The story is a mix of the present and flashbacks. In the anime they don’t make that very clear but in the past Wei WuXian (Wei Ying) was a disciple at the Gusulan sect (aka the cloud recesses) when he was 15 for three months along with Jiang Cheng (his “brother” and heir to the Yunmeng Jiang sect, Wei WuXian was adopted), and other disciples from other sects. Lan WangJi (Lan Zhan) has a brother named Lan Xichen and both were born and raised in the cloud recesses. Lan Wangji seemed to hate Wei WuXian for no reason but that eventually changed with time (wink wink). I think by the time WWX was 20 he had officially become the Yiling Patriarch, using his ghost flute Chenqing to raise the dead and have them do his bidding. I won’t spoil but some shit went down and he was eventually killed. Present day (13 years later) WWX was “reborn” I guess in Mo Xuanyu’s body, a known “cutsleeve” (homosexual) and lunatic. Once WWX figured that out he played the part so no one would suspect that the Yiling Patriarch had reincarnated and kill him a second time. Lan Wangji found him by coincidence took him back to the Cloud Recesses against WWXs will. The relationships between all the characters can also get REALLY confusing so I’ll try to give u the basics: Mo Xuanyu is the son of Jin Guangshan and is also the uncle of Jin Ling. Wei WuXian is the adopted son of the Jiang sect and since he’s Jiang Cheng’s adopted brother I guess that makes Jin Ling his nephew?? As Mo Xuanyu AND as Wei WuXian lol Jiang Cheng’s sister is named Jiang Yanli. She was married to Jin Zixuan and Jin Ling was their child. Lan WangJi has a brother named Lan Xichen. Their mother and father are both dead so their uncle runs the Recesses. His name is Lan Qiren. There’s also Lan Jingyi and Lan Sizhui. These two are just Lan sect disciples and they’re about 15 or 16. They’re not related to anyone important by blood but they’re always around. They also look similar... Jingyi is the one with the long side bang and Sizhui is the one with the “swoosh”. You’ll understand if you see a pic of him. ANYWAYS. I know this was lengthy af but honestly if you want to know more either check out the wiki or read the novel (highly recommended). The novel is long but it’s worth it. The anime cuts stuff out, not saying it’s bad but it’s just different. I’ll give you a link to the novel. bro i'm bout cry the manwha ended not long ago and i can just UGGH how do i explain this i can feel all the emotions that they both went through as the song progess like the manwha not being able to live without each other and waits for one before moving on as happyness was at frist going then WHAM sadness hits like a truck when lan zhan waited for wei wuxain and how lonely he was playing his part waiting then suddenly gets calm as the flute calms down the Guqin wei wuxain calming lan zhan as they finally meet again- bro this probually so confusing sense i can't spell rn bro 💀 anyways uuum meeting again the song could finally be finshed ending togather. 😭😭 MHMM but thanks for this it was lovely
I can totally feel this (and the not being able to spell HAHAHA). It's bittersweet that the manhua was ended already, but it's comforting that there's a great community to share the joy and sadness of this story
