Hello David, Been thinking of doing this myself just lately. Having to walk away from work last year with stress (running your own business is very hard these days) I have decided to get out there and walk the Thames & London to Birmingham on the grand union. Thank you for the inspiration. All the best
I did the same walk in 6 days in July 2021 (all on my channel) and was wildcamping where I could. I averaged 25-30 miles each day. Watching your video brought back memories of "I remember that place, I remember that place". I even remember a lot of the bridges you passed. Congrats on making it through Birmingham without getting attacked.
Good work! I did this walk a few years ago from Birmingham to London over 7 days. If I close my eyes I can still feel the shin splints from pounding the tow path!!
Sorry you ended up in Birmingham lol, I've been trying to get out of it for 51 years 😅. Great video, though I was surprised at how short it was considering you did very nearly 140 miles. I've subbed and I'll definitely check out more of your vids, was great to see you on bushman and Blues vid too, very entertaining 😀
Absolutely loved this! I live in Birmingham, and found out about this hike recently. Seeing the sense of joy and accomplishment this gave you really motivates me to do the same! Loved the Tolkien quote, “not all those who wander are lost” . it really encapsulated your journey well. Great job on this video - keep it up
Cycled this in 2020 (Birmingham - Paddington Basin) in 2 days, an incredibly hard but beautiful and rewarding experience. Hoping to do it again this year! Great vid.
I just had a look at "My London" and read the article about your journey and couriously clicked the link to this video. Your story, the pictures, the editing is absolutely inspiring in many levels. Now I am excited to explore more of your videos. Thank you for bringing joy to an everage beginning of a day!
Hi David For some years, I have spent a few weeks in the area around Warwick, Kenilworth and Lemmington. I really enjoy hiking in the area, and especially along the Grand Union Canal. I have been thinking about this year, going for a longer walk along the canal. Your video of your hike from London to Birmingham was very inspiring… Thank you for sharing your experiences… 👍👍
Thanks ManvsBees!!! This video did go really well! I'm nearly halfway through 3K now, crazy!!! Thanks for the support pal I really appreciate it! More adventure vids out very soon!😁
Oh man, I live in Uxbridge and you’ve made me so tempted to do the walk from Uxbridge onwards… might try and organise it in the next few months. Great vid, just subbed
Brilliant video. I walked the GUC from Brentford to Birmingham with my husband in 1998 for the Jubilee 2000 break the chains of debt event. You captured the essence of the walk. We took 10 days. We are now CRT volunteer towpath rangers and walk Slough to Cowley and Norwood Top Lock regularly
Here from Birmingham lives story. Mate well done 👍🏼 so inspiring. It’s great to get out and walk, I suffer with mental health and walking and being out in nature has always helped me. Really cheered me up today seeing this. Keep it up buddy will definitely be watching all your walks, really good content keep it up my mon 👌🏼👍🏼
Great to watch. My husband has his routes in Birmingham and really enjoyed the journey you took. Seeing Birmigham a different view,, Great stuff, well done. Thelma and Paul.
Super video David, really well put together. 👍 My Dad and cousin walked from Leicester to London and then west along the Thames to my Dads sisters who lives on the banks of the Thames. This was 4 years ago when my Dad was 82, they stoppedin B and Bs too. I'll send him a link to yoir great film.🍺👍
Love it. You are a great story teller. I feel like I’m walking with you on every video. I hope you get lots of good stuff coming to you. I can tell you’re a decent fella.
Thank you so much for doing this! We live in Brentford and we’ve been walking by the canal during the first lock down. We loved it and when we first found out we could walk all the way to Birmingham, I’ve made it my mission to do the walk ourselves. We might have to ask for tips:)
Brilliant, love this. I've been seriously looking at doing something similar myself and this has really given me some inspiration. I think canal towpaths are often unfairly overlooked within the hiking community but I love walking them. 🤙
Great video again David We are very lucky to live near the Grand Union and use it regularly. See you traded up from you trainers to boots for this one.
I go to Warwick uni and I went for a gravel ride on the Grand Union Canal. Fell over and nearly went in! Luckily no one saw, but I was bruised as hell. Great video by the way!
The Day 6 image of all the locks stacked was lovely. And I did think it might be scary in parts (you say at end it was) and it's great to see what you did and I'd love to but am think as a brown woman alone it might be a different experience? But welcome what you found scary especially...if not what I presume! The Grand Union in Southall was nearby when growing up. Little Venice where you started was probably bit further in.
Take it slow! Go back and watch my first few videos and you’ll see how far I’ve come in terms of onscreen confidence! I never used to speak in these videos!! Everyone’s got to start somewhere - just get stuck in making the things you want to!!

Amazing! Haha yes I wish I could make it longer but I don't have the time to film/edit a feature film! hahaha, no I'm glad you enjoyed it! More adventure vids out very soon!😁
I've always loved using canal routes, as they can take you to most of the main parts of the country. Then you can take the country roads to get to more specific locations. Great video mate. 👌
Great video of a beautiful route along the Grand Union. I remember it well when I used to live close to Berkhamsted. Thank you for taking us along on the journey.
@@DavidPMcEntee it’s so obvious you enjoyed the walk! I love hiking here in the USA where you can find some of the most amazing adventures..I’m wondering what’s the next hike?!
This is awesome! I lived in England for a few years and used to walk tons. I walked most of the River Wey and quite extensively around Surrey, Hampshire and a fair bit of London. There is pretty much an unlimited amount amazing places to walk all over the UK. The trains are great there as well for either getting you to where you want to walk or getting you home after a long walk. Cheers to David for making this video and bringing back some great memories!
David ! I was sad when the video ended 🙃🤗🤗🥰 This is the best one ever from you. Amazing amazing and amazing, truly inspiring, beautifully presented and spoken. Well done and wishing you more. Enjoy your Xmas break and relax
Thank you Rama!! There will be lots more soon don't worry! :) Thanks for your support I really appreciate it! I'm really trying to get better at the presenting skills, so its so nice to see it have an impact on people! Merry Xmas!! :)
Love this on so many levels. The Grand Union is awesome, especially from the air (I fly a drone too) and you even managed to catch my boat as you went past (at 1:19)
Absolutely loved this. I live in Leighton buzzard and often walk this canal . Always wondered how far I could go and back in a day . Great content have now subscribed
Awesome video mate. Really enjoyed that like how you show lots of scenery in your videos and have interesting commentary as well. Well done, great achievement and adventure.
Absolutely fantastic Video! Congratulations on completing your hike from LDN -> BHAM. You absolutely smashed it and it was so lovely to see all the beautiful nature throughout your walk. Thank you for sharing :)
I’ve done Aylesbury to the Paddington basin in 3 days last September. Then I did two days from Marsworth to Blisworth in April. That was meant to end at Braunston but I picked up an injury. Will go from Blisworth up to Birmingham September 2023 if things go to plan. First I’ve the Ridgeway to see in April 2023. Love your vid’s buddy. Nothing like just two legs and a backpack!!
David, I absolutely loved this! Really inspiring! Everything about it was amazing....the scenery, your narration, the music (I used Shazam on every one 😁). I was transfixed the whole way through. Thank you and well done.👍👍👍
Thank you Julie!! I'm glad you did, it was such an amazing adventure I'm glad I could share it with you! I hope you subscribed there will be more adventure vids out very soon!😁
Some great shots here, well done for walking the whole canal. I would love to do it too but mostly only see the local bits, Stockton, Long Itchington, Bascote and often Hatton. Perhaps one day I’ll do it when the children are older! Well done on achieving your goal, and for reaching 3k+ subscribers.
Thanks Lauren!! Yes take it one day at a time, theres no need to do it all in one go like me! Thanks for checking out the video and for commenting - more adventure vids out very soon!😁
I loved this! I used to live next to little Venice, my in laws still live in that area. I currently live in Milton Keynes and the grand Union canal is right next to me. I genuinely want to to do this 1 day you’ve inspired me!
Amazing!! That is such a nice area, its 100% worth a look if you've got a base along the GUC! It'll save you one day of BnB fees! More adventure vids out very soon!😁 Thanks for your support :)
Brilliant! I’ve done sections from Uxbridge to Wolverton…… I was told that the quickest canal journey from Birmingham to London was around 4.5 days. Drop the load off and return..! Hard graft!! Cow Roast was derived from Cow Rest and was apparently the usual spot to rest when driving livestock from London markets in one day..! Great video, enjoy watching them…
Awesome video David. I'm lucky that I live quite near to the canal at Hanwell. I've done from three bridges up to Uxbridge, then Rickmansworth to Berkhampstead. I'll have to do it again sometime.
Lovely little film and well jel of your walk, looks like you lucked into some perfect autumn weather! We live close to the Grand Union (near Tring) and I've often pondered similar adventure - thanks for the further inspiration! Might be too flat for some hiking tastes, I love all the post-industrial history of canals though, maybe we'll even need them again for commerce one day when electric barge engines go mainstream?!
wicked stuff, subscribed. i've been from London to Braunston in a couple of trips, had to follow the milestones! as you say very pleasant walk with lots of history, to discover. i'm looking forward to finishing the trip to Birmingham in the spring. maybe also do the Leicester Arm. then on to Wales. cheers!
Thank you Jimmy!!! I'm glad you liked it pal, I'm annoyed I lost my Braunston footage, I'll make sure I get it in if I ever try this route again! Thanks for the support! More adventure vids out very soon!😁
This video was awesome man, I just found your video because this came up on my suggested, I'm sure you will receive your subscribers you wished for ;) Have a lovely x mas & new year.
You walked past my house at great Linford I live 2mins from the canal lived there all my life remember playing football with the kids off the coal barges when they moored up for the night outside the wharf pub at Linford which is now a house
David we live near the Blisworth tunnel and are thinking of doing this walk but from London to the Tunnel only! Not sure of the distance but guessing 60+ miles!
Well what a lovely video to watch over breakfast. Thanks for the recommendation RUclips. Great video chap, be nice if it were longer to be honest, but lovely tone and feel. Music not too much and nice editing. New subscriber 👍🏻😉
Hi David, I absolutely love this video and see so much of my own mind talking in it as well. I'm a river/canal path enthusiast too, although you might say I cheat as I cycle rather than walk! Completed the Thames Path to the source 6 months ago which I'd thoroughly recommend if you've not done that yet, as well as the Kennet & Avon canal, and River Wey. But this video really inspires me to do the Grand Union as well one day!
Thanks Maxim!!! I'm so glad you enjoyed it, it was such fun to make! I love the Canal, its so beautiful and peaceful - a great place to escape to! More adventure vids out very soon!😁 Yes the Thames is on my hit list!!
Wow!! 👏 Well done! I know how beautiful the GU can be - I live by the section you did from Ricky-Watford and you wouldn't know you're within the M25 some days - it's just magical. In fact it looks like you took a rest and drink stop sitting at Common Moor Lock, just by us. But, overall, what an inspiration that you've hiked the entire length (minus the tunnel 👀 😄) and you certainly picked some lovely bright days to show it at its best!!
Maybe because I grew up loving English and Tolkien books but these beautiful landscapes remind me of Middle Earth and Tolkien's world in general. The UK is beautiful, I wish to visit it again one day.
Yes! They do feel very Tolkien-ie don't they! I hope you get a chance to get back here one day too, maybe use one of my videos as a guide! haha :) Thanks for your support - More adventure vids out very soon!😁
Just came here from thy Birmingham Live news site. I was actually planning on doing this from Birmingham to London to raise funds for a charity. I was planning on doing it in 4 days, but that might be a bit of a push based on your wall taking 7 days.
Hello David, well done on your amazing journey it looks absolutely amazing. I actually live close to the the blisworth tunnel, blisworth part of the canal and Stoke Bruerne. I sped lots of time on the cancel during the summer it’s a beautiful place to be. I go shopping by the canal in wolverton and spent years on the canal in Cosgrove village so I know the canal well😊
Wow amazing always Wanted to do this walks and wondered how long it would take and the place’s at hotels and inns along the way was going to Start at Leighton buzzard to Birmingham and beyond to Blackpool thanks for the inspiration and well done 💯❤️

Well, I’m inspired. I’m thinking I could do thirty miles or so over four days. Which section would you recommend? And thanks for the inspiration. Well done!

Thank you Jimmy!!! I'm glad you liked it pal, I'm annoyed I lost my Braunston footage, I'll make sure I get it in if I ever try this route again! Thanks for the support! More adventure vids out very soon!😁
Looks like a really enjoyable walk.

Sounds awesome!! Best of luck
Well what a lovely video to watch over breakfast. Thanks for the recommendation RUclips. Great video chap, be nice if it were longer to be honest, but lovely tone and feel. Music not too much and nice editing. New subscriber 👍🏻😉
Thank you Jo!!! It's so cool that RUclips are starting to push my content further afield! More adventure vids out very soon!😁
Thank you K12!! I really appreciate your message, the GUC is gorgeous!!!!! :)
You’re a marvel! 🏃
❤️❤️❤️
Another great video. Tempted to give this route a go in the kayak
Yes that would be great! Thanks for the continued support mate :)
Hello David, well done on your amazing journey it looks absolutely amazing. I actually live close to the the blisworth tunnel, blisworth part of the canal and Stoke Bruerne. I sped lots of time on the cancel during the summer it’s a beautiful place to be.
I go shopping by the canal in wolverton and spent years on the canal in Cosgrove village so I know the canal well😊
I’m so glad you enjoyed it Shantel!! It’s a beautiful area and deserves to be shown off / promoted!!
Lovely, thanks for posting. I've done sections of it yet would love to do it all but in smaller bits size walks 😁😆😀
Thanks Brenda!! I'll admit its probably more fun doing it across several weekends AND less tiring!! haha 😁
Wow amazing always Wanted to do this walks and wondered how long it would take and the place’s at hotels and inns along the way was going to Start at Leighton buzzard to Birmingham and beyond to Blackpool thanks for the inspiration and well done 💯❤️
There's an annual race: The Grand Union Canal Marathon. They run/walk nonstop from Birmingham to London on the late May Bank Holiday.
Thanks John!! I'll have to look into that!
Fantastic :)
Cheers Stevyn!! :)
Your Trave looks very nice just like you! Great love and respect from a solo mountain hiker from the Lower Chitral District of Pakistan!

Thanks mate!!! :) More adventure vids out very soon!😁
Well, I’m inspired. I’m thinking I could do thirty miles or so over four days. Which section would you recommend? And thanks for the inspiration. Well done!
Great video really well done! No unpowered crafts through the Blisworth tunnel tho.
Any advice for a non walker thinking of walking it?
Do it over several weekends, not all in one go like I did! Its painful if you do it my way! haha, check out my other advice videos on the channel for more of my hiking tips & tricks! More adventure vids out very soon!😁
