I just realized today that when i went to calculate power dissapation at 8v@5a. i used 10v instead.it would be 70w not 60.😆My comment of," if it works at 6amps it will work at 20amps"really wasn't the most accurate statement.i was over generalizing i think.if the capacitors are low in value,power supply output voltage could sag under load..ive also seen other power supplies with current limit go into limiting prior to their design parameters because of lower value capacitors.
Ah, crowbar protection. I remember working on a big old AC drive that used SCRs instead of transistors in the inverter section. I put my oscilloscope onto some circuit and managed to trigger the crowbar protection, blowing some very large and expensive fuses 😮
Oh wow,sounds like you hit the sweet spot😄scr's do come in the sensitive gate variety,these scr's are not.you musta' had the,"itchy trigger finger"variety.😆makes sense you might of had some expensive cartridge fuses.just don't wrap them with aluminum foil.😁thanku for comment.

you hooked the fuse holder up wrong. The line always goes to the end terminal, less chance of a shock hazard.
