  • The Mk4 1.8t boost flutter issue. It's a thing. Has anyone ever figured out how to fix it? Can we fix it? (probably not) How hard could it possible be?
I hope this gives you something to amuse you for a little while. Why not check out some of my other videos while you've got some idle time on your hands?

But I'm a special kind of crazy.

For me it was the n249 valve, I ran the diverter directly to the intake manifold and removed the 249 and put a resistor from carrot top tuning

It’s a lot of things it could be. It’s either a vacuum leak, n75 valve or a bad wastegate perhaps a boost leake.

Looking more like a bad wastegate, which means the whole turbo needs to be changed out since it's got an internal wastegate.

Im fairly new to my golf, had it for about a half a year, and its been running fine has a ko3s turbo on it and a replaced engine from an audi tt. However i noticed when im at idle my boost guage likes to bounce around -20 to -10 psi. While driving, the boost is absolutely normal but only at idle it likes to flutter a bit. My rpms also kind of flutter a bit too. I cleaned my throttle body and also the MAF but the issue seems to like to come back. Any suggestions?

I have a similar issue with a misfire in an Audi A4 2006 2.0TFSI - I could be something under the hood, I've just about replaced all mine but not found the issue.

I had a similar issue with my gti where after I would go full throttle and then all of a sudden from 27 psi for like 2 seconds then it would drop to 5 psi and would choke my engine, it would run perfect idling, 2 step, pretty much anything under 15 psi, what I found was my aftermarket inlet piping going from my airbox to the turbo was collapsing and it would plug itself under high boost, not from it being a bad product but since I never trimmed my inlet like the instructions would tell me and struggled to install it to the turbo, part of the intake was being pinch but I didn't think much of it, after thinking it was everything else like the n75 valve, bad piping, bad vacuum lines, I saw a forum post to check the inlet which I did and thought about it and it finally clicked, so I trimmed my inlet for a better fitment which I noticed there wasn't a pinch anymore and during the test drive I could push it without issue now.

I have a somehow similar problem : wot goes to 1.1 bars ,drops to 0.9 bars after the initial spike and after that it drops again to 0.7 bars.If it was a boost leak , would it hold 0.7 bars until redline?

Recommend pvc delete to clean up all the vaccum lines
Tug on the wastegate arm. Shouldnt b to budge, and no rattling from the wastegate flapper
Take the n75 valve and blow air n and out on the side that goes to the wastegate. Should only get air to flow one way
A tired factory diverter should b replaced

Can''t delete anything due to emissions testing we have where we live. Will look at the wastegate. N75 is new OEM. Diverter has been replaced with a Forge.

The problem with my boost surge was the n75 after I had my car tuned under load it would fluctuate . I done some digging and found that if you adjust the tiny screw on top of the n75 it smooths out the boost delivery which stopped my boost from fluctuating . I think you need to turn it clockwise a tiny amount at a time then test drive until the boost stops fluctuating. My guess the n75 goes out of its idle range and try’s to pull back boost but the ecu says otherwise.

That is really helpful to know, thanks! Will try that out.

The screw is lock tighted so it can be pretty hard to turn good luck and keep us posted 🤙🏼

What I should say aswel if you turn the screw anti clockwise boost will be very aggressive . very small adjustments makes big differences

Have you fixed this ? Have you checked if the actuator nuts are tight and is in the actual position that it came from factory ?

I have not solved this yet - the clutch gave up the ghost at 241,000 miles and the car has been on the back burner while we've been dealing with the transmission on our other Jetta. I plan to come back to this over the winter, after I put in a new clutch.

It’s going to be a boost leak, n75, or a software issue

Did you fix the the problem!??

    • @CliffjumperCars
      @CliffjumperCars  Год назад +1

Nope! Continues to be a quest. I'll be returning to this issue while looking at other issues the car has. A lot of Mk4's have weird electrical problems, and this one is no exception... if the boost flutter isn't mechanical in nature, the electrical problems that show up all over the car may have something to do with it.

@@CliffjumperCars Yep, sadly is very hard find the solution. Take it easy will need patience to solve. In my mk4 i had flutter sound after replacement the thermostat.. also had pressure leak need to test with smoke machine. Let's us know if you solve with some video. Good luck 🤞

Still working on it... still an issue!! We've tested and found several problematic valves in the system, dealt with several leaking hoses, tried different software, tried different diverter valves... seems like the single thing we haven't been able to verify is that the turbo internal wastegate is actually working or that there isn't a mechanical problem with the turbo itself. We're going to have to dive back into it again soon. But the clutch just went out, so that's got to take precedent... we'll be doing that and the timing belt. And some suspension work. THEN we'll look at this boost issue again.
