Enoshima is a small island located off the Shōnan coast of Japan's Kanagawa Prefecture. It is most known for the Enoshima Shrine, which features statues of the Buddhist deity Benzaiten. It also has the Enospa hot springs and the 19th-century English-style Samuel Cocking Garden, which includes the Sea Candle lighthouse. The Iwaya Caves include tidal pools and Buddhist monuments. Popular mainland beaches overlook the island.

Enoshima is the perfect place for a pleasant beach day trip near Tokyo. Enoshima, a little island west of Kamakura, has it all: shrines, delicious seafood, panoramic views of Mt. Fuji, and caverns. The island is only an hour's train ride from Shinjuku and can easily fill your day with walking, street cuisine, and local attractions. If you want to go further afield, you can combine it with a day excursion to Kamakura, also known as 'little Kyoto'.
