The car that Irvan drove was the exact same that Davey used in 1991. It was also purposed into a Taurus for Dale Jarrett and it was last used in 2001. The car is on possession of Warbirds museum in Arizona as an 88 Taurus.
More power? Really? I stopped following NASCAR in 2012 and at that point there had more power than in 1994 I think. But I don't know what happenend in terms of engines after 2012.
@@armorgeddon exactly ...in 2012 they had close to 850hp in 93 they had 7 to 750 and in 2016 when I stopped following they got those new shit motors, 550hp and 650 in short tracks and road courses and still the same now. Back in the 80s and 90s the cars just sounded and looked so much better
@@chrisb6049 Was a big 28 fan myself at that time, and agree. The period from late 93 to the injury in 94 was the car's strongest period. Ernie before the injury, with the Yates crew, would have kept Dale at 6.
Yates Racing was probably one of the most unlucky Nascar teams ever, they had some good cars and drivers that always got screwed somehow. Davey Allison had his best year and should have won the 1992 title and had to much bad luck, then the he;icopter crash. Irvan should have won the 1994 tittle and had that bad wreck. Ricky Rudd should have won several more races than he did. Besides the 1999 Jarrett year they had a lot of troubles. It's a shame Yates is not competing today.
One of my favorite things to do is find an old Winston Cup from the good Ol' days and listen to it whilst playing NASCAR 15'. I just wish NASCAR 15 had this lay out of Sanoma.
One of the few races that actually was cloudy for the entire race - 2001 and 2013 are the other ones if memory serves correctly. The race in 2005 started cloudy but clear skies arrived later on for the majority of the race.
Before anyone watches this race: Watch the awesome intro to this race they left out here on this upload at end of this video that will show up in the "YOU SHOULD WATCH" at the end
Yes, it is, but sadly, Robert Yates made his decision to get out of NASCAR after the 2007 season and folded the 88 team after that season was over. He had folded the 28 team after the 2002 season, but in the years before that, as you said, Yates Racing ran into many issues.
Geoff Bodine was always my driver but I liked Lake Speed. I always pulled for those guys, especially when he was in his #83. Guys like him, Marcis, Means McDuffie, Cowart I always followed them hoping they would get a good run.
I've been to several races here, and they reconfigured to (1) make it easier for the fans to see almost all the way around the course (they knocked down the hill in the carousel turn), and (2) create additional passing/braking zones. Before they reconfigured, the hairpin before the start/finish was about the only place you could pass.
Indy Car used turns 4,5 and 6 when they raced here (last race was 2018), but turn 9 was cut out for a straight shot/double 90 degree turn , then they used a shorter hairpin to get a straight shot down to the start/finish line

I miss This version of Sears Point Raceway with the pedestrian bridges, hills and the configuration.
Woo! nascar will run this layout in 2019 for sonoma's 50 year anniversary
Really?...Would be awesome
That track had so much more character back then and I loved racing on it in NASCAR Racing, the PC simulation.
The cars had more character also, and more power.

No lie there man. If Davey hadn't gotten killed, Jeff Gordon would have about half the stats he holds today.
rebelracing88 Irvan drove that car better.

rebelracing88 no way , Gordon should have 7 titles if not for the dam chase.
@@chrisb6049 you’re clueless

I remember Irvan was having a stellar year in 1994.
He was neck and neck with Earnhardt until his Michigan crash.
It's a classic! Cool!

When Irvan had a good car he crushed the competition like nobody else. This race, Charlotte in 1993, Talladega 1992 from a lap down.
Never thought i’d see a cloudy race at Sonoma. Probably because this race was in May instead of the usual June
I've always wondered what they used to get Cope's and John Krebs cars outta there after the race.
Ernie Irvan was always one my favorite drivers!!! Too bad he never, especially 1994 couldn't win the championship 2:06:13
Yates won here with Dave Allison, Ernie Irvan, and Ricky Rudd. All in the #28.
Irvan was the best road racer there was back then. Hands down the best.
@@traviscliff7059 Mark Martin was right up there, too.
23:19 There's a name you don't associate with road racing, Jeff Gordon. Jeff ends his career with 9 road course wins lol
Yep, so weird to hear someone say that lol

Technically the 28 team became the 38 team after 2002
1:18:51 Wow! Look at that generic cardboard box lol Benny is using so he can see the TV to call the race on
23:54 Lake Speed came into this race 5th in the point standings
The Bud Moore car was pretty solid through the early 90’s

It was called by benny Parsons great commentator
01:19:11 I think the only thing i remember watching this race back when i was 12 was laughing my ass off at Bennys rig.
Any idea why they shortened the racetrack and got rid of those inner turns?

Thought John Krebs killed himself in this race, this looked so violent, its almost felt like his car fell off a coffee table.
Screw Nascar. There was no reason to build that short chute. The racing on the old circuit was just fine.
The old Sears Point raceway was much better before Smith flattened the entire area
Ernie Irvan's last win until 1996
The back on the car of Lake Speed is completely defonced.
24:09 good crash anyway
