    I love chics on mowers. Specially good women enjoying life in the field. My wife got injured in a car accident and now I am on my own in the field. Cherish your partner and give thanks for every wonderful day you get. Thanks for sharing your memories and keeping old traditions alive.

    You addressed one problem that I saw on the first video and that is the position of the head of the sickle bar. My grandfather used a sickle mower to pull behind his tractor and we had to get it set up correctly each time it was connected. He also had a horse drawn one for when the other mower broke down and had to wait for parts. I got to run it while he was running the tractor.
    I really enjoyed your production and restoration efforts.

    Something my grandpa told me is that they used to sow clover and vetch in between crops. He said that it was good for the soil, and he was pretty smart, so there must’ve been something to it! Great job restoring your mower, and another great video! 👍✌️

      Yes, this is a common way of improving soil health. This pasture was still fairly poor in this video, but had come SOO far in improving from the state we found it!

    One of the most enjoyable things to do with a good team is mowing with a good mower - the dolly wheel is a big improvement. Have fun, Sean and Danielle! Do not forget to sow red clover into a new hayfield!

    When helping my grandfather mow years ago it was my job to walk behind with a pitch fork and pull down the hay the pitch board left. this made sure the next cut did not clog up.

    I think you should have a flat metal bar along the bottom of the swath board which should be wider than the actual board and protruding back towards the mower, this makes the swath board work much better, it's a job to explain perhaps if you look at some more pictures on here , especially Massey Ferguson mowers.

    rewatched this and very impressed. We bought a 130 yr old farm and have one of these 'stored' with other equipment and can't wait to dig it out and discover how it works.

    I would recommend getting a newer style steel grass board. You can bend the fingers easily to accommodate different conditions.

    Are you running serrated or smooth knives? I've been thinking of switching mine back to smooth. I rebuilt the bar with new knives and guards 5 or 6 years ago and converted it to bolt-on serrated. I'm not sure it wouldn't be better off with smooth. Just wondered your thoughts. Great video! I just posted up a video of my mower if you want to have a look

    • @ADifferentWay

      These were serrated knives. Unfortunately, we don’t have enough experience to tell you the benefits of both. We were happy with the result we got from these though.

    Does it really have to be two huge horses like that?

    • @ADifferentWay
      @ADifferentWay  2 года назад +2

      Those are just mid-sized horses, at 15-16 hands. They are draft cross. However, they would be the minimum size you’d want for this length of sickle bar. The size of the horses required is really dictated by bar length.

      Im afraid I can't offer much of a source, but there are a few guys on the Facebook forum "Horse Drawn Farm Equipment" who are far more experienced than us, and many of them collect parts to offer for resale. Hopefully that can help you out!

      @@ADifferentWay there is a RUclips channel called “Wow Things” out of Bangladesh or Pakistan that do one off smelting of parts in sand. You might be able to contact them and have them smelt a new part if the piece is small enough to ship. Or you may find a one-off smelter here.

      I would try Cottage Crafts Works. They sell parts for McCormick deering mowers. I would assume they ship worldwide.

    where can i get a truck for my mower

    • @ADifferentWay
      @ADifferentWay  3 года назад

      There are two Amish companies in Apple Creek, Ohio that produce the tongue truck. One is called Master Equipment and the phone number is 330-695-2603. They produce the tongue truck that I have on my equipment. A second version, produced by EZ Trail phone number 330-695-2315, is a steel tongue version. Since both of these are Amish companies, the only way to get in touch is to call and leave a phone message. Then, see if there is an Amish community near you they can ship to. Hope that helps.
