Polls: Growing support for Hamas as Israeli army kills Palestinian in West Bank raid | DW News

- At least one Palestinian has been killed in the occupied West Bank in an Israeli army raid. That's according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
In the city of Ramallah, Molotov cocktails and other projectiles were thrown at Israeli military vehicles. The clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinians also damaged buildings and some shops.
This comes as opinion polls show Palestinian support for Hamas, which is concidered a terrorist group by multiple countries, is growing in the West Bank. The same polls indicate that the Palestinian Authority - which governs the territory - is losing support.
For more on this, we talk to Joost Hiltermann. He is the Director of the Middle East and North Africa program at the International Crisis Group. The group assists policymakers on conflict prevention. He is joining us from Brussels.
And we talk to journalist Hazem Balousha. Hazem reported from the Gaza Strip for more than a decade. He is now in Jordan's capital Amman.

Hamas has grown in popularity among Palestinians for the same reason that Netanyahu's government has grown in popularity among Israelis. This is how it has always been in war.
“Rally around the flag” is a real phenomenon, but Netanyahu is actually polling horribly in Israel
Hamas won an election 16 years ago and never held once since. The people don't seem to ever complain to a camera about getting their free and fair elections back.
So why are we acting like the people only support them now? The Palestinians are clearly happy in their terrorist state, Western media just needs to come around to the reality of the situation.

Netanyahu’s polling has tanked. Israelis overwhelmingly support destroying Hamas. (Which is their actual goal, not killing civilians. But most want to destroy Hamas badly enough that they’re willing to kill civilians to do it.) However, Israelis don’t support Netanyahu. Pikachu face: no one.
Gaza was not occupied, what explains the incredible amount of arsenal that has been discovered, border controls and all. If by "occupation" the interviewee means "Israel proper", well, they are doomed. If he means the West Bank, that's another issue (that also won't be solved because if the West Bank was like Gaza, Israel, as a State, wouldn't be able to exist: at some point in the border Israel is merely 14 km and it would be cut in two if they tried some attack like Hamas did on October 07).
Whoever that drew the map divide made it impossible for a strategic point of view for Israel, especially with a hostile neighbor. That's also why the Golan Heights are occupied: Israel is too small a territory to have even the slightest advantage in a first push.
🤡
Israel may not have been in Gaza since 2005, but they controlled who and what came and out.
@@pogo1140 (not my post):
Yes, they could leave yet:
They need to secure visas from the countries that they wish to visit. This can be challenging since there are only a couple of international governments who maintain offices in the Gaza Strip.
Should a Palestinian need to visit a foreign embassy in Israel or in Egypt for a visa interview, they need to apply to Israel or to Egypt to enter the countries for that visa interview. Visa interviews for the United States, for instance, are held at the U.S. consular offices in Jerusalem. Securing approval to enter Israel from Gaza is not easy to secure and many people who apply for this entry permit are denied. So it can be very difficult.
There are a number of countries that allow Palestinians to enter them for general tourism without a visa, but many, many countries require advance application for Palestinians. Visa applications can often be denied without explanation.
So yes, Palestinians could leave Gaza if they have organized a passport, visas, and travel documents to transit Israel or Egypt, but the process of securing all of these documents can be very, very challenging.
God bless and protect Israel and the IDF ...
