@@NeoZurg Honestly, IDW Star Saber was an unpleasant and wholly uninteresting presence who actively dragged down every appearance of his and had no role beyond lackluster fight scenes and killing off more likeable characters, and even if he were redesigned and renamed to Swordotron, that would still have been the case.
so original optimal optimus was something you had to be there for. It was the first Beast Wars toy bigger than an Ultra. He was also the first really chunky boxy design and the randomish colors on that made him sort of take on an industrial aesthetic, especially with all the orange. Vehicle modes were never really meant to be real vehicles on transmetals, more like the animal mode's special moves, so having two was pretty cool.. It was sort of the Powermaster Prime of that generation.

This toy almost got me back into collecting Transformers when it came out but I couldn't afford it. Now I definitely can't afford it. One day maybe. I still love my original optimal Optimus though. The colours are weird but it was the 90s man. Everyone was just going wild. Going ape even. Also, the way the guns light up on that one is beautiful.
I now kinda want this figure now. The paint job is pretty much, amazing. The big Primal mode just looks cool, especially with the crown. The throne and mace seems cool. But the cargo ship… yes
I was pretty lucky to buy what I'm pretty sure was the ONLY PotP Optimal Optimus in my city. He was launched a wave early with no fanfare, had a grand total of ONE on the shelves at ONE retailer and was never restocked ever again I love him. If I had one complaint (and it's a minor one I reckon) it's that the little Optimus Primal should've been his Transmetal 1 body. The gimmick of the leader class was these characters going from their previous form to their "Prime" form, but OpOp came from a Transmetal 1 Optimus, not his Cybertronian form! The dark blues of TM Primal would've blended better with OpOp than the season 1 colours, and would've been more cohesive. But it hasn't soured my enjoyment of the toy. (Yeah the cargo ship's a bit unimaginitive and he lacks his car mode, but it's clear PotP was working with a severely reduced budget. I'm happy with what we got, really.)
I hated that there was a full transformer hanging off the back of his full robot mode so I pushed out the metal pin that separates the little Primal from the cockpit kibble. Only time I've ever dismantled a Transformer like that, and it hurt, but both Primals are better for it imo and they can be displayed at the same time!
The original never interested me. But that all black repaint was very desirable. But sadly, I skipped on the pre-order. Only last year did I finally decide to import it from Japan. At 15k yen shipped, it was the cheapest option. No regret because that Kong is KING!

I used to play with a Second hand Transmetal Optimal Primal as a very short Child, and let me tell you. The stupid shuttle backpack is the best part of the original figure, no bias there. Truly the best quality of Optimal, is the Clunky back pack. That gets in the way of all posing and makes the back of the separated gorilla mode terrible. You can have Optimal Primal without his camping backpack

When I saw Hasbro was remaking Optimal Optimus, I can only say I was interested but not won over. I had the original toy from the 90's. All I could say about it was that, "It's a toy." To me, it never looked good in any mode. I tried and tried to get a fan mode to look good. I even made one that Optimus Minor could ride on. Still, every mode looked like an afterthought. And this new release even removed the ground vehicle mode. Yeah you can buy some aftermarket parts and make the mode, but it was just...sad. Hasbro could have made a fantastic update to this figure by correcting the original, but dropped the ball instead. GREAT REVIEW THOUGH! I do like this color scheme too. But wasn't this a SDCC exclusive and not a mass market retail release?

Looks great, partly because it abandons the whole organic fur thing, but I'm confused by how many modes there are. Do I count all of them or are some of them half modes or what? Maths was never my robot mode.
I still have the _original_ Optimal Optimus floating around somewhere, so I skipped on this. Well, that and I think them trying to force two robots into a figure that was originally one is kinda daft and looks a bit rubbish. I have the "Powermaster" Prime from this line, and forever keep him in his Prime mode. The Orion Pax _robot_ is sort've alright, even though he has back kibble, but his so-called 'truck' mode really gets a good laugh outta me. So yeah, I passed hard on this. Especially since he doesn't have his Armored ATV mode. He also lacks that space in his chest, so I can't store a Twizzlers for later. And really, who wants something like that?
I would just like you to know that despite strongly disliking Transformers that turn into anything ape-like (it's like a car turning into an older car), I still watch all of your videos because that's just how loveable you are.
Sadly/Luckily it wasn't Primal Prime colors so I could skip it. I have the original Op Op and its good still. But a Primal Prime version of any modern Op Op toy? It is what I need and want since I never got the original one. Didn't want to double dip on a mold you see.
hard agree on the colours, never like what the transmetal optimi were up to. not to be a spinister customizer about it, but i much prefer him in black, it’s just a lot more cohesive. the smaller primal feels a bit redundant on this one, since it was originally meant so you could have two different looks for him, but i still appreciate the vibe overall.

Honestly, the whole surfboard thing turned me off from buying this set. It's just so stupid man. They couldn't have made Primal turn into a money and then had the Optimal Optimus part be like a shell that you slot Primal into? I mean for Rodimus (yes I have POTP Rodimus Unicronus) they had it where Hot Rod became the chest of Rodimus and the trailer parts became the upgrade. I mean, they couldn't just have made Primal slot into a shell that allowed the guns to stick out?

I’d almost have liked for Arcee to win, out of sheer curiosity for what the toy would’ve been like.
Given the bio references IDW backstory of the character. the smaller bot would modify G1 Arcee, and the evolution form would be a Galvatron form.

I have to say that although I'm not a BW fan, being very much in the 'Trukk' camp, this thing looks pretty awesome.
Optimus Primal is a separate character to Optimus Prime. His existence does not change what Prime’s alt more is.
