This may be classed more as a 'remix' than a 'cover' as I'm not exactly playing the entire piece note for note. I'm just sitting on the groove, getting a feel for the song and embellishing where appropriate whilst chopping out a bit and having some fun. This was also a last minute decision for me to film and record properly for RUclips after getting addicted to this play through.
'Happy' has a great up tempo groove that for me got more fun to play the more I jammed it out. There are a couple of sections in this song that I wanted to have the drums flare a bit more to add contrast and dynamics to the piece overall. The first section is at 1:40 where the tom beat that I'm playing (although nowhere near the original) was literally what came out on my first run, (which to some may be a little busy), but stuck and felt right to me. The second section at 2:55 I treated as a 'chop out' sort of drum solo section where I kept it fresh and on the spot. This was the 3rd and last take I did and each play through was different from the last. Although there were fills and other things I preferred from the first 2 takes, this play through as a whole felt better (and had less mistakes haha)
I know I've been heading in a different direction with my RUclips covers lately (away from the heavier material) but right now I'm honestly having a lot more fun and getting way more excited with this type of drumming. I don't know what will be next but I just want to keep it fresh and fun this year! Hope you're also enjoying it all! Thanks for watching!

PS: coop3r is a technically and dynamically poor drummer. Glad people dig his stuff, but his timing, movement and feel all suck
This might be the only drum cover video on RUclips that is executed neatly with dynamics. In contrast with other drum covers on RUclips with just fast-paced single stroke roll, which requires no skill but rather just endurance.
I heard this before i heard the actual song and i wish this was how the actual song was. this is so much better
this is good because drummers view it as good. a non-musician would view this as busy and not be able to focus on the vocals as much. its fantastic, but a non-musician wouldn't appreciate it like we do

I'm a drummer and I would find this way to busy if it were the actual recording. I do like his take on it though as just something fun to play around with.

The Police had a fantastic drummer (Copeland) who came up with intricate drum parts, but that didn't hold them back too much.
That fill into the 2nd verse was sweet. Whole thing was lovely.

DrummerGAS I know, but since I am a drummer I like this kinda of stuff and would prefer it. I also know that this is different because I also have recorded songs with simple rhythm but played something different in live shows so it’s worth listening to, not just the same as the recording.

This is such great and inspiring drumming. This is when the drums go from being a rhythmic and percussive presence to being a musical instrument where the pulse flows through the drummer and pours out over the kit. Awesome drumming...and I mean ORSUM!
