A lot of times, if the score is 0 - 0, I might throw one dart at an opponent's highest open number then move on to either point on mine or try to open another. A few guys I play with will throw at least one at bull once 17 has 3 marks. Idea being that a double bull scores more than a triple 16.
Cricket’s a fun game to play in a bar with friends. We play it in steel tip league. I tend to agree with a comment Worldwide Darts made in one of his videos. He said something to the effect that we don’t have any serious competitors representing the USA on the world stage because we spend so much time playing cricket in this country. Meanwhile a tiny country like the Netherlands is dominating in the PDC!!
True we play more cricket then the rest of the world well except Asia. My take on why we don't have any good 501 players is we don't look at darts as a real sport in the US all it would take is one player dedicating him or her self to the game and really going after it and it would blow up here. Like Vollyeball or cycling did when we had an American/Americans reach the top. The other reason I don't think we see this is the math, in Cricket you don't have to do math and I see players in the US struggle with the quick calculations. But we can hope that someday it will be.

Good video. One suggestion is rather than referring to needing 3 "points" to open the number, these are more commonly called 'marks'. This avoids the confusion with actual scoring 'points'. So you need three marks to open (or close) a number. Any additional marks on that number scores points, until the opponent hits enough marks to close the number.
Nice video. Although I wouldn't typically recommend trying to close an opponents number right away instead of trying to open up another number and catch up in points. Once caught up then I would start closing opponent numbers. Like you mentioned in the beginning of the video, you typically don't want to be a "follower."
Interesting Vid! I'm a typical darting American I suppose cause all I ever really played WAS cricket. Since darts have taken over my life(Apr '16) of course I've played hours of 01. I tend to disagree with the rhetoric of cricket being the cause for lack of prominent American dart players. If that were the case wouldnt you think we (americans) would destroy treble 20??? My experience with other darters here in the plains states or midwest (Kansas) is they just dont care as much as the Europeans, dont want to make time to play or have other commitments (very important I'm sure lol) Personally it's very frustrating as I struggle to find 3 other players available, my saving grace is a tiny soft tip league (I prefer steel)in a local watering hole where we average 14-20 players. I've also been black balled in a sense in my hometown as nobody will play against me because I throw darts every day and they say I'm too good lol these ppl I have never even played against mind you! I'm done now thx for listening and all I can say is PRIORITIES!!!! Keep up the good work Matt your channel brings me an immense amount of happiness. Keep those elbows up and those darts true! Together we can make America DART again!
@@jasoncarter9876 very true, well said! I've often wondered if the lack of steel tip players in america has any effect? Keep up the good work! Let's get pe to the oche and aim em high let em fly!
Why would American destroy the treble 20? Think about that for a second. In the game of cricket we only throw at the 20 for a round or 2. Compared to UK players who use the 20 for 66% of the game (according to Ochepedia on Twitter). In cricket you are continually going for cover shots on other numbers. Also the use of the doubles in cricket is almost non existent. I personally believe it's a fun game but the game itself doesn't allow a player to reach their full potential. I've written several very long articles as to why cricket is holding us back. Worth a look but I don't think I can post links here.
