Like I said in the post I made yesterday, this is going to be a bit of a test run for the rest of the videos in the series, so let me know if there's any major issues y'all have with the overall format of the video. For some assorted notes & whatnot: - I opted to use original cover arts & release dates for songs, even in instances where I actually got the track off of a comp album that was released at a later date. That is unless the comp version is noticeably different from the original version, in which case I put of the info/art for the comp album. - Terminator is an extremely important part of the history or electronic music, as it was one of the first songs to heavily feature time stretching - Dev/Null and FFF both used to be major Breakcore artists back in the 2000s (and I think FFF still releases Breakcore from time to time), but in more recent years they've both transitioned over to making Jungle - The original release of Johnny Jungle - Johnny was in 1993, but the "Original '92 Mix" I used in this video dropped in 1994 on the "Face of the Future" comp album. I'm assuming there's some slight differences between the 1993 release version an the '92 mix, though I haven't actually checked. - Speaking of Johnny, after Johnny Jungle (Pascal & Sponge) dropped that track, it inspired two copycat tracks: "Scottie" by Subnation in 1993, and "Ricky" by Remarc in 1994. Pascal apparently seems to have taken issue with this (whether seriously or in a more friendly manner I'm not sure), and so when it came around to making the Johnny '94 remixes, Pascals remix of Johnny starts off by throwing shade at Scottie & Ricky. This can even be seen on the cover sleeve for the record, which shows two skulls with the names Scottie & Ricky on them. - The track that the Reese bass originally comes from is "Just Want Another Chance" by Reese (Kevin Saunderson). The track that popularized the Reese is "Terrorist" by Renegade (Ray Keith). I considered including Terrorist in the Darkside section of the video, but decided against it 'cause it didn't fit in the mix as well as I'd like and I also wasn't sure how good of an example of Darkside it really was. So instead I opted to use DJ Hype's remix of "R.I.P." 'cause it's another really good example of the Reese bass in action.
i found you from your beginner's guide about a month ago, and I gotta say the research and explanations that you do include in these mixes is so incredible. Really adds to the experience and helped me understand the nuances of all the subgenres. I initially played these videos as background music but then just ended up staying and reading through all the explainers.
I doubt this video is gonna be anywhere near as popular as the original video tbh. Mainly 'cause it's covering a more niche topic, but also 'cause said niche is not the one most people are interested in at the moment. I.e., Atmospheric Jungle/DnB is definitely way more popular as it currently stands, and I do plan on doing a video on it at some point soon-ish (like within the next few months), so I expect that video will probably wind up doing better than this one. That said, the popularity of the original video was honestly kind of a fluke lol. I probably had like ~500 subs or so back when I uploaded it, and it definitely did better than basically all of the videos I'd made before it. But it still took ~9 months for it to reach 25k views, and the main reason it got so popular is that the YT algorithm just randomly decided it was time to blow up. So it suddenly went from 25k views to 150k views in the span of 7-8 days, and then slowed down but kept climbing at a rate much faster than it had prior. tl:dr: Whether it reaches the same level as the original video is going to be entirely up to the whims of the RUclips algorithm lol
Not that familiar with Orbcore tbh, but it's an offshoot of Footwork Jungle from what I understand. Also haven't heard any Orbcore that sounds like Darkside, most of it seems more inspired by stuff like House, Breakbeat Hardcore, Happy Hardcore, etc., i.e. mostly upbeat & ravey type stuff.
Man... this goes so hard that it makes the tungsten look like sodium, all the mix is fire but the R.I.P./Dred Bass part takes it all. 50:00-59:00 the best part of it.
Oh man, brilliant work just as the first video. Thank you very much. The break mix at 35:53 is just top notch level. Also, I wasn’t aware of the existence of “Run”, by Janaway & Cheetah… probably one of the best jungle tunes I’ve ever listened to.
I got it from Goldie's "The Alchemist: Best of 1992-2012" album. Probably remastered (though it doesn't say), but I checked it against versions of Terminator that were up on RUclips and I'm pretty sure it was otherwise identical. Granted I definitely could've made a mistake/missed some differences.
HOLY SHIT I loved the popular one I listened to it countless times haha. this will be a nice addition to my collection and a nice expansion of my knowledge! oh btw ow did you find the tracks for the last one? where does this infinite knowledge of genre and various artist come from?
I get most of the music I use in my mixes from Bandcamp, though I also have a decent amount from iTunes, and a few releases from the website for Kniteforce Records. Knowledge about artists & genres mostly comes from listening to other people's mixes (assuming there's a tracklist to reference somewhere lol), and doing my own crate digging on Bandcamp. A lot of it also comes from reading articles & forum posts about it. I.e. wiki, genre subreddits, DogsonAcid*, electronic music magazines, random blogs, etc. *DogsonAcid is a Jungle/DnB internet forum started in the early 2000s that's surprisingly still active. I've never posted anything there and don't even have an account, but it's a good place to check to see if anyone in it's ~23 year history has already asked/answered a question you have.
Loving your guides and mixes fr.... i think this is such a good way to make a guide, mixing many songs of the same genre so people get a good idea of what it is whilst providing a descriptor and traits to look out for. Please make more guides like this 🙏🙏
Another great mix and genre guide! I quite like the format and am looking forward to the continuation of this series :) I'm glad to have had your mixes to listen to for the past few years, they just keep getting better.

Orbcore is just new darkside?

@@dxmthl orbcore seems to specifically target the artist Bye2.

This is sick. I get to listen as I understand more of what I listen to lol I've been wanting to refreshen my music knowledge.

What version of Terminator is that??? Sounds completely different
