Hakyeon really came for blood this time, like he always does but he's really not playing this comeback. It's a song that after another listen you really get hooked I feel like. Sad this concept went over so many heads because it's really so cool and even the lyrics are fitting to the story itself. Great reaction!
Nichole Mac I think the MV / sets needed just a bit more oomph to bring the concept to light. Normally VIXX brings a very clear concept in their MVs with no shyness in delivering it but with this one it seemed very subtle, almost too subtle. They didn't have to be obvious but I dunno, I wanted more with the MV, I felt the choreo and their emotion captivated me more than the visual part of the concept/MV. The song is perfect as is though and yes Hakyeon killed me.
The level of detail is actually incredible. Yeah maybe if MV connected it a little more? Regardless, I am in LOVE with this comeback. Everything is so aesthetically pleasing!!!
*3 seconds in* Umu: "piano! That's a cool looking piano!" Me: *face palm* "there's a whole snacc of a man sitting there and umu commenting on the piano. The difference between you and me umu my dear"
The pre-chorus is actually one of my favorite things about the song. The song is definitely supposed to be more of a vibe than a in your face bop. I find myself listening to it on repeat.
Same about the prechorus. Its so good. And I agree that Scentist as a whole is more vibey than boppy. It's lowkey but really intense and I love that. Also the stage is absolute killer
That's exactly how I feel too. I know some people don't really prefer it as the title track, but I think for the type of group that VIXX is (clearly a concept group) it works so well in their favor. I also love this comeback because of the LINE DISTRIBUTION. This is clearly a testament to how much Hyuk and Hongbin have grown as vocalists. P.S.- N had me so shook for this entire video lol
Finally someone understands me. I love this song because of pre-chorus. I like it so much and can listen just this part on repeat. And I didn’t like chorus that much
There’s more details with the vocals in this release especially with members that don’t normally get lines like hongbin and hyuk and swapping the chorus between members and the fast singing/rapping with the main vocals I like there trying new singing styles
The piano is not really a piano... I mean.. U see bottles of liquid where the strings of he piano should be... And the liquid seem to be connected to the keys.. Playing the piano is kinda like a metaphor for perfume making.. Like.. musical chords are 3 different notes that work tgt to create a new note(?) (I dont study music so i dont know the technical terms) Perfumes are also a combination of various scents that complement each other.. in the end they create a special unique scent... When i realised that.. i was legit, mindblown..
I totally agree with what you say about their line distribution of this song that it was designed to distribute lines more fairly to the members. One another evidence to it, as you caught while your first listening, is the lower range of the song than their past title songs that usually only the two main vocalists had to take.
The N and Ken prechorus thing is my favourite part for me actually^^ I´m happy it´s not a too loud song, if you know what I mean. A lot of songs are so 'loud' that my head gets tired
Okay. At first, I was also too focused on the MV that I can't follow the music at all. (Visuals is too much for my eyes) and I have to listen to it for few times so I could really listen to the song. I was confused by the song and I don't know why but now that you explained it, I guess I started to realized what's really going on and why does it makes me feel confused. It's so different to what I usually hear from Vixx but hey! We're talking about Vixx and they always surprised us. So, thank you for uploading this reaction/review. We really need this type of videos to understand more about the music.
I understand what you mean by the drop not being quite a drop. I think they weren't going for "hype" nor "energy" with the song (I even dare to say the whole concept of the album). So since the song is about how a scent is wrapped around you, seeps into you, lures you in and how willing you are to let it take control over you, the words that come to mind are "smoldering intensity". AND I'M ALL FOR SMOLDERING INTENSITY, but I mean, the drop isn't a drop maybe because it isn't supposed to be one. I wish we could get some of the producers' word on it! But anyway, to me it feels more like water breaking through a dam. Meaning: horizontal, not vertical like a drop. I hope that makes sense lol that's how I visualize it. *ARE YOU GOING TO UPLOAD AN EAU DE VIXX REACTION/REVIEW??*
Liquid Luck omg I was thinking of how the music was written as if a bottle spilled over! How "heady" the harmony and syncopated melodies were reminded me literally of a perfume taking over a room and then evaporating in the end.
Honestly, I didn't quite like the song and beats the first time listening to it. However, after 2-3 times of listens, I started to get hooked and now I'm totally falling for this song. It just won't leave my head.
Vixx songs always like tat, like shangri-la also not very like it when first time listening, but after few times repeated, just hooked on it & fall for it, really dunno why.
I think because they didn't make catchy song, instead making quality musics for long term listening so you can listen to them many times after that without getting easily tired. 😅 That's what I think at least
I think what i've seen about vixx so far, is that they don't really go with 'drops' much. Like although there are 'drops' its not like epic. And... i think im okay with that. I think it fits with their style of not conforming to the trend. So in this song, instead of creating a big 'drop', what they do is change the beat emphasis, giving a body roll feel instead going ham. WHICH I LOVE. because tbh im too chill hahha so i don't exactly listen to hype music. Also, i know we say it for every song of vixx's but, i loooveee how they make it more 'surround soundy.' They do something with the backing that makes the song a lot more full despite only one person singing. Just wanted to point out how much we take this for granted because actually, we see groups relying on backing vocals of the group, or really dense instrumental sometimes. so maybe im just saying vixx is like the A-OK perfect group for me heheh
To my knowledge the book theory is just a theory made on the basis of some teaser pictures and the assumption that this would be a dark concept. I don't think VIXX or Jellyfish has said that it's true. So I'm just going to see it as VIXX making perfumes and having some childhood memories. I like Scentist, it's got loads of Hongbin. :D
maybe cool video idea?: have people react to the lyric versions of the title track, secondary promotional track (yknow, the one they do on music shows but it doesn't have a mv), and a b-side track (probably the most musically complex one?) and have them guess which is which
We had to read The Perfume in school and I loved it and held my best presentation ever about the main character so it is kind of special to me. I got very excited because you mentioned it. [Seriously the plot sounds weird but the book is very interesting and well written. Especially because it focuses on smell so much but it is like written smell? But you can imagine it so well? Sorry I just really like this book.]
I didn't feel the song at first listen but after listening a few more times it kinda grew on me. The album itself is very different from VIXX's usual style but still very VIXX. Scentist has a slight trendy touch to it but because it's Vixx it has that rhythm of their's so maybe that's why at first listen it doesn't really stand out. I like how they are always experimenting and the fact that Leo and Ken rapped proves it.Overall the album is pretty laid back and chill from their usual intense stuff.
I really liked you did a explanation about every part of the song. It helped me to listen to things I didn't listen before ^^ I hope you have some time to make a first listen to EAU DE VIXX. I want to know what you think about all the songs.
Thanks for taking the time on this one, I had the same thoughts (melody kind of simple, but lots of layers, and really interesting that they are all singing low) so I was really curious to find out what you'd have to say. Appreciate that you took the time to listen and point out the production details!
UHUHU. Umu! I think you would really appreciate this concept more if you read the the book or at least watched the movie. I've watched the movie adaptation of the book and I noticed that there are some objects in the music video that are references to the movie (like that cool-looking piano and the rose petals and those bags filled with liquid). Perfume: The Story of a Murderer is one of my favorite movies of all time and I'm so stoked VIXX got some inspiration from this. So I would really recommend fans to read the book or watch the movie to completely appreciate this masterpiece created by VIXX. :D
About the pre-chorus thing you said, I think if the vocal line were to also be hype, the chorus wouldn't have an impact since it's kinda chill. I think it was the perfect amount of hype for a chorus like that, I don't know if you (or anyone) agrees. I'm absolutely in love with this song, holy hell.
It was cool hearing the melodic and musical breakdown. This is a different approach for VIXX--usually the main vocalists (Leo and Ken my biases) do the chorus or most of the song and it should be noted they usually sing MUCH higher towards the top of their registers. So to give a more equal line distribution and have Hongbin lead on the main chorus along with Hyuk with Ken in the background--Keo (Leo and Ken) had to tone it down--they are singing lower than usual and kind of rap-singing too which I enjoyed that part it actually made up for the lack of modulation that the reviewer was hoping for. But most VIXX songs typically have Leo do a higher note (and Ken adlib here and there). It was refreshing to hear something different imo and the song does not sound pop at all if the synth is taken out-- it sounds like contemporary r&b which is probably why I like it more than their previous lead singles since Chained Up. Shangri-La was nice too but this was great for line distribution. The other songs on the album are really great to hear as well! Everyone had their shine basically and Hyuk really improved!
Odd that neither Umu nor any of the comments have mentioned the reggae in the chorus. Imho the drop is into a dub feel that's like getting dunked in a phat vat of bass. My guess is that Umu is missing their intent because she's unfamiliar with the source. Umu - I doubt you have time to read the comments but if you do, listen to some 70's - 80's dub. There are many diff artists and I'm no expert but Linton Kwesi Johnson's "LKJ in Dub" is one of my faves: ruclips.net/p/PLDhhneqBe3ANaMETxu1jVSqpAMMCVgg_J
PunkCabaretDoll Glad you liked it. I wasn't trying to point out that album as a specific influence, it's just a personal fave. Dub was very influential on a lot of music back in the late 70's, from punk like The Clash to club music and pre-hip hop rap. The dub feel of reggae on molasses is what VIXX was going for I think.
I agree. That same vibe was on their song "The Closer" during the hook. It kinda reminded me of some of Sting (the 80's singer) and The Police. Check out "Wrapped Around Your Finger" by The Police. Take a listen & tell me if you think the same. Also, "Shangri-la" & this song can be layered right on top of each other.
Queen Seven-Bey Thanks for recommending Shangri-la and The Closer -I've been lax and have ignored VIXX up til now. The Police was heavily influenced by reggae and dub and brought those sounds into new wave. In that same spirit, Kpop is brilliant at blending various musical ideas to create something uniquely their own and dub seems to be part of VIXX's mix. Personally, I think dub is Miles Davis applied to reggae, just like disco is Miles applied to r&b/pop dance music. The repercussions of Miles going electric have been enormous.
Oh my God...your reaction is spot on. I thought thoroughly on the music and agree with your comments on the musicality of the arrangements in the music and them vocals that killed me 😆
you are me every time I see N XD anw thank you for the great reaction! i love how you get all technical and all in each of ur reactions, i enjoy to listen to everything ^^
UMU I REALLY REALLY LIKE WATCHING YOUR REACTION! Besides you are a starlight, you never fail in mentioning any music element that I don't realize or know it! WOOHOO!
*We all thought it said Scientist* 1:41 SAME, GIRL... SAME! THIS SONG, THIS VIDEO, THIS CONCEPT, CHOREOGRAPHY, LOOK, ALBUM, A L L O F I T is amazing! I love it! I cannot stop jamming to Scentist! and Shangri-La is on the album, which I also love!!
I always look forward to your solo reactions! Also i feel really dumb just noticing that the prints I sent you are hanging on your wall and I kind of freaked out when I noticed that
It’s been stuck in my head since it came out and as soon as I heard it I was excited to hear your reaction!! ALSO I didn’t even realise it wasn’t called Scientist until you said that I can’t believe it
I've been waiting for you 😭😭 Thanks for the detailed and great reaction. With this I can hear and understand the song even more that I missed. If you have a little time, hope you give us a first listen to EAU DE VIXX cuz 8 of 12 songs were made by members themselves, of course Ravi, N and even Hyuk & Ken, who participated in VIXX's album first time. I wonder how you feel the whole album. Thanks for uploading the video💕
Thank you so much for reviewing this nicely.. your reaction really educated and your explanation easy to understand.. yeah i think VIXX really want give priority about sing distribution in this comeback and try a new one.. beside they put main vocal in all chorus. but still this song really addicted to me 😉😄
First of all, DID ANYONE KNOW THERE IS SUBS TO THE VIDEO!! ROVIX WAS BEING NICE WTH!!! Secondly, your reaction is very informative and you are so sweeeeeet 😍 Before, i just thought that the aabb melody sounds like poem in its own right or something. But it's honestly refreshing because we can compare the members voice better in a sense. I don't know, i just like them i suppose 😆 On the other note, there's a theory that they are a representation of the boy, N being the start of it all, leo being the seducer, ken being the one that lost his innocence, ravi being the manic, hongbin being the killer. Im not sure what hyuk is but i think hyuk is the end, when he did complete the scent which gives him some sort of sane vibes. So, then my theory extend to the members with natural coloured hair is the images they show to peoples while the more eccentric coloured members is the one within
oh Umu! Have been waiting for your reaction since the release! It's kinda missing some pieces of VIXX's come back without your reaction coz you're the one who introduce VIXX to me~ Please Please listen to the whole album and share with us your viewssssss~ just cant help loving the whole album!
Oooh boy I read Perfume. It's extremely artful in it's language, I can really see the link between the book and MV now that I've been told this theory. I may need to read the translation of the lyrics to see if there's more of a relationship.
THE EXACT MOMENT U SAID IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE SCENTIST, I IMMEDIATELY PAUSED THE VIDEO AND- it quickly dawned on me how wrong i was ALL THIS TIME. Ohmygash, ever since its release, thought it was scientist but no, i was living my life as a lie until ive watched this😱😂😂
It's interesting to hear people's opinions on the song since my older brother is the assistant of the producer of the song aka Varien :D My brother is a music producer too and they're now working together
Umu........ you just made me realize right at this moment that the song is called scentist, and not scientist.... after I listened to it a thousand times and saw all comebacks...... I can't believe my life was a lie all these months
Theswedetwins Also her old reactions to Mamamoo - she used to introduce herself as Umu the moomoo. Lots of blanket covering the fangirl in a puddle of tears for IS2 performances.
Umu girl you’re not the only one that thought it was “Scientist” I literally searched up “VIXX Scentist” and google asked me if I meant “VIXX Scientist” 😐 Articles and other reactions/lyric videos have put down Scientist in the titles...
OH MY GOD I RELATE SO HARD WHEN U SAID U THOUGHT THE TITLE WAS "SCIENTIST" BECAUSE I JUST KNEW (like right now when u said it) THAT IT WAS SCENTIST LOL that's why I was wondering how 향 translated to scientist when the word is clearly about scents ._. Ughhhh that f-ing "I" makes a world of difference.
Hakyeon really came for blood this time, like he always does but he's really not playing this comeback. It's a song that after another listen you really get hooked I feel like. Song is definitely one of my favorite vixx songs!!
*3 seconds in*
Umu: "piano! That's a cool looking piano!"
Me: *face palm* "there's a whole snacc of a man sitting there and umu commenting on the piano. The difference between you and me umu my dear"
"Whole snack of a man" Perfect description of Leo. Thank you for the best sentence ever... *dying* Agreed!
Stephanie Yarns hahaha i mean where's the lie tho? He's the ultimate snack that i'm always gonna be craving 🙈
True enough!!
Musicians
The cake is a lie - you want it but you’ll never get it 😭
Sorry, had to bring that Portal quote 😅
I believe every Scentist reaction video will have that line, " I thought it was Scientist, not Scentist."
The pre-chorus is actually one of my favorite things about the song. The song is definitely supposed to be more of a vibe than a in your face bop. I find myself listening to it on repeat.

hakyeon and leo were not messing around this time lol
neo got back culture things tech tech on my mind RIGHT?! They WENT ALL OUT!!!!
You're reaction to N was EXACTLY how I felt. Like you were a representation of me. I'm glad I'm not the only affected.
Lil Annie thats what I thought too at her reaction 😍
Maybe try to react to their live performance of 'My Valentine' too? I honestly just want to see your reaction for it 😂😂
Abegail Peñaranda that's a good suggestion
Abegail Peñaranda I also wanna see this! I think she'll be in shock with how cough*sensual*cough it is 😂😂
ONE OF THE BEST THING ABOUT THIS SONG IS THE CLEAN AND FAIR LINE DISTRIBUTION.
Writing from my BTSVIXX Grave agree they got fair line here even in my valentine
I totally agree with what you say about their line distribution of this song that it was designed to distribute lines more fairly to the members. One another evidence to it, as you caught while your first listening, is the lower range of the song than their past title songs that usually only the two main vocalists had to take.

Absolutely. I didn't like the chorus at first and now I am literally obsessed with it. Also them lyrics...wow.
MinNt starlght thats exactly what I think! Thats why they dont appeal that much to the public cause youd have to repeat the song to like it.
I think what i've seen about vixx so far, is that they don't really go with 'drops' much. Like although there are 'drops' its not like epic. And... i think im okay with that. im so late but tbh old vixx was much more Woah with dramatic drops but their current more subtle style is pretty good too
They're such an aesthetic group with visuals and mv
Finally! 🎉👏🏻 i got into Vixx because of you and I’m soooo freaking happy about it, because now they are one of my favorite group! Thank you! 🙏🏻❤️
That scream was me every time N and Leo came on the screen
To my knowledge the book theory is just a theory made on the basis of some teaser pictures and the assumption that this would be a dark concept. just noticed that hongbin looks deranged in a few of the shots. it fits so well with the concept i love it ahhhhhh
I was expecting your reaction. BUT NOT THE BREAKDOWN!!!! ahhhhhhh love your hand gesture+body language when ‘teaching’ lol.
I WAS DYING TO SEE YOU REACTING ON VIXX SCENTIST GIRL.. LOVE YA
maybe cool video idea?: have people react to the lyric versions of the title track, secondary promotional track (yknow, the one they do on music shows but it doesn't have a mv), and a b-side track (probably the most musically complex one?) and have them guess which is which
We had to read The Perfume in school and I loved it and held my best presentation ever about the main character so it is kind of special to me. I got very excited because you mentioned it. TOTALLY AGREE THE AESTHETIC MV DISTRACTS SO MUCH FROM THE QUALITY MUSIC BUT CMON ITS VIXX
HAHAHA
Please react to the whole album😭💕 it’s a masterpiece
I really liked you did a explanation about every part of the song. It helped me to listen to things I didn't listen before ^^
I hope you have some time to make a first listen to EAU DE VIXX. I want to know what you think about all the songs.

subdee2 Love this release. Very clean and user friendly but with vixx's signature style and attention to detail!
UHUHU. Umu! I think you would really appreciate this concept more if you read the the book or at least watched the movie. I've watched the movie adaptation of the book and I noticed that there are some objects in the music video that are references to the movie (like that cool-looking piano and the rose petals and those bags filled with liquid). i love N in this
C A IKR, HIS MY BIAS AND THIS COMEBACK MADE ME LOVE HIM MOREE
him and leo totally snatched this era
I really want to see you react to their live stage for their song ‘my valentine’ 💕💕😭

I've been waiting for you to react this, and I haven't click this fast after VIXX - scentist
*We all thought it said Scientist*
1:41 SAME, GIRL...
Also i feel really dumb just noticing that the prints I sent you are hanging on your wall and I kind of freaked out when I noticed that
At 3:47, the shadow on leo and the ground are piano keys. Though there isn't much piano in the song lol
The song is all about Leo stealing our hearths...
I was so excited to see your reaction lol- you should check out the live performance of my valentine next, the choreography will kill you 😂
my bias/bias wrecker n bias wrecked me i cant hes so intense and all i wanna cry i love him
I'm early!!! Damn!!!
I've been waiting for youuuuuuu....
I don't know, i just like them i suppose 😆
On the other note, there's a theory that they are a representation of the boy, N being the start of it all, leo being the seducer, ken being the one that lost his innocence, ravi being the manic, hongbin being the killer. Im not sure what hyuk is but i think hyuk is the end, when he did complete the scent which gives him some sort of sane vibes. So, then my theory extend to the members with natural coloured hair is the images they show to peoples while the more eccentric coloured members is the one within
Could u plz react to their live performance of Scentist and My Valentine ❤️❤️
oh Umu! Have been waiting for your reaction since the release! It's kinda missing some pieces of VIXX's come back without your reaction coz you're the one who introduce VIXX to me~
Please Please listen to the whole album and share with us your viewssssss~ just cant help loving the whole album!
I kinda think this song is perfect while u look at the MV OR the music stage perform cuz it's so lit! Their coreography is so on point!
Oooh boy I read Perfume. It's extremely artful in it's language, I can really see the link between the book and MV now that I've been told this theory. I may need to read the translation of the lyrics to see if there's more of a relationship.
Loved the song and MV and your reaction 😂
The thing that I really digged in every Umu's reaction video... is how relateable she is uwu
i have been waiting for this Umu, finally! 😊😊😊
2 days after the comeback and i just now realize the title is actually "Scentist" and not Scientist. Bless you umu
I have been waiting for this omg yaaa queen
Our aesthetic kings
Umu........ you just made me realize right at this moment that the song is called scentist, and not scientist.... after I listened to it a thousand times and saw all comebacks...... I can't believe my life was a lie all these months
I've been waiting for this for days.
omg i was waiting for this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I WAITED FOR THIS REACTION FOR SUCH A LONG TIME
The way you reacted at 4:30 is exactly how I reacted!!!
I was waiting for this.
The movie based off the book was cray cray. Also agree with the eye contact parts of the MV.
I don't think I've seen her fangirl like that before 😂
Theswedetwins you should watch literally all of her VIXX's reaction. She always fangirls over VIXX because VIXX is her bias group
Theswedetwins Also her old reactions to Mamamoo - she used to introduce herself as Umu the moomoo. Lots of blanket covering the fangirl in a puddle of tears for IS2 performances.
The Nirvana's leader Kurt Cobain was inspired by the same book (Perfume) when he wrote the song "Scentless apprentice".
Ahahahahaha your overwhelmed face lmao i can't!!
ns entire existence in this mv overwhelmed me
thanks for sharing!!
still love 6VIXX sooooooo much.
There's actually a movie based on that book as well and it's very creepy too
hey umu!!! I think the piano might be a play on the different scent 'notes' in a perfume? maybe?
Umu girl you’re not the only one that thought it was “Scientist” I literally searched up “VIXX Scentist” and google asked me if I meant “VIXX Scientist” 😐 Articles and other reactions/lyric videos have put down Scientist in the titles...
This album is amazing, lots of rnb and sensual vibe
OH MY GOD I RELATE SO HARD WHEN U SAID U THOUGHT THE TITLE WAS "SCIENTIST" BECAUSE I JUST KNEW (like right now when u said it) THAT IT WAS SCENTIST LOL that's why I was wondering how 향 translated to scientist when the word is clearly about scents ._. Ughhhh that f-ing "I" makes a world of difference.
this was my favorite reaction video of yours xD
OMG, i didn't realize it was scentist instead of scientist before you said it xD
ooooohhhh i waited for this reaction ...umu thnx
Umu is so cute!!!And that was basicaly me watching the video.
Please do review on their b-side tracks as well, Odd Sense sounds so interesting, I would love it if you could analyze it.
The book sounds like my cup of tea so now I really want to read. Good thing it's available in English. OAO
*King of concept vixx is back~~ yeah scentist is way too good!*
*pls do react to JBJ Call my name too~~~* 🙏🙏🙏
If you have a chance to read that book, please do it. It’s mindblowing.
I've been waiting!!!!
Yeah, the album's mostly consists of three-peats? Triplets? Lol I forgot the term.
Would you react to the stages for Scentist and My Valentine too? I just want to see your reactions lol
i just was waiting u 😂💕
I really like the what to listen for thing!
I feel like the boy represents the perfect perfume and they all were sacrificed to make the perfume. That’s why they are always shown as the boy
The movie is amazing ...you had to see it 😍😍😍
