@@whompmaster it’s $75 dollar more but it also really won this challenge. It had less ice in it to begin with and this was an indoors test. You sit them outside and say 7-8 the yeti will be water but the Orion will make it 10 days. Orion does a much better job in the elements. I’ve seen other videos show this as well. One where a guy tested 28 coolers. But for $75 extra the Orion is worth it. This coming from someone that keeps a cooler 24/7
The thing that gets me is all these coolers seem to suggest rotomolded as if that is an amazing technology. That is just how the shell is created and it was originally developed to make the manufacturing of plastic items faster, cheaper and faster. In any cooler the performance is in the insulation between the outer and inner shell.
I wouldn't say Yeti had a edge at all. Because at the end of the day the Yeti still had more ice to work with. And with 2 degree difference and the Orion being the smaller cooler in a weird way I'd have to give the edge to Orion.
@@Sclassmercedes smaller space coolers faster. But more ice cools longer. Also and indoors test don’t proving much. I have a refrigerator in my house don’t need a cooler. Set them outside and see who wins. Orion does 90% of the time by 2 days. Not to knock yeti. But Orion also gives you more with your cooler and it’s supporting a smaller town business more.
Yeti had 2-3 lbs more ice in it. So temp with 2-3 lbs more ice Orion would be right there. Both over priced IMHO However Orion has the coolest designs of any cooler.
Were these coolers kept in the same place for the duration of the test? Noticed the Orion seemed to be on the side with the most sun coming in the window. This may be why the temperature is slightly higher.
The most accurate way to run this test would be to put the same amount of ice in each cooler and then measure the amount of water left after a significant amount of time had elapsed. The initial amount of air in the cooler is an incredibly negligible difference because that air is cooled down really quickly once the ice is in. The air doesn't cause the ice to melt. The heat that transfers from the outside through the cooler is what causes the ice to melt. Regardless, I think the performance differences would have been negligible. It's obvious that both coolers perform extremely well. Your conclusion would have likely been the same. People should choose between the two based on features and price.
I was cool with this video until you covered the screen on one cooler and not the other when you took the temps. Seems like a lack of transparency by a guy wearing a yeti shirt. Can't put much trust in anything after.
When you open the coolers, you're allowing air into the cooler. This traps warm air in the cooler causing ice to melt. It's almost impossible to test which one is actually better unless you keep both coolers closed.
Avery Jennings Testing coolers like the way you're saying is even worse and not an accurate reflection on real world use. Ur saying do an ice test where the whole duration of the time you're testing the coolers to keep them closed. This is not how people out on camping trips use their coolers by keeping them closed the whole time and only open them after their trip is over? What actually happens is they open up the coolers 5+ times each day to reach in and pull out drinks. So the way this person conducted this test fell in line with real world usage
Man people get pissed off whenever yeti wins one of these comparisons lol. I own 2 yetis and I have no idea how they stack up against other roto-molded coolers, but I can atleast walk in a store and see a yeti with my own eyes. If these other companies want to start selling coolers they need to get them out there.
You gotta have more dollars than sense to buy any of these over priced ice chests. Unless you fish for a living or live off grid I don't see how you can justify paying upwards of ten tens more than an igloo or coleman. Ice just isn't that expensive.
Sometimes I see these huge trailers on the side of the road where you can get a 16 lb. bad of ice for 2 bucks. With no bag you can get 20 lbs. They are rare though. However, the ice in the stores can be 4.00 plus. It's not that cheap anymore unless you make it yourself.
@@RedfishInc hahaha true! but YOLO bro! These coolers are fun and thats all it takes to make some people happy. To each their own. Some people would rather spend 100 dollars on dates with a complaining girlfriend or wife...others will see THAT as a waste of cash. But like I said, to each their own.
Yeti spends a fortune in marketing and is sold in big box stores. Orion is a small town local business that doesn’t really sell outside their area unless you order them. Orions have also maintained quality and offer more features why yeti in my opinion has actually decreased in quality over the years. Their coolers today don’t hold ice like they did 7-10 years ago.
Outdoor Ayres Proof? Just looked it up again and there’s zero evidence that you’re correct. You don’t have to like them, but you don’t have to lie either to try to prove it.
I would give the edge to Orion, especially when considering the additional accessories, bottle openers, yak attack rails etc...
Orion is also about $75.00 more than all other coolers. I'm not a Yeti guy either.

But smaller space take less to cool 😎

It would have been nice to see the original fill.

+Blam-o no they were not stored where we shot the video. they were stored side by side with no sun hitting either cooler
thank you

sorry
What was average temp in the room? I can only assume you open the coolers no more than once a day?

you could go wrong if price is an issue. I think Grizzly is the cheaper buy with just as good quality.
They don't even compare for ice retention, trust me. I have both.

I totally agree. Yeti has a good head start on the competition. Maybe some kind of contract with the stores?

there is also a nice price difference on Aamazon
$25 is not much of a difference
The Yeti is a 35 qt where the Orion is a 25 qt.... could be the reason behind the slight temp difference
+mark holland The Temp difference was so minute that I would say they are equal
mark holland the Yeti "35" is actually 26.9 quarts.
RJ Clayton The name doesn't signify quart sizes, not sure why people still don't understand this
@@booya6437 actually, yeti advertised that the yeti 35 is a 35 quart cooler......yeti is full of false advertisement
