To say anything less is just plain insane. Just because it’s dubbed doesn’t mean it’s automatically bad. I’d love to see these harsh critics put on half the performance these two did.
doublebean I wholeheartedly agree with this. I’ve played with both languages and both are very well done; so I don’t understand why people complain about the english being ‘boring, bland’ and all. The english dub is definitely emotional too, and I especially applaud Kyle McCarley for voicing 9S! He did so well especially in the C/D routes.

*SPOILERS!* But, believe it or not, 2B killed 9S multiple times because Yorha made a lie saying that humanity was taking refuge on the moon and that machines were the enemy/cause. However, humanity was extinct for thousands of years and Yorha doesn't have any purpose. Scanners like 9S have been finding out this truth over and over again and thats exactly why 2B was assigned to him - to kill him if he ever found out the truth. That's why she said: _"It always ends like this."_

Bcos its her duty to do so, as a matter of fact she killed 9s about 48 times. She is an executioner type, just obey orders and do it, but regardless she is broken and in despair everytime she had to do it.
Unpopular opinion. To me 2B never cared about 9S, not enough to go against the orders for him. The mission and the rules were more important to her than he was. He made her make that promisse that she'll keep killing him so he would see her again. However, she killed him many times before that. He gave all his had to her. He loved her, he protected her, he really cared about her when no one else dit, with the exception of 60. Despiste all the contempt and coldness, he was happy with her, and what she did? Killed him like he was nothing, but a merely target, just another mission to complete. She could have deserted of Yorha; he would go with her, but no. There are many androids deserters that saw that war was empty and went for more than that. The wanted a family, they wanted a real life. They had the choice, just like 2B. She made her choice. The game has endings which she deserted to become a fisherwoman or things like that, so the Idea of her leaving Yorha would not be any absurd. And until the end 9S continued being an emotional dependent of 2B. He never realized how much she hurt him, or how toxic their relatioship was. To my mind, their character development was terrible, including A2. She started "caring" about 9S too late. If she really wanted to protect him, he woudn't have gone crazy. She had many opportunities to calm him down, to talk to him, but the game just made them meet each other and just in the final meet she decided to speak something really. And that cliche happy ending in the epilogue just not make up for all the suffering and disgrace that the game force us to go through.
And that’s okay, the entire theme of the game is ‘there are more than one way to look at things, and in the end, it’s all matter of perspectives’. Granted, the story of Nier is so big that Automata by itself wouldn’t make sense to some people unless they do some digging into the lore beforehand, but a good game shouldn’t require people to do so much homework to understand it. I like the story, and I respectfully disagree, but I think I know where you’re coming from
A valid opinion, but 2b did attempt to stop the cicle before the game (altough this is only said in one of the novels), in that chapter 2b gives up and tells 9s to kill her, but he instead comits suicide, as he hould prefere to end his life than never seeing 2b again. That combined with her crying at the end of the ending A and her final action literely being sacrificing herself for 9s makes it preety clear she really cared about him, altough, like the coment above, i do agree you should not be expected to read something outside the game to fully get the story. Also A2 did try to reson with 9s before the finale, but dude had already gone full crazy after 2b's death
9s lost everyone and everything he knew and loved, then the last thing he loved was murdered right in front of him. Then he had to kill his “mom,” figure out he was his enemy, and then finds out they were designed to die. 2b started it out as a job, then she killed him repeatedly. She was actively going mad by the end and since her defenses were weak this time, she truly fell for him this time. The only reason she did it this time was to spare 9s from corruption, at his request. It’s reasonable 9s would want revenge for 2B and that 9s would be killed by her. I wouldn’t be shocked if 9s was corrupting most of those other times too.
