    You need that much honey if your not insulating and your useing wood boxes
    With no isolation and them nasty top vents they will never go threw 30 pounds of honey if my friend can winter bees in Yukon.and he
    Is in the coldest part of Canada and he uses 30 pounds please
    David try it with one give put them in a poly box and track there honey you will see there
    Is a big difference

    You just running to fast over the importance of boxes “ you don’t want to many’s boxes over “ happens to me, I combined with newspaper and not being in time to remove the dip boxe and I have a dip full of honey, I put that box on bottom full of honey, so I don’t have no honey to take from that colony.

    Is it too late to get a nuc and move to a single 10 frame box over winter?

    Good morning Dave, we have a big golden rod run getting ready to start. So I been feeding my bees for about 3 weeks to build up the hives. I get more honey in the fall, from all the golden rod. Weaver in western PA. So I’m pulling my treatment off and adding a super on each hive. Just wondering what is your thoughts? Also I take off a lot of honey, but leave some for the bees. I do feed in the late fall and winter.

    Late winter last year on a warm day, we had a bee come to the house and actually set off the ring camera! I ended up filling the water and that seemed to satisfy her. I love watching that video❤️. Love your stories!

    Hi David. Combining hives. I think its vary important topic, but not many videos regarding this. I'm in my second year of beekeeping. Started season with two hives, but with all splitting and catching swarms I have now 5 hives and 2 nukes. Some are doing well, some are re-queening themselves. I would like to combine them going into winter, ideally down to 4 hives. Love your channel! Greetings from UK.

    If you put additives to your 1:1 as I do, are the bees able to separate the pollen from the nectar when they store ? I guess what I am asking is does adding pollen to the 1:1 change the honey?

    • @beek
      @beek  2 месяца назад

      Not to store it in the comb.

    Thanks David! I want to treat for mites but how do I do that when my queen is laying on the supers? I couldn't find her to move her down and place the queen excluder. But still how can I treat for mites even though the bees are working through the honey flow and without affecting the honey with the apiguard? I live in middle Wisconsin btw

    • @beek
      @beek  2 месяца назад

      You’ll have to follow the label and take the honey supers off.

    Unrelated question. I have been looking at purchasing some new deep boxes. I have noticed some are 9 7/8s some 9 5/8s and one at 9 1/2. What size is a dead suposto be and will the frames from my 9 7/8 deep fit the other boxes.
    And why so many different dimensions. All were stated as standard deep boxes.

      Every company has slightly different measurements. I’ve noticed that too.

    Minnesota. I’ve used 3 deeps to over winter. Seems like if mites are under control, if they make it past November, they generally come into spring looking good.
    However, maybe I should try two deeps? Or a full deep super of honey as the third is better?

      Hard to argue with success.

    Hi there.
    No David. You are not crazy. My bees also come and "call" me for feeding. Even when i go out wit the feeding bucket they will imedeately hover over me. If i do not have the feeder in hand. They dont come to me. The bees even come into the house an hover over me if i am late with the feeder. They are smart. For sure.

    Just started my journey in May with 2 nucs. One of them is filling the second deep. The other is struggling and I'm re-queening in a couple of days. I have to find the lazy, aggressive girl that's in there right now though. TODAY!

    I've been struggling this year with my 2nd super in one hive being honey bound. I've been pulling a couple frames of honey at a time and replacing them with undrawn frames including a drone frame. She is finally up there! This hive is so strong this year, I'm so happy. So far, no chemical treatments have been needed due to the green drone frames- thanks to David for so well promoting them!

    So I know a double queen set up known, but has anyone put 6 hives or more together, lay queen excluders across all brood and stack supers in a way that two plus hives feed into the supers. So 6 hives and 5 stacks of honey supers. I feel it would produce way more honey this way. The only down fall is spread of viruses and disease. Thoughts or experience please.
