    Many thanks for this interview with Hermann. I always love a video where the original founders of Acorn Computers talk about ARM and the Archimedes Computer. It's just a shame they never really talk about the RISC OS Operating System that was designed to work with the original ARM chips.

    Forget Jobs, Gates and guys like Musk, this is genius. Hauser and his collaborators built something amazing that allowed these others to thrive. A friend of mine had me watch Micro Men and got me up to scratch on how profound and important Hauser, Sophie Wilson and Chris Curry are to humanity, its phenomenal, they should all rightly be billionaires but as I understand it even though they invented the ARM don't have exclusive rights to its patent, what a thing to slip through your fingers, if only they could foresee the future.

      @nebularain3338 4 года назад

      The world of patents is devious and unforgiving. It's used less now as a means of protecting an invention and more for generating profit without actually working for it. IPs are bought all the time, most recently the controversial Hungry Horace situation made the trending feeds, and it's turned into a dark and very sinister business where the real artists and inventors get fuck all.

      @@nebularain3338 Tragic. I'll have to look up the Hungry Horace situation. Cheers for the reply

      I think they're all happy with how things turned out, maybe Hauser not so much but Furber and Wilson probably care more about the impact their work had than financial gain and success in that sense.

    I watched it 1-2 years ago. Now by accident again. Still very impressive when he talks about machine learning etc but also to hear about the history.

    Furber and Wilson invented ARM.
    Herman was an investor.

      He was much more than just an investor. He was into computers and very much part of the firm. It's true he was not a hands-on engineer though.

      Without Hauser there would have been no Acorn / Furber / Wilson and ultimately no ARM.

    It is very odd to consider 1st the US market and just discard the continental European market.
    Acorn was just nowhere in continental Europe, except very lately in Germany.
    A real pity.
    Sinclair, Sugar and people at Atari or Commodore didn't make this mistake.

      Taking advantage of the EEC trade rules it would have made total sense to export to Europe with zero trade barriers.
      Acorn could have dominated. I still blame the Electron for setting the snowball rolling down hill though.

    Good nterview but disapointing that, although he was involved with on of two companies in Cambridge that were world-beating, he expresses the view that Britain is dependant upon the EU. I would not presume to tell the Austrains what their fate should be.
