And it's a blessing to know that there are always interesting and dedicated young players emerging somewhere, discovering how enjoyable and expressive the guitar can be in skilled hands and played from the heart! Let's keep it going!
I love that Slash never felt he had to mimic EVH in his time, since that was the thing to do in the ‘80s if you were in a rock or metal band. He’s probably my favorite post ‘70s rock guitarist. He doesn’t really over do-it.
No doubt. The "subtle" finger from LP by way of adjusting his glasses after that was epic. Slash can hang with anybody apparently, although BB made him nervous. haha
Some of the most enjoyable playing by Slash I've heard. Playing quietly actually amplifies the impact of his playing by way of increased subtly and dynamics.

See, Slash...he get’s it 😎 he plays to match his group and the song. He let’s Les shine and shines himself as well. And he plays what’s being played while he’s in it. Versatile of course, but that’s a big part of what being a true musician is all about. Well done fellas, and you can tell they really enjoyed that moment. 🤘👍
That was beautiful. I personally think it sounded great, opposing what some say below. It had a really nice jazz blues feel to it and they had a great connection
My mom sings and her husband plays blues guitar. They both had the opportunity to perform on stage with Les at his club a few years before his passing.
Sweet symphony of sound! Never realized Slash had it like that. You can tell they admire each other. Les is so happy. That 5:10-5:13 mark was righteous!
Truth be told its unlikely the old boy had heard much of slashes work, they came from very different generations. But Les Paul just loved music, and was always happy to let a young pup have some limelight, so lots of respect from the old boy, and obviously a guy like Slash would have revered Les Paul.
Before Les started losing dexterity and motion in his hands and fingers he was amazing to watch play. His style was incredible and you can say he was an early precursor to shredding.
Sm-o-o-o-o-th. I just clicked over from the video of Zakk & Les (he was out of his league). Slash is matching the style, timbre , rhythm and tone of both Les and the song. Just look at how engaged Les is throughout the tune.
Hi Chris, I live in SE Wisconsin and drive through Waukesha from time to time. Been a big Les fan since childhood as my parents had Les Paul & Mary Ford albums (I have them now). 'Had to go to the museum when it opened. Speaking of Waukesha, are you familiar with Wisconsin's other electric guitar virtuoso, Greg Koch? He is a phenomenal player of multiple genres. Must be something in the local water to produce such talent over multiple generations. If it wasn't for the eleventh hour, I wouldn't get anything done.
What a musical goldmine this collection is of all of Les`s pals joining him onstage. Not only is it loose and filled with funny banter, there are musical moments that are truly heaven on earth to me. Real magic happens at times that couldn't be captured in any other way but through raw unrehearsed performances such as these. Thanks for these uploads. Pure gold!
I swear I hear these guys and I cant stop getting teary eye, Les Paul RIP , GNR always my Fav all time fav band but to see Slash with the Master him self and jam like that, SUBLIME
The best I ever heard Slash play. He's also clean and doesn't have 100w Marshall Jubilees set on eleven. With GNR he had to go with the flow, but we're hearing his real playing here. Good job Slash, and in front of a legend!!!
Saul Hudson (Slash) is one hell of a rocker, but its obvious this is where hes at home. blues is typicaly played 3 fingered whis is his signature style of pickin. real talent this huy has, matched by very few in the industry.
If I can be have as pleasant and fun Les is at that age I’ll be happy. What a fantastic brilliant man. Just a joy to be around. Not many people like around anymore.
From all the "Les Paul with ..." videos this is the only one were the guest knew how to and then actualy was able to *play* with Les Paul. Mad respect Slash, mad respect.
I've been on a few forums or vidoes where Slash gets panned a lot. Seems like its the cool thing to do, but having grown up with GNR and seeing him play, we are lucky to have him in our generation. He's one of the best to hit the seen post british invasion for sure.
2 legends, one that endorsed and help build and design Gibson's first electric guitar, and one that (to me,, growing up) made the Gibson Les Paul electric guitar more iconic than Les Paul did lol
Parker Jansen what the fuck is the point in you sounding like a smart-mouthed pre-teen? I said "post-seventies" meaning 80's, 90's, 2000's, and present. Post-seventies means anything that came AFTER the 70's. That includes eras past the 80's as well. So yes, that's the point in me saying "post-seventies". Get it?

He's one of those guys that's just himself. He truly loves playing the guitar and will never stop. He's also quite humble and intelligent. - This coming from someone who isn't even a fan. I just have a respect for the guy.
i agree, a lot of people say slash is an overrated player because he doesn't sweep or shred like eric johnson for example (not bashing eric), but he plays with such feeling and he plays how he feels and his sound is recognisable the first note he plays. i've turned on the radio before and snakepit was playing, and although i didn't recognise the song i knew straight away it was slash.
Never been a huge Slash fan but I will say, he can play the fuck outta some blues. Damn!..........which I guess that should have been obvious to me. I have heard plenty of Guns and velvet
This reminds me of an afternoon in the college music room/caravan 30 years ago watching my friend Kenwyn House (of 'Reef' notoriety) jamming with local jazz/classical guitarist (and my then guitar teacher) Pat Benham, and a load of stoned students and (probably more straightheaded) staff just going "Woooaaah, this is something magical!!"! Ken was playing Bruno's Epiphone LP copy and Pat my Columbus LP Jr copy, both through a big old HH combo using a Tascam cassette four track for the desk!! Happy Daze!! :-D
Les was truly havin a good time in this clip, that didn’t always happen 😳. Lots of fun to watch, Slash has a good blues background that translates well to his rock playin. He was taking Les back to the old days when he would burn up the neck.
Can only hope anyone who has ever owned an electric guitar, especially a Les Paul, can truly respect this genius. I swear to God, I had a Les Paul that was underwater due to a flood. Once I dried it out, it was as good as new.
Slash sounds great here with Les. I always think its cool seeing Les play with all of these rock guys it almost seems like there sitting down with there guitar teacher to jam they try there best to impress him and he can out do them with a single lick.
"Yeah, hello Slash. This is Les...........yeah Les Paul. Hey listen, I'm having a small jam session in my basement tonight and all the cool cats are coming over. Would you be interested in coming over to help out?" I'm certain that's how that phone conversation started.

Search for "Les Paul LIVE - and magnificent! " here on RUclips. When Les Paul was younger Les Paul was technically way better than Slash. Not to diminish Slash abilities but Les was on a completely different level. Check it out. ;)
Bub ba Well he's old here and can barely play. In his prime he could really shred before the term was invented. Although I think shred would be the wrong term since he played beautiful melodies in contrast what we know today as shred.
EbonyPope Why is everything about competition. Who's better you or this guy? .... Who gives a fuck. If you think that's what music is about you're absolutely wrong. This is 2 awesome musicians jamming.
I didn't say that it is about competition. I said Les Paul was so much better back then. In this video he is just a shadow of his former self. My abilities don't have anything to do with my judgment. Take a look at the link i posted and you will see how magnificent Les was. You're taking my critique way to personal.

Yea it is the same with Eric Johnson
The very 1st time I've heard a comment such as yours! Very nice indeed! Well put.
Jimmy Page is why
You can tell how much Les Paul likes Slash’s playing. You can always tell. He really liked him.
At 5:00 Les tried to end the tune and Slash refuses to end it. Les gave him a look like -- "WTF did you not hear me try to end it??" lol
Haha flipped him off too lol
Spinal Tap moment.
It's rare to see Les have a conversation through his guitar with another. Him and Slash were on fire!
especially at the 5:13 mark! magic moment right there
No doubt. The "subtle" finger from LP by way of adjusting his glasses after that was epic. Slash can hang with anybody apparently, although BB made him nervous. haha

Slash plays the blues very, very well. He conjures up Page styled licks along with the true masters. Well done, sir!
I think Les wore the same shirt every time I saw him at the Iridium. And he was always just as full of smiles and good humor along with great music!

I’m mean yea it’s a brave move but it also helps to distort the sound of the string since most Les Paul guitars don’t have a tremolo arm.

Sorry for the reply to old post, but I do agree Les was a precursor to shredding, along with, Mr. Chet Atkins

His fireworks on How High are phenomenal - but I love the maturity & confidence in these later years (3:30 for example - just 2 perfect notes)

Jimmy B Agreed. This was so much better than what Zakk did with Les. Smooth as a muthafucka.
Zakk was a disrepectful tool during the whole thing and just did his mindless penta shred. This Slash fellow seems to know the score
Jimmy B slash fits in a lot better than zakk because he's more bluesy and zakk is more hard rock.
