is quite similar to Smite 1.

    Here is a fun idea:
    Rama, aspect of strength. You lose the attack speed stim on the 2 and instead gain a power buff. Allowing for full power rama to be a thing

    They need to do something about the health bars (UI), I don't know how nobody has complained about the health bars for minions and camps but the tet for their health is actually such a massive accessibility problem that makes it a guess for securing small health bars.

    match making also needs to be in casual game modes i hate this only ranked needs match makign mind set i dont wanna a player of ten plus years getting match with 0 and 9 thanatos in 4 minutes i got that three games in a row last week all three thanatos different people all fed there life off and i dont even think they were trolling they were trying they just dotn know how to play its unplayable

      Matchmaking is and always has been in casual modes, you have a seperate MMR for each

    What if they let people pick what elo they think they're at for casuals when there's no player data. So that way pro players could pick like grandmaster and avoid getting with silver players. Obviously you could just lie to stomp lower lobbies so there needs to be other systems in place but this added on to the already existing matchmaking could help

      @Kyydon the elo selection I'm suggesting would just be a starting point. So after enough matches it wouldn't even affect the matchmaking. I'm suggesting it as a way to stop high level players from getting into low player games early on while the game figures out your skill level

      @@Kyydon but games are already chalked due to bad matchmaking. If there is a big skill gap it would move them up or knock them down quickly because there would be match data to go off. Also having bad games of a spot you chose to be in wouldn't feel as bad as having bad games because of bad matchmaking, at least you'd be in control for a brief period of time. I don't think you understand my point of it being a temporary thing for the first x amount of matches you play

I think placement games is the idea you’re more looking for. When making a system like you described, the first question should be “how will this be abused by players” because it will be. And that system would be highly abusable by anyone from trolls to delusional players. That would be causing nearly permanent bad matchmaking.
