I have no reason to not live in Vietnam. I met the most caring, generous people in my life in Vietnam. You should see SF in terms of crime and danger. Vietnam is amazing. Food, quality of life, beauty, fun, travel, accommodations, are so low cost. Easy to meet people and make lasting friendships- for me. Other people have their own experiences. Vietnam is a nice home base and I slow travel SE Asia. It’s my best life
I am not sure about living in the big cities in VN for a long time. In the US the suburb is quiet, very clean and very convenient so going to VN I probably want to live out in the smaller village.
1. if air is bad, then move out from Hanoi or Saigon - there are another 62 provinces mate, dont end up being a bumpkin. 2. food and water quality, then cook your own like myself.. it doesn't cost u a lot more to cook your own meals and ingredients are very affordable... no need to visit Annam Gourmet (which is very priced out for the average VNese). There are lots of local cho or sieu thi if you need them, so acquiring ingredients should be your last concern. 3. loud noise, yes the D1 and D3 even to BT are crazy.... then stay further out, D4 or D7 or Binh Duong if commute isnt a problem. 4. scams, im sorry i've never encountered any in VN.... maybe some are just bad luck, but most people from pampered countries are just a complacent bunch - so they better learn this lesson quickly. petty theft are far worse in your Venice or Paris than in VN (so dont fear monger here) and i dare say VN itself is safer with lower crime rate than most "supposedly civilised major european cities". 5. traffic is inevitable? BKK traffic is worse, (i dont want to talk about manila or jakarta) but do you even know Singapore charges u crazy money during peak hour for tolls... even when u are going home expect to pay up to almost 150K toll JUST TO GO HOME from the D1 equivalent... and that's with a shitty traffic despite the expensive toll. Be glad. 6. Vietnamese language? learn it, no excuses or two ways about this and most people are just simply lazy and FOS on why they aren't learning Tieng Viet - that is downright attitude or mindset problem. If i can speak half a dozen fluently, everyone who wants to try and stay in any country they like should put in the same effort. 7. income --- if you want to be in VN, then better be resourceful and plan WHY you want to be here even though it may be for the "CHEAPER OPTION" bait.... many fail to plan which ends up being their plan to fail. jobs are mostly for locals, so better start thinking how you can have access to funds for retirement, etc. its not the VN govt's job to care about your well being if you want to retire in their country! 8. the weather is just like most other countries in SEA, travel during summer..... come on, just plan.... get to somewhere cool during summer, vice versa. 9. timezone.... for someone who trade in european/us markets on a daily basis, you just got to plan the hours....this a no brainer. priorities. 10. visa issues - visa is tough yes, but it is good so you dont open your country to crooks who bring their shitty behaviour to the country. the tougher the better. a solid nation has to have spine; like how Singapore penalise people for eating gum - no two ways about it. you want to be in VN, you play by their rule and comply.... simple as that. why should they make life easier for people - who want things easier? being VNese means you should being gritty... and this is in the Vietnamese DNA.... VN is not for the weak or those who want it easy here. the Govt restrictions on visa and housing ownership are awesome policies that prevents itself from prostituting the country like thailand and singapore.... u really think they are better off (in the long run?) i stayed in all 3 and i can say VN has the best prospects IF the govt continues to be kept on their toes and be more competent and efficient.

Thanks Darren. This is the best useful information for the people, who are thinking about living in Vietnam (VN) for a long term. I loved the ways you stated the issues and gave the solutions to your viewers. Hopefully, VN will improve in these mentioned ten issues to compete with Thai Land. Well Said my friend. Well said!👍
I really love your videos and I subscribed. How is the air quality on the outskirts of the city, say in District 9? Is it a vast improvement over the city center?
Most foreigners are attracted to VN, TH, SE Asia for low cost of living but they often fail to account for some of the hidden costs mentioned in video such as pollution, poor food/safety standards, water quality and infrastructure which significantly impacts long term health.
The only way you can stay long term is ..1, have a Job , work permit & temporary residence card. 2 . Start a business & employ people, 3, Marry someone. Other than that…you can only stay 90 days & then leave the country & Re-apply for another Visa ( so travel light & don’t count on being granted another visa) You can’t lease an apartment long term , buy a bike etc if relying on a visa being granted. So….if you’re retired , don’t need to work, don’t need a business , don’t need more money & don’t need to marry someone…….take the Retirement Visa programmes offered by most countries elsewhere. Thailand, Philippines, Bali, Malaysia , Cambodia etc ….all have Retirement Visa options & have proven popular.
@@Klas6ixx you are welcome, hope it will help, but not every apartment building has quota for foreigners, you may need an accredited broker for the most suitable advices.
Idk why people tend to complain about language, I think if you plan to stay in any country long-term, which does not speak English as an official language, and want to deep dive into their culture, you need to learn their mother tongue, not only in Vietnam but in anywhere, Germany, France, China, Japan... Also, if you don't want too much noise, water, air pollution, traffic jam, go to smaller cities, tbh it's much better than HN or SG to live, Vietnam has 63 provinces, some of them have larger expat communities than HN and SG does
High cases of drive by motorbikes that would snatch bags, purses, and especially cell phones and people's hands. I would recommend having the bag diagonally across your body in front and to either hold your phones with two hands or not near a street.
Saigon air is fine, Hanoi usually not. Everywhere else, considerbly better. Water, Noise ,Food, Scams , Timezone, Weather can ALL be worked out. Visa and Banking are the only issues for retirees, but again , are actually workable, and shouldnt be any issues for working foreigners. So realistically foreigners with an accepting nature and the realisation that Vietnam is NOT an asian version of US, UK or Australia, should be able to generally settle after a few months acclimatizing, and learn to love Vietnam.
i always tell my wife. if you make 10K a month in the USA and can work remotely anywhere. You should always consider living there instead of buying a home that's 500K here in the USA. The house will increase to 650K in 10 years but you have to pay property tax, 1% maintenance each year, home insurance, electric bill. If I live in vietnam, I'll probably save 7K a month after living expense and child schooling until they're 10 years old and then move back to USA. Instead of losing on the mortgage cost and cost of living in the usa, I'll probably save up to 700k in 10 years. with compound interest in investing, it will probably be 1.2M
but there there's the healthcare there. if you are hit with cancer or such, then you're done. i have a family member that spent 1.2M for treatment but they have to go to Thailand as Vietnam do not treat as good. Sold 2 homes in vietnam to save her child but still lost the battle after 5 years.
Vietnam is good if you are young and single and enjoy the nightlife, coffee culture…. Not if you are in a family life as the weather, traffic, pollution will wear you down. The lack of green spaces. May sound good in theory but the reality is different
That's a good thing they don't come to VN. Chinese tourists are the worst in the world (2nd worst now cuz Indians took that title recently). They are loud, obnoxious, rude, cut in line, & have zero courtesy. So uncivilized & low class.

Yes it was pretty early and on a weekend
Hey Darren,
Can a foreigner buy properties in Vietnam?
Yes, foreigners can buy apartments in Vietnam
