Ok David... INTERVENTION time here finally... Sit on the couch and relax, you are in GOOD and this IS a safe place to come out into the open and finally admit PJ has gotten you! Guys.. Do we think that David is now PLAYING the "Battle of Stubbornness"? lol. We CAN out last him! lol
I THINK people OFTEN forget OR ignore that Jeff and Stone started in Green River, more punk than Grunge/Alt music, though Green River is often cited as one of the leaders of the grunge movement, Green River and Nirvana were more on the punk side than not. So NO shock PJ pulls off punk sounds WELL!
Actually, i'm pretty sure that punk influence is Ed all the way and some of Jeff's. Ed is huge Ramones fan and he was always on the punk side.Even when Stone wrote that basic riffs for Spin the black circle, Ed asked if he could play with it a bit, he speed it up, turn some stuff around, wrote lyrics and make it in to a great punk song.Punk was never Stone's thing, and Stone said it himself couple of times that when ever you hear a punk vibe on some their songs, that's Ed's doing all the way. One more thing, Green river was never really punk, they were actually pioneers of grunge. The first one. They broke up after a while and after some twist and turns the members of that band created great Mudhoney and the mighty and belived Pearl Jam.
"My Father's Son" from Lighting Bolt is one of my favorite PJ tracks. I think it sounds like a song that could have been written in between Vitalogy and No Code. And Jeff Ament's bass playing really shines on the track.
I think Lightening Bolt is one of the best albums they did since Binaural, and I am NOT so hot on Binaural myself, their weakest album imo. LB is one of my favs by them I will say. :)
I was waiting for you to eventually react to this one, I'd figured you'd be all about it. Got a Dead Kennedys vibe to it. Love the double time by Matt.
I still haven’t heard your review yet of In My tree (Have no idea what version you listened to) But In my tree does for me what this track does for you. And although these later albums are often ignored (At least my my PJ acquaintances), I was trying to make the case that this track was underrated and would love to see them start a show with it. Glad you enjoy it! Sad you couldn’t get into In My Tree, as it’s probably in my top 15 tracks of their songs, but always appreciate your reviews as a great balance of mind, heart, and instincts.
"I caught myself believin' That I needed God And if it's hard for some We sure could use it now" LOVE THIS SONG !!! Dave there are MANY songs in the PJ catalogue that have the punk vibe!!!! Great review, cant wait until you hear comatose!!!! As a Chef, Dave , Eggplant/ zucchini REALLY ? LMFAO
This was the song I discovered Eddie is actually an atheist, I never knew that before I did some research after this album came out. I Am Mine is another one like this lyrically.
Amazing review for an amazing song. As everyone has mentioned, PJ has a lot of punk roots so this is really not a huge surprise. It's just another welcome change up from a band that continues to do what makes them happy.
I THINK David is NOW messing with us bro! I call for an intervention OR electro shock treatment! After this song we CANNOT accept his comments of "Not a fan yet, I appreciate them though" lol... I CALL BS on that now, I SAY in the closest OR now messing with us all! lol
@@dijionrose5296 We're here to support him while he adjusts to being in the open about his feelings of being a Pearl Jam fan. It's ok David, we have your back brother, come on out of that closet, it's all okay!
Hi, I really like your reactions! I really like Pearl Jam and it's true that this song sounds PunK. I also love PunK. maybe you know the bands: Black Flag, Gorilla biscuits, Minor threat, Vicious, Adolescents, Bad Brains, Subhumans ?? Etc and many others. I'm also a big fan of Alice in Chains, the voice of Layne Staley,RIP, is the best in my eyes. I miss him so much.anyway i subscribed btw & watch your previous videos :) See Ya.
9.0..... Yeah David NO more saying you just appreciate the band, come out of your inner denial, Pearl Jam HAS won you over, Yup I feel good with that comment and here's why ;) lol. NEVER a bad or low score, several times extremely impressed with them, and you are now seeing their punk side outside their Alt known songs lol. Yup I feel good with that. ;) *Runs from the oinks* lol
I wanted this album to be the one you reacted to on Patreon, but nooo! Everyone wanted you to listen to an album I knew you wouldn’t appreciate as much as most pj fans
I think it's time to continue with 'comatose' right from the avocado album. Particularly this version where Mike its really on fire. ruclips.net/video/Dmrm8rEoapw/видео.html I can see another 9.x already 😁

One thing that makes PJ so good is their diversity of sounds and melodies.

Could have been the best matt Cameron drumming intro in Pearl Jam catalog... This one of the stand out track in the amazing lightning bolt album.
Grievance!
Very underrated song. So many Pearl Jam "fans" bashed this album. I mean it did well. But it should have been given more of a chance
I am not surprised that you enjoyed this one. Lots of people trashed the Lightning Bolt album. I was not one of those people.
Took me a few times listening through but I’ve learned to love it too
Right.. and I like the songs that people normally don't like from the records (I.e. let the records play). Has that garage sound

This is the ramones influence that Eddie’s always adored

Mike said he was channelling the Dead Kennedys when writing the riff
David, what about Spin The Black Circle and Lukin that you've reviewed before? You said those were both punk as well...
Solid review 🤙... loved the "yeah" after the guitar solo lol. Very underrated album.

@@THEDavidHeretic That's cool !
There's a music video also. And there's an alternate version which is raw and doesn't have the melody but still good
One of the guitarist said that he created the riff with the intention to sound like a dead kennedys' riff (sort of like California Uber Alias).
Love it!!! Thank you David.
