  • In this video, I'm working to tidy up my space and I sort through all of my recent pattern paper scraps. I store my scraps by color and I walk though that process and talk about where I put my multi-color pattern papers. If you struggle with where to put the multi color papers, I hope you'll give it a watch and get some ideas.

When u showed your 1st drawer and the pink and green. I would have grabbed that and the pink that was close to it, and the green polka dot and made a kit. Wow i like that one

I should do that more often! I have some great papers in the scrap drawers. But I always want to play with new papers. The struggle is real! 😆

You can't control them, that's for sure! I hate closing the door on her because she wants to be wherever I am. So she'll keep making appearances... 😄

I've done it this way for years. But, it took me a while to figure out what system works best for me. I'm a new subscriber. I love your teaching style!

I put my pattern paper scraps in a portable file organizer with hanging files by color (multi color whatever color stands out to me. But I also have a multi color file.). I go to my scraps first when making a kit for a layout. My Cardstock is all sorted by color. And all pattern paper sorted by theme (what I would use it for.). Has worked for me for years. Now I don’t have as much scrap.

That's great! I always like to say that best systems are the ones that support how we create. Once you figure that out and it works for you, it makes our creating life so much easier.

I like your system. It does make sense, though it's different than what I do. I sort by colour, but when I have a multicolour pattern, I look & see if I have a solid scrap that will go with it & put it together to make a kit. Then I put them together with like a paper clip & store them together. So for example.... you had some great monochromatic greens that would have worked really nicely with some of the flowery papers. I'd pick a green & one of those flowers & put them together. Then when I was doing a layout, I'd choose 2 sheets - a kit starter (multi colour pattern) and a base colour. Then I would see what scraps I had that would work with those. Voila... a page kit.

That's a great way to do it, Tania. It's fun to hear how different everyone's systems are. You never know when you'll hear something that clicks and makes life easier. I don't have a good system for using up my scraps so thank you for sharing! 🙂

I was thinking the same when she was sorting. I was like oh wow, that would make a great kit. The green with those pinks.
Her way may make a lot more kits

Love your organization process. Mine was very similar and I will make a couple of adjustments with the cream colors.

I have the same drawers but only three of them….I separate by color. Thanks for sharing your method of separating paper, it’s so interesting to see how everyone sees their paper and stores it! I see the blue , & it goes with the yellow stripe underneath, haha! I love paper! And watching people who sort paper, haha!

You're welcome! I'm fascinated by how others sort too!! I could talk about paper all day. And no matter how long I scrapbook, it amazes me when someone comes along and shares something that makes me think, whoa, why didn't I ever think of that? I hope I can do that for others too! 😊

I want to add a floral page kit starter category for you. I kept wanting to make page kits out of your scraps. Chances are I’d put together the ones you just used together! lol. Anything that is still 12 inches long stays either with its kit or category. Any small scraps go in a small scraps container to use with punches or silhouette. This was inspiring.

Aw, thank you so much! You're probably right, I love me some florals. And B-sides. Ha. I really should make page kits with the scraps. But then I buy more papers and can't wait to use the shiny new. And round and round it goes. 😆

I am also a card maker. So, if there are scraps that would make a nice layering piece for a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 A2 card, they get cut to that proportion and it goes in my card layering box.

A question for the group: if you use a sheet from a pkg and create scraps, are you more likely to use the scrap by sorting it like this or to put the scrap with the pkg with the remaining unused sheets? I am a card maker.

    • @tammytinedesign
      @tammytinedesign  6 месяцев назад

Oh, that's a great question! My answer is that it depends on how you pull together supplies when you make cards. If you go to your packages and collections and look through papers and pull from there, it makes total sense to keep everything together. Especially if you like that the packages contain coordinated papers that are meant to work together. All of my collections sat on a shelf for years, neglected because that wasn't where I was looking to find supplies. I had to tear up all of my collections and put the papers where I pull papers from. And I've had these scrap drawers for so long that it's become habit for me to pull them from here. But if keeping scraps separate from the remaining paper would mean you never use them, then for sure, keep them together! 😊
