Which feature is your favourite? Should they add all this to FULL FRAME 🎥
They need a S1hii/S1x
Fast Sensor/stacked
45-50mp for 8k
8k60 if possible (z8 can do so)
8k30 opengate (60 would be giant)
6k60 (oversampled) and even 120 could be possible with apsc crop.
4k oversampled up to 60p
4k120 choice between binned/lineskipped or apsc Crop.
Autofocus in every mode with external recording.
And as a photographer i want the 9.44mdot Viewfinder with 1.0 magnification
4500/5000€
S1 Body is fine for me
The small M43 sensor makes faster read-out possible so this is not possible on the s5II series:
- 5.7K 60fps
- 4K60 no-crop
- 4K120 no-crop
- Better stabilization with less crop due to small sensor size.
What they should implement in upcoming FF bodies:
- Arri log-c3
- ProRes RAW
- 32 bit audio
A lot of great features on the GH7 but I'll stick with my S5II that I only bought in December (and am really loving it). The main feature I REALLY hope they bring over from the GH7 to the S5II(X) is the 32 Bit Float recording with the XLR2 if possible and I can't see why they couldn't do that with a firmware update (and for the G9II). It makes sense for Lumix to do it if they can as they get to sell more XLR2 units.
I had the GH6 and loved it but the autofocus is my only issue. With the exact copy of the GH6 to GH7 body style, I can transfer my Smallrig setup and get the autofocus I'd need for future projects.
Especially flip screen and especially yes🎉
So much Sony tea about to be spilled in this video 😂☕️
😂👏🏻
💀
Yes, ignore they make Hollywood 100 million plus films ( The Creator) using an fx3 ( aka A7Siii , ZVE1 ) and buy a small sensor camera for the same price as the ZVE1. This isn't 2017.
Lumix for me.
"Should not ignore"? Jeeez, can you show us any better featured photo camera for the money...??? Panasonic has won 100% over any competitors. What an amazing camera!!! However, this a camera for those who know how to film or/and shot. The others and the YT reviewers buy Sonys ;)
I’m considering the S9 can’t wait for your honest take on that one.
Wish Panasonic make a new gx85 form factor with g9ii internals, phase detect AF, LUT.
i recently bought an s1h after using a gh5 for years... dont get me wrong the s1h is great but bulky... might grab one of these for more run and gun stuff especially with the internal raw recording.
Great video! A few real questions for me:
Would you use the GH7 over the S5iiX for videography?
Do you think the Arri Log C will be available for the S5ii series?
Hey Jacob. I really enjoyed the GH7. The extra buttons and the ergonomics felt great! Colours are fantastic. I just really love the dynamic range and low light from full frame and the lenses too. So I’ll be sticking with the S5iiX for now. But it gets me excited to think what’s coming to the full frame lineup.
Thanks for watching g
Depends. Docs, ads, social media content and when I need a workhorse...m43 is the right choice. Full frame is better for me when I cant control the light and need a extra shallow dof.
With m43 I can create almost the same FF. My work is 80% with my lights.
@@SamHolland I agree. Thanks so much
A GH7 vs A7s iii comparison video would be a fun watch. I missed the ibis of my GH5 when I went to Sony in 2020
You are so dam good at this.
Do you need the XLR2 to use 32 bti float?
Yes, it is required. You cannot do internal 32-bit float without it
Hello 👋
Hey! 👋🏻
Panasonic provides incredible value for price. Always been like that. Been using the GH5s for 6 years. Still holding up against Sony cameras.
This is not GH7 it's a GH6s
Started my career with GH5, and now using S5ii. Still got a lots of lens for M43, if GH7’s autofocus is as good as S5ii, maybe I’ll grab one in the future after the price gets down 😂
This is an amazing camera. LUMIX did not hold back! It sets a new benchmark for all sensor sizes.
M43 will never die.... Lumix is was and forever will be king!!!
If not the king, maybe the Jester.
This seems to be M43 Swan song
You can tell no "competitor" is even worried.
Like if Arri was worried about this video camera they wouldn't be working alongside it to give it Arri Log C.
They know that this camera will always be no better than a B Camera on set. A little brother to the actual work cameras 😂
@@GrenlandUnderVann still smaller better carry and mobility with the same capabilities and still shoot photos??? C'mon people wakey wakey!!! You know it has always been the 👑
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI see the comment below 👇 hahahha
RAW is RAW. It safes the readout of all the green, red, and blue pixels separately and for each pixel in a mostly lossless compression. This allows to do the white balance and much better color grading in post. If you read the full width of the sensor it's 5.7k. If you need 4k and want to reduce the data stored in the file, you can't re scale the 5.7k readout to 4k and safe this as RAW because this isn't RAW anymore. This is a problem for all RAW-recordings. If you want 4k RAW from the full sensor, you need a sensor with only 4K (around 10MP for the 3:2 or 4:3 sensor) - like the A7S3 or the GH5s.
You can't upscale, but you can do it pixel by pixel OR just use 4k/16:9 worth of the sensor, and it still will be RAW
Also ProRes Raw isn't true Raw. It's adulterated and each cameras implements it differently. It's not like CinemaDNG which is one of the True RAW formats.
The discrepancy lies in how it's debayered. Lots of companies make changes to this process, and we have yet to see how Panasonic handles their implementation
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI is that true? I know that B-RAW isn't actually RAW, which is how Blackmagic got away with recording it internally for all these years... But I haven't heard this about ProRes RAW before.
It would make sense though, considering RED is technically the only company (and now Nikon) that is legally allowed to record RAW internally
Funny, I got into MFT system for the small size of cameras and lenses, now we are getting tiny FF cameras and big MFT ones. 🤷
😂 right!
Isn't that crazy. The GH7 is actually bigger than most full frame cameras
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI True, I am actually starting to wish for a MFT to FF speed booster so I could use small MFT lenses on small FF cameras 🤣
Lumix is getting very good the only thing left is just the ergonomics. i like GH7 specs but i also like more compact size camera like FX30
Agreed. I've been looking for a small modern body.
Or ERGONOMICS even
This is probably a heretical thought but personally I'd love to see an APS-C L-mount camera as part of the lineup, with an FX30 style body
@@leenhouse217 I agree with you
I cant stand sony ergonomics. Lumix is perfect
Bro i was soooo certain i was gonna buy an S5ii, now i gotta wait for the comparison video
It’s coming 💪🏻🎥
Can I have one?
If this means the S2H will be Full Frame internal Raw with Arri CLog AND 32 bit float.... It will be SO expensive but it sounds so worth it I'm going to start saving now 😅
relax sam, i'm not ignoring it!
😂 haha shall I take CAPS LOCK OFF? 🎥🙏🏻
Looking forward to your comparison video so I can post all my full frame gear for sale
😂
❤❤❤
If they can add these features to the S1Hii and figure out how to add some kind of internal ND similar to how the BMPCC6k pro did while giving users an uncropped 4K 60 and reducing the rolling shutter (global shutter would be ideal) I could see a lot of people potentially switching from Sony FX3s and possibly even the FX6 and lumix being used as a b cam is larger productions.
It's like a micro4/3s Lumix S1H
Great video mate, looking forward to playing with one of these!
Thanks brother 🤩🙏🏻🎥
I am very excited about the GH7 as well. Even though I use DaVinci Resolve, I'm willing to pay the one time cost of $299 for FCP if it means working with PRraw files. The GH7 is pretty dang exciting. I might just switch (back) to Lumix from Sony with the GH7.
happy i invested in mft glass! i can now have a two cam setup! g9ii and gh7 🎉🎉 Damn excited to see the arrilog implementation. hope it comes to the g9ii as well since they share the same sensor!
How would you audio? Timecode?
@@psysword resolve does a pretty good waveform sync!
Should not ignore it at 1200$, totally ignore it at 2200$.
Definitely interested in that S5ii vs GH7 comparison.
Great video Mate!
Thanks brother 🤩🙏🏻🎥
Very cool that you could have Volodimir Zelensky as talent for your B-roll shots while he's so busy these days 👍
😂👏🏻
It will be interesting to get Dannys opinion as he's a A7R5 owner like myself. Currently I shoot a lot of food and drink in restaurants pubs and hotels. I shoot 1080 100fps and vertically for FB Insta and Tiktok. The two features that I'm wondering if they'll help me are the stabilisation and 32 bit float, as I don't have a lot of time for gimbals and monitoring my audio.
Him and I are gonna do GH7 vs FX30 soon
9:20 The 4k pro res can double the rate to 60fps, and would be 50% of the data to process per frame. So it looks like the 4k prores raw is a 50% window of 5.7k prores raw (1.41 x 1.41 = 2).
Sort of but that's not always the case, Raw can be implemented in many different ways
I have an S5 II (not X) intersting to watch the comparison.
I am thinking of selling it , maybe the GH7 would be a good replacemnt , since lenses are cheaper ,advantages and disadvantages to both.
And As the S5II is more like my C camera It doesn't need to be full frame.
Looking forward to that video!
I’d buy 2 right now if it had 2 SD cards and a high second native iso.
The internal raw alone, on a camera of this size and price, is kind of shocking. I hope this isn't a one off and is a sign for the future of more mirrorless cameras having internal raw. I'm not a big fan of Prores Raw, hoping that we'll see Blackmagic Raw internally in non-Blackmagic cameras 🤞🏼
When this anticipated s1h mark ii finally surfaces that’s gonna be an insane camera
Lumix are really pushing the features now with every release (not sure about the s9 but isn’t exactly a flagship model)
If we get a full frame camera with these features it’s literally only global shutter and maybe internal nds that are missing from what would be my dream camera
I was looking forward to this!
🤩🎥 what’re your thoughts?
The xlr will prob work on the new ff s2h or whatever so all the mft glass i have def no brainer to go Gh7. Pretty excited now usually comes w dissapointment but not as suprize like 2tb max and 1 cfexpress slot already put out there. Gh6 also has the arri clog 🎉
Hey Sam, great video. If you get the chance can you give us the specs on your Mac mini please. I'm close to purchase and don't want to under estimate the horsepower and file space needed to do everything from music production to 4K prores video and 3D animation. TY
I need one
Arri log c3 in a firmware update for the LUMIX S5IIx. Come on!
Great review!
How about the max.iso with good picture profile for gh7, is it 4000?
I do want this, but at this point I feel like I’m just a camera collector. 😂😂😂
Gh6 rules for my cinema filming. Manual focus all the way.
If it had blackmagic raw instead of the crappy apple codec i would never use the gh7 would be the perfect camera for me
Nice review. Finally we got what expected from lumix. Which dynamic range there?
Some reviews report the colors are closer than the G9II than the GH6, is it true ? It's a real disappointement since I prefer the colors of my GH6 over my G9II.
Yes. I would agree with this also. GH6 colours 👌🏻 but the image on the GH7 is nicer in my opinion. Really great highlight roll off and slightly better Dyanmic range
I think the Lumix S9 is the worst camera they have released in my eyes, but the GH7 is great. I skipped the GH6 honestly. It was a shame.
Yes, indeed and at that bizar price point, spent e 200 more and buy the non crippled Panasonic S5ii.
The S9 is plain stupid as a full frame camera. Doesn't make any sense with great big full frame lenses. But a MFT version of the S9 would be a brilliant camera that people would love. Panasonic needs to bring out some MFT compacts with IBIS and PDAF. Time to return to the core MFT base that has been too neglected for a while. Panasonic thought we would all jump ship to L-mount. Didn't happen. We love the MFT format, and hopefully the GH7 success will spark a return to treating MFT users seriously again.
@@artistjoh I like the GH7 coming from GH5 & GH5s.
@@Filmmaker809 I have the GH5 II and GH5s, as well as the G9. The GH7 is very welcome, and count me as a buyer, eventually.

Good but id still record raw to external ssd much cheaper
Lumix funds his channel, and feed him 3 times a day 😂😂😂😂
Is the Sony FX3 better than GH7?
5 minutes deep and we are talking about the GH6 ....just saying , the best comparasion is to the GH6 what can it do that the 6 cant and why should i buy or upgrade to it. still a good review to the people never seen the workings of a GH6.
Panasonic is so underrated.

LUTs embedding is available in BMPCC for many years back
Hello, how are you? I want to ask you about the new Lumixgh7 camera. I have an external recording device that supports 16BIT RAW video, but does the camera accept external RAW recording or is the highest quality in the camera PRORES RAW 12BIT? Honestly, I want 16bit RAW
I want my timestamps :)
It's still brutal in low-light unfortunately. Filming indoors with a large depth of field is a problem with this camera, as it was with the GH5 and the GH6. They need to make a GH7s. I'd pay $5,000 for one.
Hey Sam, excellent video! I thinking about upgrading my GH6 for this one. Do you know if the body dimensions are the same? Curious if the smallrig cage Smallrig 3441Black Mamba will work on the GH7? Thanks!
Low light test
wait what??
Raw doesn’t down sample, so 4k use the part of sensor that’s needed for 4k and 5.7 use the entire sensor that’s why the resolution is higher.
All it's users are now unable too use one of it's most anticipated features on Da Vinci : the internal raw. So is it really a dead cat ?
9:16 RAW is RAW sensor readout. You can't oversample the whole sensor. That's not how RAW works. You get oversampling in all the non-RAW codecs in camera (up to 60fps). It crops in to a portion of the sensor, that makes up 4k pixels for RAW.
That's not how it works, you can definitely "oversample" RAW. Look at the Sigma FP, it only shoots 4k but uses the entire sensor. Same with the Sigma FP L
@@CallMeRabbitzUSVI The Sigma FP and FP L are line skipping, not oversampling. RAW is direct sensor readout.
Yes, you can use the full sensor size, but at the cost of sensor readout time. By cropping to a 4K area, you get a faster readout. And Panasonic had to do that, to achieve 4k 120fps, which the Leica FP or FP L's sensor isn't even enough for.
The thing is, the GH series became popular by offering video specs no full-frame cameras of the time had, especially for the price (except the Canon 1D C, which came before the GH4 and offered 4K video, although the price difference was vast). Nowadays, there are plenty of full-frame cameras with great video specs, IBIS, etc. The DR boost in the GH7 is great and puts it almost on par with FF cameras, but it only makes me wonder what they could do with the bigger sensors.
I keep my Canon 5DIII because the Magic Lantern hack does DNG raw internally. Not proper 4K and it can be a bit glitchy but the ability to manipulate the files is amazing and delivers a beautiful image.
I bought a G9 after Canon disappointed with the pre-R6II mirrorless cameras.
The G9 is amazing (apart from CAF in video) and piqued my interest in LUMIX generally.
The GH7 broadly offers everything I could ever want in a camera and then some (ok other than internal NDs, but no one has those in hybrid cameras for video).
The G9II is actually the better fit for me personally as an enthusiast. FF I find too bulky for most purposes outside the house. The MFT lenses are amazing.
I expect the new top S series cameras from LUMIX will be similarly loaded with specs. I wonder whether internal NDs will be a feature? It is the only remaining frontier I can think of. (Global shutter doesn’t excite me at all.)
You don’t have to wait much longer. Newer s1h is coming out soon
@@Daydream2142 I thought you wrote Neewer S1H for a moment LOL 🤣.
Wish they still made small m43 bodies with good video features.
The reason why it's possible with M43 is because the smaller sensor is much less taxing on the processor, allowing it to process two different signals simultaneously for DR boost. That's why M43 can do a lot of things that FF cannot on the processing side. Given the same processor technology, if M43 is pushing the boundaries already with DR boost, then it will not be possible on FF until processing power is increased. M43 will always be a step ahead of FF in terms of new technology and processing benefits. Lots of features like handheld high resolution shot, pre-capture, etc were all introduced in M43 long ago, and it was only very recently adopted by FF, and only by very few FF cameras.
Just because something is possible with the GH7, doesn't mean Panasonic can just carry that over to their FF lineup.
Wow LogC I definitely wanna see this😅
BIGGEST question is that I can use all my EF glass on the S5iiX with an adapter and they work like native... Can the same be done on the GH7? If not that means I'd rather go S5iiX
No, the EF-MFT Adapters are no compatible with the PDAF Panasonic Implementation, until they are updated but haven't been updated in over 3 years since most companies stopped supporting MFT
If you used line markers in fx3 for example .. say you wanted 4:3 seperate from 16:9. Could you not just put line markers on as guide and then crop in post in 4:3 and have 16:19 still to?
Yes. I do this for my videos. I shoot my videos with an a7s iii & rx100 vii. I set the 4:3 markers on both and have a preset 4:3 timeline in DaVinci.
When does this release?
Honestly, its a pretty ignorable camera when it comes to videographers. It doesn't offer any benefits that a normal video centric camera with a Raw Recorder doesn't have.
And for this videographer that has moved on to 8K it offers even less reasons
THIS is the camera worth pressing the excitement button over. The GH6 never got the excitement factor going because of the lack of PDAF. But this update also adds the 32bit Float audio and that alone makes this a game changing camera. It is a bit like the release of the GH4 when it was first and only mirrorless camera to have 4K. It caused an avalanche of people to the camera. The new audio plus the Arri Log and PDAF, ProRes Raw internally, and price, will bring Indie filmmakers by the bus load.
Mind blown.
Brilliant camera. The GH6 was a raspberry because, while superb, it just didn't have quite enough to make it. This GH7 has all that was good about the GH6, but adds the things that turns the raspberries into a gasp. I gave the GH6 a miss, but the GH7 is now on my must buy list.
The excitement button 😂👏🏻 🔘
Question from someone who's still kind of an audio noob: For any production that's even half serious I'm gonna use an external mic/recorder, right? So what would I really gain from internal 32bit Audio on the GH7 except for it not clipping when I do a shot of e.g. my daughter without any additional audio setup (which would already be a good use case for me)....
Extra-Point underlining my noob-ness: I had the GH6 for 1,5 years and to this day I wonder what those 4 audiotracks of the EXACT SAME THING are supposed to be for... I find them super annoying and everytime I'm in Davinci first thing is I delete those 3 extra tracks...
@@PolyglotMonkey You now have 5 tracks to deal with on the GH7 :)
Sure, you are going to have external audio on larger productions, but Indie creators without an audio guy will appreciate the simplicity of recording to camera. There is also the ability to record audio during action POV shooting where on camera audio adds another dimension. I can see a lot more use cases than just simple family shots, however I do thank you for thinking of another scenario where it would be useful. Kids tend not to be able to control their shrieks of joy.
I have a multitrack audio recorder and like that I can put different sources on individual tracks. I like that I can now have similar flexibility with a simpler on camera set-up when on my own. I won't be getting rid of any of my audio gear. Nothing beats an audio guy working his magic, but the older I get, I like more and more just being the lone artist with a minimum of gear, so for me this camera is ideal and I love this in camera audio capability to expand my options. Maybe not so much for you.
Have you seen this? It is BTS of a director using GH7 in an Arri Alexa production. No mention of audio, but plenty of good reasons to be using the new camera: ruclips.net/video/IF49-7-QuHk/видео.htmlsi=QCYXmYUcK8dNoyl7
There is already quite a lot of cinematic GH7 footage online that shows the GH7 produces superb results and matches it with the Arri.
@@artistjoh Thanks for the detailed answer, much appreciated! But here's the thing I could never figure out on the GH6: can I set different recording levels for the different tracks to have saftey tracks? For me they were always pretty much the same....
@@PolyglotMonkey Since I gave the GH6 a pass (I am still on GH5 II, GH5s, and G9) I won't stick my neck out and talk about GH6 use :) And it will take more that a year for me to save the pennies for the GH7, so I will be back here in primitive land for quite a while :)

I get the feeling the GH7 was what the GH6 should have been . The camera has great specs an of course the PDAF witch every lumix users wanted. Lumix have released 6 cameras in 3 years. What made the GH5 so good was that their wasn't a camera like it for years so users got full use out of it. I have actually seen more videos talking about the GH5 instead of the GH6 or GH7.
The term Content creator's is just those who shoot be role and talk to the camera , witch I think why lumix released the S9. Will be interesting to see if the GH7 is still behind talked about in 6 months or will it just fade into the background like the GH6 did.
Contrast AF is an epic fail...."oops i did it again"
IDK I feel kinda ripped off with my GH6 purchase now
As you should since most of these features could've been implemented in your camera. Internal RAW is extremely easy for any manufacturer to do.
No ! raw lowest is 2.2 gbps for 6k are you kidding ? Low light not as good
I’ve had the GH5 since its release and have used it as my primary camera for many projects. Now I know what camera I’ll be upgrading to once my GH5 gives out.

I don't think it is for content creators... if the S9 is for content creators then how can the GH7 be for content creators as well? :D These are 2 different breed of cameras. 1 is a small almost no weight and the other is a huge, bulky, heavy camera... So something does not add up here.. :D

Ok, that is your opinion. I have Gh5 and GH5s for the low light. Works perfect together with my Panasonic s1h. Waiting for s1h II. The big upgrade versus gh4 (I owned) is of course the class leading ibis and for those who needs it the great autofocus in the new series. For new buyers it is difficult. Gh7 of S5II. About same price.
While I somewhat agree about the GH6, It's not true about the GH5. Back in 2017, the cameras offered 4k60fps, Open Gate, good rolling shutter, good detail rendering and fantastic IBIS.
At this time I had the A7III and the NX1 and I can tell you nothing came close than the GH5 for stabilization, rolling shutter and fine details in good light. And speaking about the weight of the camera, at this time (and even now) with a smaller camera like a GX9 or A7C, you could not get the level of IBIS of the GH5. Everything is a compromise.
