Why do the one side soldier exactly look like the other side soldier? Same Uniform. How could they keep them apart? Is it normal that at any war century rivals each other wear the same Uniform style, just another color?
No, and it's very simple, soldiers of the same group would kill each other, they all had different uniforms, and there was never a case of confusion in a war, it's simple because nobody get's an advantage from doing this
The tan color suited that general area if you wanted to blend in and be camouflaged. There were detail differences enough (such as the hats and probably other small details) that you could still tell who was on what side.

This battle scene is goofy and unrealistic, but I must admit it is still very entertaining, and it definitely has the adventurous spirit of the "Indiana Jones" franchise. Also, the relatively period accurate uniforms and weapons/ equipment are a nice touch.
Kinda reminds me of the scene in first Mummy movie where the French Foreign Legion is barricaded again Tuareg like horsemen. The weaponry resembles the bolt action Mauser. Very deadly rifle with a nasty knockdown bullet.

They've taken some care with the uniforms but otherwise this is complete fantasy. Historically the Belgians never deployed in eastern Africa or even in any significant force against German West African possessions (which were some distance south of Belgian colonial Africa) as they were too busy fighting for their lives after their country was largely overrun by the Germans in 1914! The German's famous colonial troops the Askaris operated in the east (mostly modern day Tanzania) in fact there's a statue to them in Dar es Salaam. Lettow von Vorbek the German commander of these troops was never defeated despite being hugely outnumbered, only finally surrendered to the British in 1919, months after the war ended in Europe. Very different from the story suggested by this Young Indy episode. Nicely done though - at least Hollywood paid some attention to historical detail in the film's appearance. Dunno who their military adviser was but the idea that you'd reserve your MG fire until you could see the whites of their eyes is complete BS! The one machine gun (minus the jam of course) would have cut down the entire company before they covered even half that open ground. Besides which, how you can run flat out firing your weapon and still hit so many men in cover is also somewhat miraculous! But that's Hollywood for you - wouldn't want any of that get in the way of a good story right? After all - it is young Indiana Jones!

Controlled "Burst Fire" really wasn't invented until demands for MGs to be made lighter & more portable so they they could accompany infantry sections in direct assaults, this necessitated the deletion of the water jacket, water, introduction of burst fire & removable barrels for quick change out since barrels will overheat at between 200 & 300 rounds, something not really accomplished until the introduction of the German MG-34, all preceding Squad/Section MGs were Magazine fed as limited Magazine capacity & frequent Magazine changes aided in keeping the volume of fire down & gave the weapon a break between firing keeping it somewhat "cooler".

I read the book "La Marche Maudite" (The Cursed March) in French about this very episode and the subsequent march across Congo and Gabon to recover the guns. A very enjoyable, historical and educational read.
I am a Brit yet I have always thought that Lettow Von Vorbeck was one of the most amazing leaders in the entirety of WWI. He managed to do more with less than anyone else before or after. His exploits in East Africa read like something out of a fictional novel and yet his activities were all to real. Outgunned and outnumbered with almost no support he outfoxed the British and South Africans on numerous occasions and kept his force in being right up to the end of the war. A truly resourceful and inspirational leader. Hollywood should make a film about his exploits (but they won't because by their rules Germans in wartime have to be the 'baddies').
Lettow Vorbeck was associated with the right wing in post war German politics. He may have been an anti semite (as many were at that time). This does not condone it but it also does not diminish his outstanding performance during WWI. Using a person's political leanings to blacken their achievements is a well known and much used leftist tactic to discredit anyone who does not follow their beliefs. You are correct, however, about Hollywood's attitude to war, nationality and many other things. All so as to not offend or upset America's self image.

I read the book "La Marche Maudite" (The Cursed March) in French about this very episode and the subsequent march across Congo and Gabon to recover the guns.

I am a Brit yet I have always thought that Lettow Von Vorbeck was one of the most amazing leaders in the entirety of WWI. He managed to do more with less than anyone else before or after. His exploits in East Africa read like something out of a fictional novel and yet his activities were all to real. Outgunned and outnumbered with almost no support he outfoxed the British and South Africans on numerous occasions and kept his force in being right up to the end of the war. A truly resourceful and inspirational leader. Hollywood should make a film about his exploits (but they won't because by their rules Germans in wartime have to be the 'baddies').

Lettow Vorbeck was associated with the right wing in post war German politics. He may have been an anti semite (as many were at that time). This does not condone it but it also does not diminish his outstanding performance during WWI. Using a person's political leanings to blacken their achievements is a well known and much used leftist tactic to discredit anyone who does not follow their beliefs. You are correct, however, about Hollywood's attitude to war, nationality and many other things. All so as to not offend or upset America's self image.
