2023 REWIND - No Te Here O Te Hiro'a Drummers

2023 was a phenomenal year for us with our drummers having traveled all over the US state and world! Firstly my beginner and intermediate drumming groups did an awesome job at this years Summer and Winter Ho'ike, so proud of their progress. We had so many fun Jam Sessions this year with our brothers Macrus Amen of Tamari'i Mata'irea, Kristopher Lee of O Hina'aro Nui, John Sangalang of Tiare Hinano, Tila Case of Hiva Katoa, and Keanu Asuega of Lokelani's ROTI - not to mention Ofa, Nick, and Brandon jamming out with One Noa Tatou & Hei Tahiti drummers. Our competition team joined up with Lokelani's ROTI at Kiki Raina Merced Fete taking 1st. We continued this ball rolling by joining up with the infamous Sefa Pumphrey (Sefadrums) to run house drumming at Te Ori Here Tahitian Dance Competition in southern California. Ofa, Brandon, and Nick traveled to New York to participate with Sefa and Hiva Katoa's drummers at their very first Heiva Pasifika Tahitian Dance Competition in the east coast, The trio also held a workshop for Halau Kalama in Aurora, Colorado. Ofa traveled with his love Kanani to do multiple workshops in Mexico and Hawaii including playing music for Sefa Pumphrey's group in Tahiti alongside Mevina. We joined up with my mentor Junior a.k.a Boy Temanaha of Te Vai Ura Nui and his drummers for house drumming at A Taste of Tahiti solo competition in Temecula, CA. Brandon joined up with Hiva Katoa at this years PIFA of San Diego. Our competition drum team did an exhibition on this years Heiva i San Francisco virtual Tahitian competition. AB landed the job of Percussion Director for University Highschool of Music here in Fresno where we did workshops for her students to help jumpstart there very first Tahitian drumming clinic in the central valley. Our biggest accomplishment this year was taking 1st at Tahiti Fete of San Jose, which is considered by many to be the biggest Tahitian dance, drum, and music competition in the world outside of Tahiti.
Just an all-around wonderful year for us and we're all so blessed to be thriving in something that we love to do, a journey 30+ years in the making.
