Great job! I’m an old school DJ and I got into Serato after my 15 years of playing vinyl. I took a break 😊 and then I bought a Pioneer DDJ SX2 and I still love it! Using Serato it sounds amazing auxiliary output is a bit weak but as a Serato Controller it’s fantastic! After 9 years I still can’t justify buying anything else? Ok, an Opus One, AIO board would be a nice direction as it can be a controller for Serato as well.
12:50 Heh, Audacity. I use this on my Mac to record Serato DJ when using Tidal (which is 99,9% of the time). Must-have software for évery DJ. Recording via Audacity is also better than Serato's recording option (SDJ record is quite low on volume).
I bought a Vestax VCI-300 for £80 to see what Serato Pro was like as that was the cheapest controller I could find that unlocked Pro. I'm really loving the 300! Got an Akai LPD8 for £25 as well so I can have filter an effects. Lots of fun! Got a DDJ-800 as well, and I do think I prefer Rekordbox out of the two.
Thanks for the info. I use Spectral Layers Pro for Stems. Loopback from my motu to record Any audio Playing and record and edit on my Cubase 12 Pro, FlStudio21 or even Ableton Live Suite11 but any DAW will do.
I use Audacity on my desktop to record everything that plays on my desktop (PC) set the host to Windows WASAPI and set the playback device to the audio interface you're using in my case I'm using a Steinberg UR22mkll so I set that to Line Steinberg UR22mkll and set the recording device to Line Steinberg UR22mkll (loopback) set the channels to 2 Stereo and you're all set, anything you play on your desktop now can be recorded in Audacity.
Just caught up with this week's Q&A. Really enjoyed this especially the vocal remover. Definitely going to look into this as I'm all for preparing beforehand. When the streams are as informative and interesting as this I love it. I've registered my interest for the new course, even though I'm quite anti stems I think the course will still be very good so I'm interested to hear more from you about this soon. Quick Q about Audacity. I wondered if you knew how I could cut the top and tail silence parts of tracks in bulk eg. If I have 10 tracks. I want to cut off the silence at the start and end but not doing it separately to every one individually. Can this be done in bulk? Nice shirt too. You remind me of when I had a Tropical and colourful shirt collection a few years ago. Cheers Phil & DDJT
25:50 Heh, I just picked up the Roland DJ-505 brand new for 600 quid in July. I bloody love that controller. I've had very expensive gear back in the 90s and 00s, including Technics SL1200's, Denon SC2900M's and crazy stuff like that, then switched to a Hercules controller and then a Pioneer DJ DDJ-SB2 (which I loved and is now being used by my son). When I bought the DJ-505 I didn't know it was thát good. Roland at its best again :) First I wanted to get the DJ-808, but that one is discontinued. Roland still produces the DJ-505 (ceasing production in December 2023) and the DJ-707M. Great stuff. I spoke to a Roland guy back in August and he told me that they áre looking into it but have no real plans yet to make a new controller line. If they will, it won't be before 2030. So stay tuned until then.
The 505 is a real beast, but the provided user manual is terrible. There is no real manual on how to use the TR-S sequencer on top. A missed opportunity, since (maybe it's just me) there aren't many places where you can find people with the same controller who are willing to help you out. @@digitaldjtips
If Serato moves to subs for their dj software then if that is the only optiion then i am done .I would rather go back to vinyl then use subs so Pioneer do not take away the choice and we will be good but if ypu force subs on those that do not want it you might lose alot of customers.
Does Audacity let you edit music videos? If not, which free software allows you to edit music videos easily, just as Audacity does for music tracks. Thanks
Is there any other apps that are compatible with the first gen Numark NS7 ? Old but still a beautiful dj controller and would hate to not use it anymore. Let me know something, thanks
Such a great video , you are great answering questions I'm a Saxophonist some times I find great smooth jazz track with sax but I can not remove the saxophone trying to make a backing track I use moises but it can not remove saxophone Anybody can help me with that ? Great day appreciate it.
as i have Serato Studio i no longer need Audacity though it is a good program.I can also record on Serato dj but on Studio i edit and manipulate sound much more. When i had no money and also at the time there was no Studio then Audacity was useful ..pity about recent events ...
I sent the flx4 back. Had some issues with tracks randomly speeeding up whenever I adjusted mids. Also had issues with lag on pc. Couldn’t figure out what the issue was. Went back to my old and trusty traktor controller (and no lag either come to that)!
What's up Phil. A friend of mine is sellling a brand new Vestax VCI-400, and it is in pristine condition. Do you think its still a good buy? Keep up the good work!
If you can successfully map it to the software you want to use it with, yes - it is a beautiful unit. But it is totally not supported officially by anyone any more so you are on your own there.
Chuffing hell missed the live shoe and wanted to ask........Is it possible to map 'sampler' to the pioneer RX3, having come from the ddj800 which had it, I'm well miffed off that this unit has binned off this feature. I used the sampler for all my radio jingles and its a real faff without it. TIA ✌️
No unless you're using the RX3 as a controller, ie with your laptop attached. You could make an eight-sample MP3 and load that with a cue point at the start of each sample, as a workaround.
Audacity converts the MP3 to WAV before doing any work on it, if you save it our again as an MP3, it concerts it back. So yes, tiny losses of quality in both directions.
So unless you have the original file each modification will always produce a loss and as a company do they say what the fragment of deterioration? Would it be noticeable on large club system?
Why would you use a 'virtual cable', when Audacity can also record anything played/streamed on your laptop/pc? Thanks for the tips though, I might try the stems-app. :)
Came here to say the same thing. At least for me on Windows it works without any other software by using Audacity with Windows WASAPI + selecting the Speaker or Headphone, for example: "Speaker (sound card name here) (loopback)".

that UVR is a beautiful program, just made some vocals and its mind blowing.
It is!

Agreed, it is a must-have app.
Paid for loopback a long time ago... Advantage is you can route iTunes or Spotify output to the CUE on your DJ controller :-)
Nice idea! May have to play with that and teach it to our students 😀
You guys are the best! Always with the useful info!

Thanks! Super helpful. Soundflower used to be able to record stuff from the computer. Will use these new ones.
These do the same thing

As far as I know there is no way of automating that in Audacity, though you'd guess AI will have a solution soon (probably does already, somewhere!).

Virtual DJ?
would that be any version of VDJ?@@digitaldjtips
Audacity can also capture directly from the audio output. I use it to record.
It's not always true, but if in your set-up it can, that's great (or prove me wrong...)
@@digitaldjtips on the new laptop, the quality was not there. Used the virtual cable instead. Thanks.
I use Sound Forge for more then 20 years.Audacity is also fine too
Yes, SoundForge does the job too!

Does the mp3 quality changes each time you make changes to the file for audacity?
