- Do not try this yourself. I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Thanks for watching.

You treated that abandoned place better than some treat working hotels/motels.
It's so refreshing to see someone else from my generation show some common decency and respect. That's what I really like about post.
@@RT-qd8yl Younger generations always act with more decency and respect than older ones.
The way I see it as, a shelter is a place to be safeguarded and maintained, it protects you from the harsh outdoors; in a way it's your friend so why harm your friend. You keep the shelter nice it'll return the favor and keep the harsh weather from getting to you. I treat every shelter like a companion
Keep doing these weird camping videos, I absolutely love them.

Whats there to be scared of?? Lol its like -5 degrees out and he already policed the whole area to see if anyone else was out there, nonetheless id be armed just in case
You know he's got one of those little single shot survival .22 from a survival raft on him at all times. He keeps that heater on him.
One of the things I like best about your videos is that you have the ability to sound very conversational. When you speak you make it seem as if we are right there with you. I think that's a big part of what makes your videos so popular.

Possibly the last TRUE customer at that motel! He didn't pay the bill!!! Fantastic video, your channel just keeps getting better!
Might sound strange, but... your heat is mostly going into the air, piling against the ceiling, and then finding a way out. If you remember the culvert, the concrete absorbed and held the heat. Use that concept... put something thick, like chunk of metal (the TV) or porcelain (the toilet), or stone (the lamp body) near the heater, possibly even directly in the path. They'll act as heat sinks (just like that metal bedframe), hold that temperature, and then slowly release it. Hold that temperature NEAR YOU, down near floor level, not going straight up.
Hm.. that’s damn good advice. Thank you!
Nice advide 👍

You may be the first person in 2022 to call something legitimately challenging a challenge. That hike must've been the type of exhausting I've avoided the last 15 years.
Steve Wallis mentioned you in his year in review video last week. Glad to see you both doing some stealth camps (in your unique ways)
I typically don’t watch hour long vids cause either I don’t have the time and or because my attention span has suffered from the exposure of 10 minutes vids or less over the years. So I told myself I’d only watch 10 or 15 minutes and come back later. Amazingly and effortlessly made it to the end of the vid cause our host has a talent for keeping a viewer entranced and engaged. I’m the furthest type of viewer from this guy’s interests that I could be and yet he holds me for the entire experience. Bravo.
You would be the perfect house guest. Never ruining things (unless it's a beaver dam lol) and always putting things back how you found them or better. 💖

Having been homeless prior to 2019, I'll have to say the coldest I've been through in a tent covered with a tarp during winter, was -35*c... cold weather living wasn't easy... but I have been a subscriber since you had Miss Whoo, about a little over 3 years now... loving the new stuff you post... the culvert camping challenge was pretty cool to watch from a survivalist perspective.

It's one thing doing it for fun and another because you have to.
The color transfer from the mattress to the sheets could be from mouse urine. You probably can't smell it from the cold. You'd know once the room warmed up. Good call on the pillows. Your head disturbing a moldy pillow all night could not be good. New pillow case or not.
I'd say bring a thick plastic bag to cover the pillow, zip tie it shut, then put the pillow case over it. But hindsight is 20/20.

Post10 with insomnia at an abandoned freezing hotel was hilarious!!
Man! It amazes me you have what it takes to do this kinda thing! Keep it up!!
I slept several times in the car at -2C. Only old military sleeping bag and double socks haha. I can’t imagine how dangerous it is to sleep at -29C. Incredibly interesting videos!
Interesting, during some bad and tough times, I have also spent a few nights sleeping in freezing cold in a military sleeping bag - it was much better to take off your clothes, or else most probably you wouldn't be able to sleep well. Once your body warms up the interior of the sleeping bag, everything is perfect.. A wool cap for the head is also a must there, of course.. Pozdrav!
I slept several times in a tiny tent at -25C and a new military sleeping bag during exercises at the East German border back in the cold war days. It sucked, a few people of my unit had to check out with frozen extremities.
@@BarryBarrington_ Wow, man, sorry to hear that.. Our sleeping bags were ok, nothing spectacular, but really good for the purpose..
Next step: overnight inside a beaver dam!
I would love to see that
They don't live in the dam, but in a den built of sticks, or a bank den which is a hole in the river bank. Post 10 in a beaver costume camping in a brush pile would be pretty funny.
Can't decide on the quote of the day: either "I might wake up to a mouse on my face" or "that toilet's taking a bath by the looks of it"
I was shivering watching this. I did a lot of cold sleeping during my homeless years, and it was one of the things I disliked most. Sometimes it took two days for my feet to warm up. But it was safer than being indoors at the time. I have appreciated heat ever since.

Nice 👍🏼 job P10, as a trucker I ran into situations that called for using some creativity, but I do remember going into Caribou late in the afternoon but delivery called for the next day and they asked if I could wait, of course I said yes and as it was a mid February night it got down to -25 and windy, I ran my engine and turned the heater all the way up but it was still damn cold and used every blanket I had, yes always keep a pee bottle with you so you don’t have to go outside at 3 in the morning ! Keep up the great job !
I was actually in Caribou Maine 2 times to see Phish. Man Caribou is up there. Way north.
I seriously cannot imagine trying something like this. You are one tough explorer, Postie!
I was a maintenance guy for 4 different hotels a couple years ago.
Just a FYI, typically, hotels/motels are insulated on the exterior walls, and only top floor ceilings. A running hotel/motel will be heated from within by the individual rooms, as well as the common areas of the facility.
I love this! Maybe you should get a sleeping bag made for winter temps if you decide to do a video like this again.
I was shocked he didn't. What if his Walmart heater had crapped out in the middle of the night? lol
@@GeekyPuppetShowShorts It's not a "Walmart heater". 🙄 It's a "Mr. Heater" brand "Little Buddy" possibly the "Big Buddy." Not sure without a closer look. Either way, a well known brand, not some cheap piece of crap. Many of us have relied upon these while ice fishing, in Winter hunting cabins, power outages etc etc. Edit: They put out a lot of heat actually. 10K btu, easily enough to get a small home or apartment to 50*F in 20-30* weather. I could only imagine what -20 feels like.
I’d again be too scared to sleep for fear of waking up frozen stiff! 🥶
Or finally falling asleep that night… and just never waking up ever again!? 😱🥶😱 Holy, snap-dragons!!! 🙅♀️ Nope. Thx, but no thx… that could NEVER be me in there. 😌
Besides, I’m from (& still in) the Deep South… we do not experience anything like this. The coldest winter-weather I’ve EVER experienced in my life (thus far), was during that “deep freeze” & light snow (actual snow, too! Not the wet/cold slush we usually get, if anything.) we had back in 2017. Which got down to 20-22°F during the day & about & a few places with temps in the teens, esp. at night (15-17°F +/-) on the Northshore, but that’s about it. 😂🤷♀️
Some people prefer Fahrenheit, its what we grew up with in the US, also the scale is a better fit for weather temperatures.

The freezer at my work is -25 and can be put down to -25 😅 put it this way within 30 seconds of being in there i have icicles forming on my beard and i start to struggle to feel my hands 😅
Pro tip: make the space you are trying to warm as small as possible. Last year in the Texas freeze, those folks that thought to set up tents in the most protected room of the house (less windows & thickest walls) and have the whole family sleep in the tent did the best. If you can get an insulated clam-style tent, an insulated self-inflating sleeping pad (I always recommend the Exped Mega Mat Duo 10 which has an R rating of 9.5 and is super comfy) and a down or down alternative sleeping bag with a fleece blankie inside, then you can sleep almost anywhere, as long as it’s semi protected. Next time, bring a stove to boil hot water and fill a hot water bottle and put it in the sleeping bag, you can repeat often. Hot food & drinks will also help you stay warm. A good sleeping bag, even if it’s secondhand, is money better spent than throw away sheets Buddy. . Invest in merino wool thermal clothes which can keep you warm even when wet and they allow evaporation and are odor resistant. You work in the cold so much that the investment is well worth it. What you don’t want to do is sleep in plastic/rubber (like that jacket) or something that won’t breathe cuz the moisture will build up and you’ll freeze. I know you are frugal, but you can get good quality gear at your local goodwill/thrift store, or just put out the word locally and I’m sure people would be happy to give you their unused gear. You do a lot for the communities you work in, taking unused gear off their hand is a win/win.
Oh, I saw that Steve Wallis mentioned you camping in a culvert recently! So awesome 😎. I think you guys have overlapping audiences and appeal. It’s likely your both no-nonsense and frugally having fun outdoors. Love it!

Hello from Ireland 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
If you're ever doing this again, what I'd do is bring more with you, pillows, sleeping bag, tape to tape up the door, a generator to get a hot blanket going and a light and you could do some other stuff having one, when moving stuff open window and door to get air to circulate, then close it all up. Definitely more blankets, another heater and mattress protector etc... That mattress has to be damp
sure Irish winters are mild but in return you get no summer.

At least the hole in the ceiling can be used as a vent for the propane heater. But the sad part about it ,your losing all your heat out of it too. Your a brave man Post, staying in a creepy ,mold infested, abandoned motel with a serial killer, who escaped from that mental hospital 6 miles away, running around those parts of the woods. I can only imagine the stuff here was obsolete for the business and not worth the cost of transporting it all. Or the owners were so broke they couldn't hire the hauling for the goods at all. But this is just conjecture, it's impossible to know the real cause.
Over upstate NY there are a lot of abandoned resorts, many very large. It was just cheaper to leave everything behind.
@@jlelliotton yep. My dad has a house in the Catskills. We pass a few old places on the way up usually. That area is making a big comeback though. Some beautiful new places have opened along RT 28 and seem very crowded.
i really love your camping videos it relaxes me and helps ease my anxiety your such an angel post 10
I admire how respectful you are. Great video! 😎❤
Haha I had to laugh when you blew on the roast beef when it’s below freezing in the room!
Love the camping vids. But if you’re going to continue please get yourself a proper down sleeping bag, mat, and a small Coleman trekking stove (fits your gas canisters). A hot meal (MRE), 2 minute noodles or coffee is a lifesaver in sub zero temps.
Heck I want him to have a 357 Magnum revolver with him. And even if he does I'm glad he doesn't tell us.
Love the camping videos. Just watched your culvert one too. I'm sure many others would like more camping content too if that's what you're feeling like! Thanks for all you do!
Thank you, for the entertaining yet informative videos.
Love how you speak (and ask questions) to your viewers as if we are present in the same room with you 😀
