This is an amazing video that helped me realize the importance and simplicity of OPK use! I got pregnant the 1st cycle I tried and found that my ovulation comes earlier than "normally". Unfortunately, I lost my pregnancy and ttc again and found that Premom app (that never works on my phone) channel advises to keep checking ovulation because there are surges and a peak so it's important to find the real peak, as they say. I'm confused as Dr. Crawford recommends to stop testing after the 1st surge but now I wonder what if it's a surge but not a peak?

I had a miscarriage on April 1st had a D&C and I got my period on on may 7th. Started tracking my ovulation on day 10th of my cycle. My period app predicted that I would ovulate on day 15th of my cycle. I had sex on day 12th and 13th of my cycle and sure enough i measured my temperature and it went up then I took a ovulation test and I had a positive LH surge on day 14th just like the app said. I’ve never had such and accurate prediction before. My husband and I are hoping for our rainbow baby

I’m curious how you define irregular periods? You mention that it is important to see the doctor if you have irregular periods, but don’t explain what exactly that means. My understanding is that there are some natural variances in the cycle based on stress levels, etc. like that length of cycle could be different...?

    • @brissalluvia1992
      @brissalluvia1992 3 года назад

The length of the menstrual cycle varies from woman to woman, but the average is to have periods every 28 days. Regular cycles that are longer or shorter than this, from 21 to 40 days, are normal.

Thank you for this video and advocating to talk to your doctor about irregular periods. I’m going through fertility treatments right now due to PCOS. My period has been irregular forever and any time I brought it up to my OB/GYN she said it’s fine, don’t worry some people have irregular periods. I always was frustrated with this answer because all of my friends periods were regular. Whenever I asked if it would effect me having kids I was told “we will talk about that when your ready to have a family” which was again, frustrating. Well fast forward to now, we’ve been trying for a year now with no luck. I am so thankful for our RE for not only a diagnosis of PCOS but answers to the questions I have been asking for years!

Thanks for this video. I’ve been trying to get pregnant for the past couple of months and with no luck so far I’ve decided to try using an OPK. My husband said I’m stressing (which I’m not) I’m just trying to use tools to hopefully make this more successful. I’ve seen and read different things, that it’s ok to use the first urine, that’s it’s not ok, to test around 10 in the morning and also test around 8 at night. So I’ve been testing twice a day. But I’ll use your advice and just do once. It makes me feel better hearing the information come from someone knowledgeable. I died laughing when you chucked the directions 😂

And I’m tracking with my app and predicted ovulation is today (Wednesday) but according to you ovulation might happen on Saturday with my 28 day cycle. That’s good to hear and I’m going to continue to test daily. I was starting to get a bit sad thinking it was me but really the app could’ve been wrong. Hopefully it works out this month but if not I feel better tracking my ovulation instead of JUST trusting the app to predict it

Hi Natalie, thanks so much for your videos! They are so useful. I’ve bought the digital test and it has the three options; No, High & Peak. For me, a 23-26 day cycle (varies). I had a “No” On day 10 and then a “Peak” on day 11. I’ve been trying for 5 months but using the strip tests and found them hard to read. Is it a concern I had no “High” days? So this would mean for this cycle I ovulate on day 12, correct? As the test notifies you the day before ovulation (or thereabouts?). I also had a miscarriage 3 months ago which I think caused my cycle to be irregular for a few months. Would having a miscarriage naturally/spontaneously change your cycle length or make things harder? I have a healthy baby girl who is 21 months old so I know I can carry to term. Thanks :).

I would disagree about OPKs being useless with irregular cycles. They're a big part of what helps me keep my sanity in all this. But it does require a bit more effort not to waste tests (although I buy the cheap strips). I generally start later than the average person, and only if I feel like ovulation is coming, mostly when I see fertile cervical mucus, and stop as soon as I get a positive, so I generally end up only needing 4-8 strips.
You are right though that irregular cycles are indicative of a problem, I do have PCOS, and now receiving treatment, but there are cycles sometimes that I have to go back to trying at home unmedicated, and I prefer to go back to OPKs then.

    • @NatalieCrawfordMD

I think some women with PCOS have an easier time than others, but I do hate to see women waiting on an evaluation and trying to use OPKs getting frustrated. Certainly IF* they can work for your particular situation - yay!

Hello Dr. Natalie. I just came across your Channel and I am learning so much already. Thank you. My cycle length is irregular. Most times it's 28, sometimes 27, 30, 32 etc. I have given birth before and now I am trying again to get pregnant after 6 years but it's not happening. I felt I was so close to getting pregnant this last cycle but still didn't happen. Because during the 2-weeks wait, I was having some symptoms showing that pregnancy was on the way. But I was disappointed when I saw my period, though it came very late.

Hello! Thank you for your channel! I’ve subscribed and it’s so very helpful! I do have a question, learning so much about fertility is amazing, and we have been TTC for 3 months. The last two months I’ve been tracking with LH. I’m curious why the clear blue OPK gave me a positive (solid smiley) on a Saturday, EWCM too, but the easy@home was still “low” on that Saturday, then that following Wednesday (4 days later) the easy@home was “lh high” and I wasn’t able to test with the clear blue due to it “locking me out” because it was too close in time from the initial pos reading on Saturday.
I just find this situation odd. None the less, we baby danced daily during all of this.

Now that I’ve lost weight my cycles have been shortening. My last cycle was 38 days, this cycle looks like it will also be around 37 days. I know I just need to be patient. I’m still young but inpatient.

I know you say to stop after the first positive LH surge... but if I keep checking every 12 hours, the line will get darker over the next day and peak before it starts to decline. So is the first positive test my peak, or is the peak the darker line a day or so later? I use strips that come with an app that measures the intensity of the pigmentation of the line to try to give a more accurate reading.

I use the digital clearblue ovulation tests you described with the blank smile face, flashing smile face (high) and stagnet smile face (peak). Is there a good chance of conception when trying on a high day and then again on a peak day? Or just on both peak days?

Hi!! Would you consider 28-32 day cycle regular or irregular??

I got a question 🥺🥺 I have been taking the test since Tuesday morning because my ovulation days is supposed to be tomorrow, I have been doing it every morning first thing I do when I wake up. And so far I just got low fertility screen, can it be wrong because I’m taking the tests to early in the morning 🫠🫠?? Thank you so making this video, that was so helpful 💖💖

How much water can you drink in the morning? And can you urinate before taking the test? The digital instructions say to not pee for 4 hours before testing.

Is there a difference in the reliability of the qualitative tests vs a quantitative test? Premom infers that there quantitative test is more accurate than their qualitative for those with PCOS. I'm frustrated because my period has always been irregular and I'm told that a consistently irregular period, is a pattern of regularity? My period is never less than 49 days and in my 20s, I could go 6 months with no period. I am now 38 and consistently implying to my doctors that I may have PCOS only to be told it's my weight. So I have done all this work to lose weight only to find I'm still having the same issues! I'm just frustrated because I have known that my irregular periods would, in fact, impair my ability to conceive. Now I'm in love and can't give a child to the man I love.

Hi Natalie, quiet confused on how all these works. I delivered in March 2022, since I have not seen my MP, and I'm worried because I can't keep track of my ovulation.
I'm breast feeding, I don't know how likely it is for me to get pregnant.

Hi doctor! Question….I got diagnosed with PCOS but thankfully my cycles are regular but the doctor has me on metformin anyways. I got a positive ovulation test yesterday on day 15 and my cycles are 30 days. Is it normal that by day 16 the ovulation test is negative? I got two negatives this morning when I tested.
Thank you for all the great info!

Hi Dr. Crawford! Thank you for all the useful information you give us!
One question regarding irregular periods: is it considered if the cycles vary by any number of days? Or is there a minimum variation that makes you think they are irregular? E.g. mine comes every month between 34 and 36 days. Is this considered irregular?
    Thanks a lot in advance!
P.S. I'd be very interested in knowing how to spot ovulation based on the cervical mucus and (separately) based on the basal body temperature. Would be great if you could do videos on these topics! Thank you!

    Hi Dr.
My typical cycle length is 28 days and I have regular periods. I use clear blue digital ovulation tests and I begin testing around day 12 each month. I get a positive result on either cycle day 15 or 16. Is this normal that I am ovulating later then day 14?

So I’ve been testing for months and it has just occurred to me that you don’t have to hold the test and pay until the whole entire thing is full it doesn’t affect it I’m still getting readings it’s not reading that it’s broken or miss used or whatever but I’m just curious if that affects it

What does it mean if you have never got a surge? I have been testing for a few months now, a few days before im supposed to be ovulating, and have never had a peak or surge. I assume i ovulate as i was pregnant a few months ago, but it was a chemical lost at 5 weeks. What does this mean?

So today my tracker log says ovulation day would likely be today but i took an ovulation test today. Both lines were visible but the test line was lighter than the control line. I assume that means its not high enough and might be by tomorrow? Should I test again tomorrow?

I can't find any doctor to help me properly so I use these opk's (but the cheaper ones but I've used over 200 already)...
Apparently I have pcos but I have never ever seen a positiv opk... (I have tried the 25 ones as well as the 10....) still always negative with the 10 I get a second line... and haven't had any period after stopping hormones one year ago.... (all my doctor did was looking at my uterus and it was just slightly build up and my ovaries had lots of follicles....)
My doctor told me to try myo-inositol but she also told me she can't do anything more as she is not specialized...
And no clinic takes me because I'm single..... the one clinic that would treat me wants me to get regular periods first.... it's frustrating....
Why do I have too little lh... but at the same time have pcos (which apparently makes high lh levels...)???

So my daughter is struggling to get pregnant and I got her the digital prediction test that shows the blank the smile face and the happy for peak. She tested the first day 5 days before she should have ovulated and got the blank the next day she got the smile it's been 6 days and every day it's been the same smile. Is she not getting the LH surge?

  • @loveanimals-0197

After dipping it, where should I keep the strip? Should it be vertical or horizontal? Also, can it be put back into the plastic cover it came with, or should it be left in the open?
    Thanks.

Dr. Crawford.. I had my first positive ever LH test Friday morning. I continued to test even though I probably shouldnt have. Anyway I am now testing out my trigger. I'm guessing I would have ovulated 24 -36 hrs after my first positive opk, correct?

Is it true that not everyone ovulate the day after their LH surge? If so, is it risky to use LH tests to plan the transfer date in a natural cycle FET?
