      @@jaredabvan20 That's for sure. F1 Codemasters is NOT a simulator but a wanna be simulator. Instead F1 Challenge has a very good ISI physics engine. A great ff too.
      F1 Challenge uses ISI 1 physics engine. From that by improvement ISI 2 physics engine was derived and made rFactor1. There are not too many simulators and many of them are built having ISI engine as a base.
      Automobilista, GTR2 and co are also baded on ISI engine.
      As an example of great not ISI engine simulators are iRacing (Papyrus engine) and Aseto Corsa. Project Cars is not a true simulator.

    I only had GP1 as a kid but as a massive F1 fan let me tell you... This game blew my mind with its gameplay! Getting to race actual circuits in familiar cars was simply amazing. Until getting my PC I was strictly 8 bit, so seeing 3D cars and those visuals was mind-blowing. Time to fire up dosbox or whatever I need and relive some memories.

    Started on Amiga version of 1 - then bought them all on PC and have to say GP2 was my most played and probable favourite.
    Only issue i remember was that the game time was linked to your frame rate - so a lap timed at say 1:30 mins would take 2 mins real time if you chugged on full graphics, or barely a minute if you reduced the detail to minimum for max framereate. I first noticed this on GP2 and think GP3 also had this issue -something to do with the game engine, not sure about 4

  • @sebastiangrumman8507
    @sebastiangrumman8507 5 лет назад +4

    GP 2 was a massive graphic improvement over GP 1. But, they left out rain. In GP 1 rain was poorly implemented. GP 3 added rain back in, but was not the revolutionary improvement in graphics that people were hoping for, so, it didn't get the accolades it deserved. GP 4 was a continued refinement of the franchise. But, it had memory and optimization problems with some OS and configs. The rain was done brilliantly. You could tell how the rain was moving across the track. You might have to make a tough choice whether to come in for rain tires, or stay on slicks. You could really simulate Senna's and McLaren's brilliant strategy (or Williams' total screw up) at Donnington in '93.

      I'd rather have a decent game without licenced names than a boring simulator that's endorsed by the officials. Unfortunately I'm in the minority, or at least would be in terms of marketing, and like you say things have changed a lot.
      Back then you didn't need to slap names all over a product to make it stand out. Good games got the word-of-mouth treatment and the recognition they deserved!
